      VVA,

There is often a difference between what Quran says, and what Muslims say.

I suggest reading Quran for yourself to see what it says www.studyquran.org

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

It seems you are differentiating yourself. hmm

Either way, your muslim friends are wrong.

        Why?

        peace

            Salaam,

OPF, I have read the posts. And still do not see how or why you would say something like that. Please back-up your statement.

            Thanks!

I missed the point, actually, because I was talking from my own experiences, muslims are quick to banish people to hell, which is what I thought he was referring to. peace

But this is what I said first

Distinction is made in terms of who has the most merit, who does the most good, and hence, who has the most piety.

              References 919/20/41, 495/96, 4915.

Again, I get the impression you are being cynical for the sake of being cynical, maybe your time would better be invested in the Quran.

Exactly my point on the other theard.

I'm sorry that that's the impression you get. Please know that I am not being cynical at all! I may or may not agree with you and to understand better, I need more input from your to make a better decision on the subject. I pray you understand what I ask for better and further explanation from you.

Ok.. with that said about this

Distinction is made in terms of who has the most merit, who does the most good, and hence, who has the most piety.

But these so called distinctions are decided by society and can be false on many occasions. Things like "most merit, most good, most piety" etc.. are things that people often make false judgements on.

                  Fair enough, my apologies )

The distinctions can be measured by their impacts, by numbers. "Piety" can't really be numbered but "most merit" can, at least by money.

The following is one of the most abused and misinterpreted verses of the Holy Quran

Those who believe (in the Qur'an), and those who follow the Jewish (scriptures), and the Christians and the Sabians, any who believe in Allah and the Last Day, and work righteousness, shall have their reward with their Lord; on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve (al-Baqarah 262)

Thinking this is a opportunity to show that Islam believes all religions are good and equal, ignorant people quote this verse in front of non-Muslims but they distort the true teaching.

The verse is talking about those people who believe, and from among the believers were those who were Jews and Christians and Sabians but before the advent of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) and the revelation of the Holy Quran. They were believers, and the Holy Quran addresses them in the following verse, inviting them to continue to their state of belief by now believing in the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) who has come in fulfilment of the prophecies of their religious scriptures

O ye who believe! believe in Allah and His messenger, and the scripture which He hath sent to His messenger and the scripture which He sent to those before (him). Any who denieth Allah, His angels, His Books, His messenger, and the Day of Judgment, hath gone far, far astray. (an-Nisa 4136)

So those who deny the fundamental beliefs, such as belief in the Messenger and the Books of Allah, of which now include the Holy Quran, they have gone astray and are not believers.

Regarding the People of the Book, among them were believers and disbelievers, and in this dispensation they are completely disbelievers because they have rejected the Holy Quran

It is never the wish of those without Faith among the people of the book , nor of the Pagans, that anything good should come down to you from your Lord. But Allah will choose for His special Mercy whom He will - for Allah is Lord of grace abounding. (al-Baqarah 2105)

This verse should at least make clear that disbelief is not simply restricted to the idolators/pagans, but it is the state of many (and today all) of the People of the Book (christians and jews).

Ye are the best of peoples, evolved for mankind, enjoining what is right, forbidding what is wrong, and believing in Allah. If only the people of the book had faith, it were best for them among them are some who have faith, but most of them are perverted transgressors. (al-Imran 3110)

And finally, there is no religion other than Islam that leads to salvation

The religion before Allah is Islam (submission to His Will) Nor did the People of the Book dissent therefrom except through envy of each other, after knowledge had come to them. But if any deny the Signs of Allah, Allah is swift in calling to account (al-Imran 319)

this above verse makes clear that the People of the Book used to be in Islam, but they later dissented. So the famous verse 262 applies to those People of the Book of the former dispensations, not of this age.

If anyone desires a religion other than Islam (submission to Allah, never will it be accepted of him; and in the Hereafter He will be in the ranks of those who have lost (All spiritual good). (al-Imran 385)

The OP was asking how the quran judges, not society.

No, you are not. It happens quite frequently, I mean the "hypothetical personality".
