Prophet Muhammad had a desire to have his focal point of prayer towards Allah in a certain physical direction that he called scared mosque dome of the rock to make his leadership and Koran remembred in this physical reality. We humans exist in a physical reality so our beliefs have to be translated into the physical world which are Just symbolic and have no real effect on beliefs. All stones and energy prostrates to Allah. So even if we pray towards a stone , we are in fact prostrating towards allah with the stone.
