EXCERPT FROM THE LANGUAGE OF REVELATION CLASSICAL ARABIC INSTRUCTION WITH EXERCISES AND QUR'AAN COMMENTARY - SIDDEEQ JIHAD [email protected]

THE 4th FORM OF THE ARABIC VERB

A STATE OF BECOMING, CAUSATION, DYNAMIC, SOMETIMES CAUSED BY ALLAH

EXAMPLES OF THE 4th FORM IN THE GLORIOUS QUR?AAN
    Qad af-la-hahl-mu?me-noon
The Honorable Abdullah Yusuf Ali translates The Glorious Qur?aan, 231 into English as ?The believers must (eventually) win through." A recent revision of his translation of this verse reads, "Successful indeed are the believers." In examining this verse with knowledge of the verb form 4, it is readily understood that is conveying, in terms of an English translation No doubt the believers have already won! The 4th form past tense verb, is on the pattern of . (See 10 forms of the Verb chart) This word, can translate into English as he was caused to be successful. The particle qad, means "no doubt" in this instance. Thus, we derive at the meaning
"No doubt the believers have already won!"

The verses from The Qur?aan following 231, that is 232,3,4,5,8,9 indicate what believers must do to attain success. In Arabic, the 4th form sometimes means past, present and future, at the same time or explained another way, has no tense connotation. Also, the causation of Allah is sometimes indicated in the 4th form patterns. In summing up this verse, in light of the succeeding verses, it seems Allah, Highly Glorified is He, is declaring that the believers who engage themselves as indicated by verses, 232,3,4,5,8,9 are successful now, were successful in the past and are successful in the future.
Muslim is on the 4th form, active participle pattern. Islam is on the 4th form verbal noun pattern. See on the 10 forms chart, page 148.

I have read this detailed, scholarly work of our brother, Siddeeq Jihad. The book is basically written and structured to help anyone who is interested in learning Classical Arabic. The book is highly instructive and well organized.

No doubt, the author Siddeeq Jihad has a great love for Lughatut-tanzeel, the language of revelation. He has dedicated many years studying and teaching Qur?aanic Arabic.

Allah has enabled him to share the knowledge He has blessed him with. Siddeeq has had a long jihad (exertion of diligent effort/time) in learning Qur?aanic Arabic.
The book is extremely useful! It is an excellent guide for beginners and non-beginners and whoever is interested in learning Lughatut-Tanzeel The Language of Revelation. This work equips and empowers its readers with a strong foundation to understand Qur?aanic Arabic. It can indeed lead students, male and female toward Arabic proficiency. I want to bring to our attention an achievement, a publication that has been produced mainly for our community, but is for anybody who wants some help from the material that has been put into this publication.

The book is called The Language of Revelation. (Lughatut-tan-zeel) It is by a brother that I have known to be dedicated and devoted to the study of Qur?aanic Arabic and the teaching of that subject to our students and to grown-ups as well. And that is brother Siddeeq Jihad. I think that most of us know him. Brother Siddeeq Jihad would you please stand and face the audience... I would highly recommend this book for you all, who are studying (grown-ups) but also for our youngsters who are studying separate organized Qur?aanic Studies classes and who are also studying in our school system. Clara Muhammad School System like the one in Atlanta, Washington D.C., Chicago and many other places.
