    He made the earth expand.
So now your arguemt is answered?

Of course not, we're merely back to square one. 7930 says he spread it out. It says nothing about egg shaped. That is a scam. And spread it out matches all of the other verses that speak of this. There are many other verse that speak of this in terms of smoothing out, and flattening out as well as spreading out.

Well, I can show you many respected translators who disagree with you. But let's go with expanded as to me, there really isn't much difference. So how was the earth "expanded"? Was it "enlarged" or something? Did it grow after it was created? How so?

No no. That's "expanding" earth, not expanded earth.. We've already been through that. The expansion was something Allah did in one shot before he sent the rain down, so this isn't going to work. Maybe the earth expanded as it was cooling off? Or, maybe expanding was meant to mean the same thing as spreading out. The two can indeed mean the same thing. Expand can have the same meaning as spread out.

God has been expanding the earth. No contradiction here.

But what did God do to originally expand the earth? Remember, the verse is in past tense. Nowhere does it say "We are expanding the earth" or "we are spreading out the earth"

                  Probably create it?

No it is not. It's a present perfect progressive tense.

Ummmm, no. when you expand something, something has already been created in order for you to expand it. So probably not.

It's a present perfect progressive tense.

What? The earth, we have expanded it, means that it is continually expanding? Is there nothing you won't attempt? I hope that guy explorer reads this stuff, because now he can see it's just like I told him. Nobody, nobody is more creative and twists and bends their scriptures more than Muslims. Nobody.

Break it down, and then tell me that Ibn Kathir has no understanding of Arabic grammer

When God says we blessed this land, it means that that land is blessed till today, 2171. Same thing applies to "We expanded this earth". It has been expanding until today.

No, but that was a nice try. It means the land remains blessed and the earth remains expanded. We blessed the land and it remains blessed as it was when we blessed it. We expanded the earth and it remains expanded as it was when we expanded it.

That is not correct Arab grammer. It simply means God has been blessing that land, so as it means God has been expanding the earth.

I do not care about translators, they uaually get things wrong especially when it comes to grammer and words that have more than one meaning.

Ibn Kathir wrote exegesis, tafseer, not his own Quran.

Most people alive today in 1st and 2nd world countries have a better grasp of science than Aristotle, but where do you see the comparisons?

Cheap shot. Many Muslims and even non-Muslims know that mistranslations exist in the English versions of the Quran. Ibn Kathir tried to explain the Quran in good faith, but I strongly disagree with some of what he said, Many Muslim thinkers do too. There is nothing wrong with that, because there is no priesthood in Islam.

Yes but why are YOU better than the scholars? Seems like if you don't like what they say, you'll simply put your creative cap on make up whatever you want.

And there's no agreed upon meaning for the Quran then either, right? So who's Quran should I read? ;D

But let's face it, a lot of this is horse manure. It's pretty funny how there usually appears to be universal agreement on the meaning of a non problematic verses, and they are thought to be clear. But the moment a verse appears to be problematic, then immediately that becomes the mysterious verse where we don't really know what it means. Honestly, who do you people think you are fooling? How are you so unashamedly skewed and subjective?
