    peace All,

If one were to service a machine, by simply doing one small positive act, such as oiling a cog-wheel (i.e a component of the machine), then whilst the act was done on only one part of the machine, it would be true to say that one served the whole of it.
This observation holds, no matter how many components the machine has, be it ten or billions.

I believe in this, lies the foundation to understanding the concept of serviing (ibadat) The God, as expressed in 'the reading' (al quran).

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

        peace all,

Sometimes I jot down ideas for lyrics or lyrics themselves (I have a dream to complete an album one day). I was bouncing around ideas in my head for a central theme for a song. I wanted to portray the connected-ness of us all and specifically how it relates to me (although I'm sure many can relate) and how I see/feel injustice/negativity/oppression/poverty etc.
So I wrote down some thoughts such as those unjust/negative/etc situations not only affecting others but affecting me (mentally/spiritually), whilst they did not happen to me directly as if they were linked to me in some way indirectly, how I felt them linked to me, feeling chained to the bad situations around me, like they made me feel personally burdoned, like a weight on my shoulders, weighed down.... when all I want to do is feel the opposite, to transcend the weight/burden/chains of this life, rise spiritually/mentally, but how experience of these situations were beating me up inside, they were holding me down, weighing me down, I felt chained to them unable to break free and uplift myself... and at first, I thought to myself this was a negative, a problem, if only I never had those feelings/concerns keeping me down I could concentrate on my own betterment, advancement, spirituality etc. but then it hit me... perhaps those feelings and me trying to transcend spiritually/mentally were connected, in order for me to get closer to God maybe I needed to break these chains/burdens/weights that I see/experience around me and that was the point of them... they were a necessary link in the chain leading to Him, by doing good, reducing the injustices/poverty/negativity/etc and trying to better myself through their betterment would allow me to uplift myself at the same time, and maybe that is why God put them there... to truly serve The God was to serve something higher than your own self, and that is how you become higher yourself (spiritually speaking ), you get what you put forth, so if I serve that which is higher/greater than myself, the whole, maybe I will enjoy the company of The Most High/Great, The Whole, The One.

And erm, that was my thoughts for the night. Of course, they may have been swayed after having watched a great episode of Heroes earlier that evening and whilst having these thoughts I happened to be listening to "Another Day in Paradise" by Phil Collins.

I then thought of this analogy, which I wrote about in this thread (which I consider to be the best post I've ever written on this forum) and I thought I'd post this small realisation, as some may find it helpful.

Your post gives a deeper meaning to "whoever believes in God and does good"
            A beautiful post, indeed.

This an intelligent and useful reflection. We tend to be overwhelmed by the magnitude of unsolved problems and shortcomings around us and in the world as a whole, to de point where we may feel completely uncapable and useless. So it is good to keep in mind that we do in fact contribute and anyway the results of averything are always in God's hands.

              Salaam

I agree with you sister, this is important to keep in mind.
