Modern standard Arabic is a language that was definitely shaped through Sunni mistranslations. Just look at the translations for zak?h and sal?h. The same would apply for terms like yah?d and naSara, I opine. These terms are easily deducable from pure Arabic roots and do not need to be seen as terms coming from the outside (like a loanword yah?d would be). Furthermore the variant alladh?na hud? is in no way consistent with that loanword theory, I would say. We need an Arabic root meaning for that word. I have to say, though, that contrary to me, mquran in the other thread thinks it comes from HWD, meaning approaching, not related to guidance. An interesting option as well to think about. I know that helpers is anSar. That?s why I didn?t translate it as helpers but those who helped. Nevertheless, the Arabic root is totally identical. Coming from that root, how would you directly translate the term, I wonder? Just deducing it from the root, not by the supposed meaning of "Christians"? I am interested in your opinion here. Talk about one can find anything in the internet. I do not know about this story ,it seems far fetched and weird. However , what is certain and known by everyone is what today s wars are doing to humans . These horrors of mankind are butchering girls, boys, adults old and young. Peace All. GOD created the human and made him a "Khalifa" on earth. This human is every individual living on earth the predetermined time that GOD has assigned for each. GOD offered the "Amana"- responsibility to choose freely and live peacefully with other humans to all.. GOD has not assigned any human above the other. Knowledge , good deeds and good morals elevate the human , the opposite brings the human down. Freedom of choice can only mean the following hierarchy 1-GOD the creator/GOD s law/universal natural laws. The true sovereignty. 2- human the viceroy/sub sovereign/ legislator/common law to live with others. 3- Governments/leaders/monarch/groups chosen by the sub sovereigns/ contracted to rule and police and ...deal with the organisation and admin/health...etc. Now , what happened along the line of the generations, GOD s law and the sub sovereignty of individuals have been cast aside and the hierarchy has been turned upside down by religions of men and systems of dictators. GOD s system and the freedom of the humans have been hijacked by the opposition to GOD and His system and the few that ruled have been oppressing the subjects/masses and dividing the humans/racism... to keep their systems. Islam to GOD just means you are free from oppression of man and live as a sovereign on earth under GOD s system /free individual from all other systems. One may ask ,what does this mean? Well let us answer this by asking few more questions 1- What is the freedom to choose? 2-Can a human force another human to do things they have not both agreed on /contracted with each other to do? 3- Can a leader/government act as a mafia and enforce rules and taxes that have not been agreed by those who put them there? 4- What contracts have individuals signed and agreed to with their governments? 5= Where is the obligation to honor something you have not agreed to or have a contract to do? So the law of justice/GOD s law says if you are forced to do things you have not agreed or promised /mutual agreement /contract. ,it is oppression and injustice.. i.e your freedom has been taken away from you. Are not most ,if not all, the world s government being unjust towards their subjects by forcing unjust laws and taxes? Islam to GOD will free the individual from tyranny and injustice. Are the oppressed people always the good people? I mean not always but mostly? Not all oppressed people are good people. But the opposite is true. Good people will never oppressed another people. Good people will never threatened other people. Good people will never see him/her self as superior to other people. Good people will never seek vengeance or hold grouches to other people. Instead Good people will try to help other people. Good people respect other people's free will, opinion and belief. Good people is humble, he/she sees other people as part of him/her own self. Good people is compassionate and forgiving. Through this opposite of characteristics you can then recognized good vs bad/evil, light vs darkness. This recognition is the lesson for you to learn while you're here now on earth. It is misleading if you reckon good vs bad/evil based on people's races, nationality, ethnicity, religion, social classes/condition, wealth and other form of social identities. Only through their individual characteristic you can differentiate them. Hardship / Oppressed / Adversity is a temporal condition, it will eventually change and shifted. Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power -- Abraham Lincoln.
