    Peace "almarh0m",
I really feel sorry for you. First of all congatulations on your recovery and praise be to GOD. So you see how the delvelopment of science helps and is what GOD wants. Now i believe there will come a day when physical surgery would become absolete as 1) stem cells could be injected which would then autorepair the system 2) sound frequencies will stimulate certain organs in a certian way and cause them to self repair 3) future medicine derived from observing various ohenomena in nature, maybe even that in outer space trough apectral analysis or other, may proof to help humans tremedously. This is another reason why we must go into space and do reaserach there. GOD Bless!

        Salaam

One hour ago I examined a young man having a Hodgkin Lymphoma (sort of cancer), terminal stage; he was suffering, breathing very heavily, but he was conscious, very aware of his state. He asked me not to let him suffer, he did not ask to help him to die but to make him feel better. It was beyond my medical "power". All I could offer was a smile and a promise to alleviate his pain. I secretely prayed God to make his death "easy" and rapid. His brother just phoned me that he is dead. May God have mercy on him.

And what do I find in my favourite forum? A subject on euthanasia!

You know, we doctors are sometimes very hypocrites. Most of us refuse euthanasia but all of us practice it indirectly. What do you call the fact of letting some terminally ill person without treatment or not giving him all the drugs or the care his illness deserves? That is what we frequently do. The difference between euthanasia and not using intensive medication to keep someone whose case is desperate alive is very tiny... When to stop? Nobody have found the answer yet... Is there a difference between killing actively and letting die passively? '(

        God bless you

          Salaam All

This is not an Easy question to answer Nor can we condemn people who ask Euthanasia to be done to them . After all, we ( you ) are not the Ones who are suffering The Pain and Anguish of those Sick people. I happened to be Diagnosed with Brain Aneurysm last year while having a Scan for some other conditions , I was told that I have to to undergo Neuro-Surgery to clip the anerysm the Following week .

I was not prepared prepared to that especially after being told about the 3 Probable Outcome, namely #1. The Operation succesful and I fully recover a Normal life ( though with temporary Memory Loss for up to 3 Months.
#2. The Surgey is Unsuccessful and I have a Stroke and/or HEART attack or both and Die. #3. The opeartion is neither successful nor un- successful and I become a Human Vedgetable . The first 2 Outcome I could accept gladly, however I was not willing to even think abot the 3rd . So I asked my Team of Operating Surgeons and my family , in the Event of the latter Outcome, to allow me to Die ( I beggen them not to prolong my life) .

Thank The GOD , the Operation was a Success, despite some temporary Memory Loss and a slowing Down of the Reasoning Faculty by a second or so. By the way , I had the choice of Not Doing anything at my Own Risk ( 3 Months to Live without the Ops) , So I guess My answer to the Question of Euthanasia Is should be allowed on A Case by Case Basis .

          God Bless and Cheers
          almarh0m

          Peace

The question I hve is this instead of praying for a rapid and fast death why not have asked for him to be cured for God is the One who cures and He is beyond medical science and can do anything it is easy for Him..

Why must we forgot where we fail to cure God can cure

Look at t picture of the Earth from NASA ..he eath is floating on what is seemingly nothing

anything else is easy for Him

I am not saying this particular case

but in general when it is time for someone to go then its there time

but why nt be more positive

and say to please cure him if it is Your Will God and if it isnt Your Will then let him not suffer etc

          just curious

          Umm Sara

Do doctors really do that ?!? Do you consult with the family of the patients first before 'letting' them die?

JK- Personally i never liked the idea of letting people die. Our job should be to do anything possible to save lives no matter how hopeless the situation may appear. Stem cell research can GW contribute a lot to this. GOD Bless!

Salaam, Sister Sarah's mother, JK, Jankren and all ;D

Well, in all the domains and specially biology and medicine, God put rules and patterns in such a way one can say if this disease is curable or not, if hope for "prolonging" some one's life is permitted or not etc. I witnessed "miracles" scientifically explainable but the occurrence of which was "statistically" nearly null such as the "apoptosis" of a huge tumor of the brain in one patient who was refused surgery because of a high risk of mortality.
Yes, we always pray God to heal, yes, God is omnipotent, by one word He can do anything but one can not ask Him something going against the nature of things.

I remember years ago when I was a young intern, I once was trying all the means I had (drugs, ressucitation material etc.) to keep alive a little child whose brain was nearly destroyed by an infection. The Chief doctor seeing this said "But in the name of God, what did he do to you? Let him die in peace!" Since then, I always try not to use what we call in french "acharnement th?rapeutique", meaning what I said of "foolishly" using intensive care in order to keep some desperate, terminally ill person alive.

And yes, we do (or don't do) nothing unless we have the patient's family (and if possible the patient's himself) agreement. If they ask for intensive care, they will have it but in most of the cases, it is the family that asks to have its patient home and to let him go in peace. It is not fatalism in the way we imagine it. It is just accepting, by the medical staff, the family and the patient, that it is over, that God is taking back what He gave, that it is the course of life, that nature is one more time the winner in this life.

