  • Ayat al-Kursi 2:255
    W Waqiah

In my opinion, the stuff hope4 posted is a serious diversion from the actual analysis and application of the text. Wow, life is so ostensibly easy for these guys huh. Just recite 2/255 and all these magical things happen. Ibn Kathir is not much help either. Quoting people saying how great it is without providing a shred of textual evidence about it. I dunno how people say Ibn Kathir is 'tafsir al-quran bil quran'. This is certainly not an example of it.

To me, the best thing that ever happened to my reading of 2/255 was when the imam read it in context. He read from 2/254 all the way to 2/257. To me, that was so enlightening because 2/254 (which is about spending in the way of Allah) connects so well with 2/255's message of having God's quality of 'hayy' and 'qayyom' on your side.

Could you elaborate this some more? It would be interesting to see your understanding of it.

maybe he means hadith are not the prophets words and he is a Quranist like us yay

If it was like that, it would have been nice, but i think he just tries to say, those hadeeth are from shi'aa, so they are not reliable in his opinion.

    Bismillaah,

This is based upon a hadeeth where Aishah is supposed to say that she was 6 when they got married and 9 when they consumated the marriage. There are also sayings about one of the narrators, that he wasn't trustworthy, because of bad memory at old age, and he apparently narrated that hadeeth at old age. So it's just heresay with no proof really.

Here is an interesting article refuting that she was 6/9 years old, i suggest you read it inshaAllaah

It is sad to see muslims calling other muslims names...

4911 O you who believe, let not a people ridicule other people, for they may be better than they. Nor shall any women ridicule other women, for they may be better than they. Nor shall you mock one another, or call each other names. Evil indeed is the reversion to wickedness after attaining faith. And anyone who does not repent, then these are the transgressors.

  • Quranists how do you translate this Verse?
    W Waqiah

Maybe following Muhammeds (so-called) Hadith is like following Muhammeds desires?

Personlly I don't think so. To me, desires is a negative word, so it would be more like following things he said and did, the question is, did he say things out of divine inspiration or not. Or it is other humans beings desires, I mean that they wanted (for various) the prophet to have said, done these things. Or it is his sayings and doings. But of course those hadeeth that goes against the Quran can not be from the prophet, because i highly doubt he would advocate anything that goes against the Quran.

Salaam, why do most muslim's think to follow Muhammed's pbuh examples you have to also follow his Hadith & not just what Allah revealed to him?

    Bismillaah,

I think most of the people here agrees with you, that it is enough to follow what God has revealed to the Prophet, aleyhi salato wasalam.

Why people think they have to follow hadeeth can be because of many reasons. Understanding certain ayaat differently, tradition, culture. Wa Allaaho alem.

Sometimes people are just too eager in finding 'miracles' to show the divinity of our deen. We have the ultimate miracle in the Quran, that should be enough.

What place does Sufism have in Islam? I am very fascinated by it, it is extremely beautiful.

    Bismillaah,

I guess it depends on what you mean with sufism.

If you mean what many people associate with sufism people praying, calling upon the Prophet, or "saints" etc, then it has no place whatsoever in islam.

    5156 Wamaa khalaqtul jinna wal-insa-illaa liya3budoon
I did not create the Jinn and mankind except to serve/worship Me (alone).

If you call on them, they cannot hear you. And even if they hear you, they cannot respond to you. And on the Day of Resurrection, they will reject your idolatry. And none can inform you like an Expert.

But if you mean, the spiritual way of worshipping God that many sufis do, I personally don't see a problem with that as long as you keep yourself within the boundaries that God has set up. And make sure your worship is for God alone.

    Bismillaah,

Wadeyisfree, thank you for sharing your story here. Did your wife also came to the same conclusion as you, that the 'quran-alone'-path is the path for you? And as someone else asked, does the masjid you attend know about your approach to our deen?

Nonsense. Most Quranists are from Muslim cultural backgrounds. Most converts these days tend to follow the salafee manhaj.

I have noticed that quranists are from a very different backgrounds, and all have different ways to their understanding. But i do not agree that most reverts tend to follow the salafi manhaj. Maybe they are the ones that you see and hear most, but the reverts are just a diverse group. The salafis are though very active in their dawah, but that doesn't mean the majority is following them or are drawn to them.

It's confusing because then God says -

4116 Lo! God pardons not that partners should be ascribed to Him. He pardons all except that, to whom He wills. Whoever ascribed partners to God, has wandered far astray.

So we shouldn't ascribe Prophet Muhammed to God as a partner, an equal? -Fair enough, so should we also not 'follow' Prophet Muhammed?

    Peace.

    Bismillaah,

I don't see how this is confusing at all. Even though i might not share the same ideas of certain things with the majority here, I can understand how a quranist/quran-aloner is folllowing the Prophet, peace be upon him, from their point of view. It all comes down to how we understand the commandment of following/obeying the Prophet.

    Questions/Comments on the Quran

    W Waqiah

the problem is that it does not limit the fight to a war by saying "fight those who fight you" or something like that

it just says "fight them because they are in the wrong path" in short
that their ways are destructive ways

If you read even further up in al-Quran, you will find this in 913

Would you not fight a people who broke their oaths and intended to expel the messenger, especially while they were the ones who attacked you first? Are you concerned about them? It is God who is more deserving that you be concerned with if you are believers.

    Questions/Comments on the Quran

  • If Allah wants things to be easy for us, why so much confusion about salat?
    W Waqiah

    Bismillaah
    Assalaamo alaykom all!

I am new to this forum, but have been reading here regularly for months now, and this is my first post here.

Somehow I can understand TS confusion about the whole salah-issue here. Obviously salah is one of the important aspects in our deen, and none of us who read al-Quran denies that of course. The confusion sets in when everyone seems to have different ideas of what it means. Pray 2, 3, 4 or 5 times a day. Some even say there is no ritual/physical prayer at all. To each their own.

And it is this confusion that is causing me distress in my faith. Because I find myself unable to perform any salah. When I believed that there was one fixed way of doing it, I had no problems focusing and connecting in earnest with God. But now I'm unconvinced that my method is correct, and this inner dilemma is hindering me from performing prayer with the purity that I had before...

At the moment I am in a phase where I am not doing ritualistic prayer 3 times a day regularly. I feel confused in understanding what i am suppose to do in a prayer. I have tried to to do 2 sujood while saying some quranic verses but then the next day I become lazy due to confusion about timings and if Salah is also studying the quraan and "thanking" Allah and doing good deeds etc.

If you feel comfortable in praying the ?traditional way?, then why don?t you do that? Is there anything in al-Qur?aan that says you can?t pray that way? The only thing I can think of that might be akward ? some of you would probably say it?s completely wrong and shirk ? is some parts of the tashahud. But if that?s so, you can be quiet in that part, or praise God, ot make any du?aa you like.

I don?t understand what?s the big deal with praying the ?traditional way? if you belive salah = physical prayer. Well even if you think salah is something else, what?s wrong woth physical prayer as well? Is it so important to be different from ?the traditionalists? so we feel we must make up our own rituals when a person might feel comfortable with their way of praying? If you don?t feel comfortable with it, that that?s another question.
