The Stages of Creation & Evolution in the Quran

"7189 (The Message encompasses life in its totality.) Recall that Allah created life from a single life cell, then made male and female cells, and then shaped you into human beings, males and females..... .?
How did you arrive to this translation of the verse 7189?
Thanks

Nafs has many meanings including 'Living Entity', to translate it with 'Cell' is logical and coincides with Science.

Yes I realize that. However, I can't see how the rest of the verse can be translated as " then made male and female cells, and then shaped you into human beings, males and females..... .
There are no mentions of male or female or shaping humans. Also, while I am having a hard time fully understanding the verse in Arabic, the verse says that the the nafs and its partner asked god to be given something good so that they become thankful. I can't see how this can be applicable to cells.

i think we'll at least develope into beings who use more then 10% of their brains.
otherwise what's the point of our brain if we don't use all of it?
Btw, the 'we only use 10% of our brain' thing is a myth.
Brainscan studies show that every part of our brain has some kind of function... The brain is an expensive organ as it demands 20% of our energy intake, it would be a horrible waste if only 10% of it is working!

It is funny, the 10% use of the brain joke was made by Einstein during an interview. He made it as a joke, as the interviewer asked him why he was smart and if he was different from other people. He remarked, 'people only use 10% of their brain' to mean that he isn't special, all people have the same possibility if they want too.
Later on, this joke became an urban fact

My teacher told me that we use less then 5% of our brains?.

Peace all,
I think, in general, we use very little of our brain capacity because in our daily routines, there is very little brain function required. And we become immersed in our routines, thus leaving the larger capacity untapped. This can be seen quite clearly in the special abilities of some autistic people.

I think my question got lost in the discussion. I am really interested in the answer.

Salaam Saleh,
I already had said earlier that I use QXP, a Tasreef translation. Look my post up earlier in the thread.

Peace all,
Once again there is a problem of understanding the meaing of the phrase "using only 10% of the brain". One can understand this as 1) we always use only particular 10% of the total brain regions in our lifetimes whilst the others always remain inactive or 2) we never use more than 10% of our brain AT ANY PARTICULAR TIME or 3) we never use more than 10% OF THE TOTAL STORAGE CAPACITY IN OUR BRAIN throughout our lives. So first youve got to define a little bit more precisely what you mean. I can say for sure tht point 1 is total nonsense. As for pt 2 im not sure and reg pt 3, yes i can agree with tht and i dont think anyone has ever exhausted his brain's storage capacity throughout his life. GOD Bless! -

Peace Arnold,
I consider myself really open minded, which makes me critical of almost anything I hear or read. I am also completely open to new interpretation of verses. That being said, I can't see how this verse can in anyway be translated the way you quoted it. I'd appreciate it if you can grab my hand and walk me through it slowly.
Thanks

Salaam Saleh, come to www.ourbeacon.com, then I and the author of QXP can explain it to you.

arnold, you translated 7189 like this
7189 (The Message encompasses life in its totality.) Recall that Allah created life from a single life cell, then made male and female cells, and then shaped you into human beings, males and females..... .?this is from freeminds translation
7189 He is the One who created you from one person, and He made from it its mate to reside with. When he dwelled with her, she became pregnant with a light load, and she continued with it; then when it became heavy, they called on God, their Lord "If You give us an upright child, then we will be among the thankful."don't know which one is more correct,
but anyway, based on that is it a fact that humans came from a different species?is it possible that this "single life cell" refers to how a human is created in a womb?
somewhere else it's also mentioned the stages of development.
could it be that it refers to how a human is created in different stages in a womb? -
Peace Nadeem, all,
Nadeem, please correct me if I'm wrong, but when using Windows XP, isn't it true that many/most applications use up 100% of the CPU to start up? This is how I view the usage of our brains. Yes, we may use 100% or slightly less of our processing power in our daily activities, but we haven't used nearly all the potential of that power.
A 3ghz CPU running MSWord is not producing the same potential as a 3ghz CPU running a music studio. Yet both can be running at 100%. I think that's what people like Einstein were referring to.
Autism displays this in that people can perform seemingly superhuman abilities with only their brains. Is it coincidence these people often lack the simple day-to-day abilities that occupy so much of our time?