You know, it is the patient who has to be in the centre of the doctor's concerns. Many questions have to be asked in such situations and specially what kind of life am I going to offer my patient? Am I doing this for his welfare or for satisfying my own ego?

It is not easy but always remembering God helps a lot!

                Peace

                  Peace "deceptious",
The terminally ill issue is somewhat problematic. Ok one is most likely to define it as 1) all the scientists in the world havnt yet found a cure for the situation 2) local scientists havnt yet found a cure. In case of no.1 i can understand but in case no. 2 i cant and it makes me very anngry. In Germany doctors might not have the medical treatment to cure a person's brain whilst in the US such a therapy is available. In that case it aint right to put the person to death. One needs to try everything one can, stem cells, drugs, physical operations, etc etc. One can also put the patient into a chemical choma so that he doesnt feel pain while one is searching for a cure. GOD Bless!

                    peace everyone

when its in the vegetative state of course, there is no use for the person, its a body but brain is dead...when they are depressed they shouldnt kill them and it is hard to leave the person suffer alone and something should be done to help the person not kill him/her,i never been in such situation, neither family,my family thank God hasnt been so tragic...i hope it never happens to me.
i think im not qualify to give an advice,i just say they should help the person live not die....

                    peace

In my opinion, people who do not appreciate life do not deserve life.

                      Peace jankren, all

i wonder what happens to you. You usually are a very considerate, thoughtful "poster" but sometimes the gun just goes off too early i guess.

Suffering in a hospital bed, knowing - except a miracle - that the rest of your life will be just that, death can be the best thing to offer. Yes, the subject is extremely difficult, i understand that some people would do everything to make life go on, however hard or even non-existing it is (vegetable state) - and i respect that position as well. But i completely agree with decepticus about "l'acharnement th?rapeutique" - to keep someone alive by all means and may be even against the will of this person - if this person is still able to express his desires - do you have an expression for that in english ?

Also i think about the many persons kept alive through machines with nearly no chance of living normally again after they may be come out of coma after month or years and on the contrary the many other not even taken care of because of the lack of means or just their lack of proper insurance.whatever it's a crazy world. i don't say these persons should be euthanazised (how do u write this) but sometimes i would just leave it to god and pull the plug

Did you read my post above? We cannot just put someone to death even he wants that because at the time of depression one might want things which he otherwise wouldnt have even dreamt off so if a cure exists, be it anywhere in the world, steps to get it must be taken. GOD Bless!

So plz tell me aint it much more reasonable to put the patient who seems to be a hopeless case into a chemically induced coma and then try to communicate with as much scientists as possible to see if there could be a cure before just putting him to death? GOD Bless!

                              Peace bro johnny

i never said one should be just put to death. It is normal to try to find a cure, but sometimes there is none and also think of all those that could be easily cured, but don't have the means. This is why i said, like decepticus, that "l'acharnement th?rapeutique" is not my cup of tea.

Every situation is different. One of my in-laws just died last week, and to be frank, his time would had come a few years ago already if he had been a member of a less financially fortuned family. And this may have been better actually for the whole family - these last two years were only pain and suffering for everybody. Would i have been in his case, considering age and condition, i would have asked to leave me alone to die at home and if i had the chance, to just alleviate my pain as far as possible. For sure, had it been one of my kids, i would have searched for the least possibility of a cure.

Hope u understand my position - i'm not a black and white person (anymore) - real life made me aware of grey zones.

As for you not being a black and white person that is very good. Scientists are well aware of the grey zones in life and so am i. Life aint balck and white but that does not mean we should abandon thinking or seraching for a possible cure if a person is APPARENTLY dead sick. Thts the whole point. GOD Bless!

yes God cures if he wishes so, but death as well is part of his system - alhamdullilah it exists. Would you like to life forever - i mean here on this earth ?

So if you follow gods laws u'll be cured, as says Johnny but well, to die is also part of the law

                                      elke

                                        Peace all

There is no one Doubting that God Cures sick people but through Doctors and Medicines . God does Provide Sustenance for us all too , But, does thet mean We just sit in Prayers and expect provision to drop from the heavens? No Way , we still have to go to work and earn our Keeps . yay

By the way, It is not how long we live in this World , but How much Good we do for ourselves and for others , that's what matters .

                                        Cheers

                                          Peace almarh0m, all,

There is no one Doubting that God Cures sick people but through Doctors and Medicines

Not necessarily only through doctors and medicines. Good nutrition, exercise, other alternative forms of treatment including acupuncture, physical therapy etc. can also help and even miraculous cures (spontaneous resolution of a disease) are possible.

For your info, iatrogenic cause of death (death caused by doctors through prescribed medicines) is one of the leading causes of death in USA and iatrogenic morbidity (illness caused by doctors through medicines) is also very common, so traditional doctors do not always help but can contribute to sickness and death also.

Cures can happen as long as one follows the natural laws but the traditional doctors do not always follow the exact natural laws because science has not yet discovered all the natural laws and sometimes can make mistakes too !
