Salam.
My friend and i have this really long and sometimes heated discussion.
I say that women have to cover their chests because their chests are private parts, because breats are considered private and men are tempted by the woman's breats. Women's chests are used more then man's chests during the sexual intercourse and if i'm incorrect, then please correct me.
I mean, women are not tempted by men's chests that much, right? Or am i wrong.
My friend says the opposite.
He says that women should also walk around bare chested just like some men, for example at the beach.Now, i would like to ask you all to quote The Quran.
Does it say anywhere in The Quran that women's chests are private parts?

anyways, the quran verse is the one that sunnis use to say you gotta cover your hair even though there is no word hair in there it just says cover your clevage

There are 4 places in al-qur'aan pertaining to the female chest being covered or hidden
2431 And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and keep covered their private parts, and that they should not reveal their beauty except what is apparent, and let them put-forth their shawls over their cleavage. And let them not reveal their beauty (zeenat) except to their husbands, or their fathers, or fathers of their husbands, or their sons, or the sons of their husbands, or their brothers, or the sons of their brothers, or the sons of their sisters, or their women, or those committed to them by oath, or the male servants who are without need, or the child who has not yet understood the composition of women. And let them not strike with their feet in a manner that reveals what they are keeping hidden of their beauty. And repent to God, all of you believers, that you may succeed.
3 places are in the above verse and one place in the following verse
3359 O prophet, tell your wives, your daughters, and the wives of the believers that they should lengthen upon themselves their outer garments. That is better so that they would not be recognized and harmed. God is Forgiver, Merciful.

I said that my friend said that women should walka round bare chested.
That was wrong, i misunderstood.
What he said was this"Should men also cover their chests?"If women are told to cover their chests, should men do the same?
Because some men do walk around bare chestes.I'm sorry for the mistake.

To my knowledge there is no command in al-qur'aan for men to cover their chests. The last I checked, men don't have any cleavage in the chest region unless they have some hormonal disorder causing gynecomastia (rare) or they are transsexuals with a boob job !

I think men covering thier chest is more for modesty and protection of young people than anything else. I do not want to see a hairy beer-gutted man on the beach, that would be unpleasant.

We should definitely hear from more women on this. However, from my own inquiries I think it's safe to say that women do not experience the hormonal surge that men do from mere visual stimuli. A woman may say a guy has an attractive chest and then move on. Men, on the other hand, would find it difficult to think of anything else when exposed to women's bare breasts. I think there may be some magical powers involved.

i agree, Bro Tay, i don't think women are excited thru visual stimuli on its own as much as it is for men, at least that's how i am.
but i think it has more to do with being modest rather than sexual arousal. why not leave that door closed so it doesn't lead to anything else. plus our bodies are precious they really shouldn't be exposed to every tom, dick and harry... or harriette in this case ;D

In my opinion, if all women started to go around bare-chested like men now, in the NEXT generation people won't find breasts sexual anymore. That is exactly what is happening deep in Africa where the tribal people have not been able to afford clothes for generations.
