In many traditional societies, having abundance of kids mean good blessing. Why? Because the more kids u have, the more people u use to work on your fields without having to pay other people.

i ask my mom why she had me,and she reply saying she wanted to be a mother,my dad said he wanted to have a family like his dad.
other people have other reasons,like a guy told me he wants to see how him and his wife's offspring's face would look like.
it should be to bring good people to the earth , like ibrahim and yaqub taught their sons to worship nothing but God and be good men.idolatry carries you towards great insanity.come on,it is a problem we can fix,i dont want to wait for a war or catastrophic natural events to wipe out the excesses,we can do better as humans.think as a whole.

To think having more kids will make one's religion dominant is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. There's so many things wrong with that idea, I can't even begin to address it.

The only reason there are 1.5 billion Muslims in the world is because Muslim?s traditionally seem to have very large families. (And the practice of polygamy may also contribute to the large number of Muslims there are in the world).
And the reason Orthodox Jews tend to have large families is to make up for the number of Jews lost in the holocaust (well that?s what I read on wiki).
I couldn?t imagine having more then 2 children ~ having half a dozen kids is sheer hell. elektroOne thing that winds me up about people that have a ridiculous amount of children, is when they complain that they can?t look after them, and when you ask them why did they bother having so many in the first place they just say it?s Allah?s will and they were predestined to come. yeah whatever

yea people do mistakes, they get unwanted syndroms like myself. i never lost the idea that i am born against my will. if i had the choice i'd want to be a wild cat... that is just my perspective since i am human and i don't know what a wild cat would want to be. i am not sure if that request is going to be accepted by Allah..why not make a soul then ask it, choose a body to fit in whether a human or an animal or a plant or jinn etc.. in the same keep the balance between each species...

Salaams all,
Allah says in 41 that He created countless men and woman. I think we can certainly count the number that are alive today, although obviously not throughout all time.
I personally don't think overpopulation is the problem, I think that is what the enemy of mankind wants us to think and gives seemingly logical reasons for it.
I think our inability to properly use space and resources are the reason that over population seems to be a problem. The earth is HUGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE with much more space and resources that we haven't even uncovered or discovered yet. Once we learn to live in peace and harmony and to preserve the planet, we will find that this earth can accomodate billions if not trillions of more humans on it, Allah willing.

I pray this doesn't happen. It's hard enough as it is to find a little piece of nature that is devoid of human sound and garbage and mayhem. Very, very few civilizations know how to live in harmony with nature.

I truly understand what you are saying here. The problem to me is that we already have over 6 billion people on earth. Depopulation is not an option..that would mean killing people intentionally. Restricting the birth of kids is unislamic to me because it oppresses the most basic of human nature with a quota. We couldn't do it even if we wanted to, but even if we could, at that rate, we will still double, triple, quadruple and continue to grow in population over the next few hundred years or less. So the real only option is for our species to learn to live on earth without destroying it's natural resources. We have the technology to do this, we just need the governments of the world to have the will to do it, since the people don't seem to have it as a whole.
Either way, we are reaching a crossroads in our lives on earth. We will either learn to respect, preserve and nuture our earth; or we will be removed from it in mass numbers as someone else mentioned earlier.

I do not think God needs any help with population control via any form. Don't you notice all the natural disasters and deaths of so many humans at once? Perhaps, this is a form of population control entertwined with survival of the fittest (fittest in belief).

IQO...you mentioned here that it is necessary for all mankind to come together and then said let's pray that happens. I refuse to pray for anyone who is not a believer instructed per quran (pray for the believers only), and certainly all mankind are not beleivers, how do you justify this blatent disregard for the quranic commandment? Why is it that you said ONLY SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY CAN LEAD THE WAY THROUGH UNITY AND MUTUAL CARE, CONCERN AND RESPECT? Shouldn't it be that only God can lead the way via any form he chooses if that be science or technology or whatnot....
Why do you mention Allah Willing? Why not say God Willing or InShaAllah? Why combine two different languages? Where is the logic in that?
