    Hi Br's,

    So who thinks honey is mentioned in the quran? peace

    Salaams All.

    Personally my findings indicate there isn?t any mentioning of honey in the quran, but if you think it is then it was certainly well known before the quran the usefulness of honey.

    http//www.rowsehoney.co.uk/viewarticle.php?navid=n05&contentid=c52b

    It is believed that honey history dated as far back as 10 to 20 million years ago and the practice of beekeeping to produce honey, apiculture, dates back to at least 700 BC.
    In ancient times, Eygptians sacrificed honey by the tons to their river gods, Roman legions slathered honey on the wounds to promote healing, and medieval lords reserved honey for their private use. It's told that the body of Alexander the Great was preserved and embalmed with honey. As honey was then expensive and not all could afford it, its use in cooking was reserved only for the wealthy. And ancient myths and writings on alcoholic beverages throughout the world also contain references to mead, or honey wine, which is known as the world's oldest fermented berverage.
    The biblical history also contains honey facts biblical history also contains honey facts related to its benefits and goodness. Honey, a delicacy fit for the kings and queens!

    God Bless All.

      Showing honey was known for its usefulness pre-Quran is irrelevant, unless one is implying al quran stated it brought a new discovery.

      All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

        Peace to all,

        Well simple , Honey is mentioned in the Quran as both for healing and for medicinal purposes. The article you linked only tells how it was usedin ancient ceremonies, in art, for eating, etc. It was only a few years ago that science actually proved the medicinal and healing properties, just as the Quran said it had.

        Yusuf Ali
        And thy Lord taught the Bee to build its cells in hills, on trees, and in (men's) habitations;

        Then to eat of all the produce (of the earth), and find with skill the spacious paths of its Lord there issues from within their bodies a drink of varying colours, wherein is healing for men verily in this is a Sign for those who give thought.

        And your Lord inspired the bee to build its hive on the hills and the trees, and on the rooftops of buildings.
        And (He inspired the bee) to suck the nectar of all kinds of fruit, and follow the smooth path laid down by your Lord. Extracts of varying colors, having medicinal properties for people, ooze out from its body. Surely, there is a sign in it for any nation that ponders!

        Kurt

          New discovery! There are tons of better things then honey, but the fact is that was the only thing they new so they stuck it in the translation.

          i wouldn't encourage anybody to eat too much of it - it does make some people become diabetic.

          The ayah's are telling people to follow in the tracks of those most successfull in life- thus prosper, and the world doing so mainly in the west and far east are doing well indeed- unlike the lovers of honey.

          God Bless.

                Come on Br - logic and evidence are there for the takers/ for the open minded, No?

                However saying that all No amount of logic and evidence can convince Hindus not to take piss as holy or for the Muslims to be shown pig meat or strong drink are like other foods ,No .

                Logic and evidence are there in the pges of the quran if you look.

                    Hi,

                    Last thing i would like to say is if you do become diabetic , Honey is even more dangerous then sugar - so be wise.

                    http//www.mayoclinic.com/health/diabetes/AN00425

                    And don't simply take it as The Food from God as all foods are from God peace.

                      This does not show by any means that honey is more dangerous for diabetics. On the contrary. It shows it is better, albeit slightly better.

                        Peace buddy.

                        If not then i will point you to a few.

                        Go ahead, I asked you for a reason.

                        True why shouldn't it be translated as honey- simply because there where other things in Gods creation better things then honey , why not talk about them?

                        I think you get into a lot of trouble this way; when you start translating quran or any book based on what you WANT to see or read about. We have to translate quran (or any other book! ) for what it says. Quran can't win either way, it could've talked about something else and somebody else would've said 'hey why doesn't it talk about honey!'. As for there being other creations of God being better than honey - that's subjective. That's your opinion, and here's mine.

                        I believe there are many reasons why honeybees and honey are just amazing. Do you realize that without honeybees we would lose many, if not all of our plants? Because honeybees when they collect pollen they transfer pollen from one plant to another, enabling them to produce seeds. This process is known as pollination.

                        Last thing i would like to say is if you do become diabetic , Honey is even more dangerous then sugar - so be wise.

                        Not true. First, the 'sugar' you buy at the grocery store is processed, refined and has no nutritional value period. You are making your body work for nothing! Think about this... Honey does have some nutritional value in addition to being an anti-microbial. But like everything else it should only be consumed in moderation. It's definitely a much better alternative to regular 'sugar'. And especially because it's a sugar it shouldn't be consumed all the time. And it's 77% sugar.

                        Those Muslims who god knows why think its the greatest thing given to them by God- simply because it is mentioned in there translation.

                        First, muslims is not a proper noun. Second, which muslims think it's the greatest thing? And so what?

                        And don't simply take it as The Food from God as all foods are from God

                        Yes. Who said that it's 'food from God'? I think we are talking about how what the quran says about honey and honeybees is absolutely consistent with reality. What's the crime here?

                          Dear DA,

                          Yes. Who said that it's 'food from God'? I think we are talking about how what the quran says about honey and honeybees is absolutely consistent with reality. What's the crime here?

                          The greatest crime given to Muslims and not muslims is everything in the quran that is showing them ways to get ahead, prosper, do better so they can get to pinnacles of glory has/ was turned into honey bees or animals or birds or mountains or stars in the said quran and so the methodology was hidden away which it still is because people still believe these things are honey bees or animals or birds or mountains, when they aren't at all. And Muslims are now learning from other nation how they can get ahead - when really its all in their quran but Mistranslated - use a dictionary and your intellect and i think you will see likewise.

                          Thanks for the effort but you really need a classic Arabic dictionary and your intellect Br and not the traditional followers of which we were all once.

                          God Bless.

                            To clarify, proving there are things better than honey at XYZ is irrelevant, unless one is implying AQ states honey is best at XYZ.

                            A person making irrelevant points is usually not considered to be using their intellect.

                                      YUSUFALI (Here is) a Parable of the Garden which the righteous are promised in it are rivers of water incorruptible; rivers of milk of which the taste never changes; rivers of wine, a joy to those who drink; and rivers of honey pure and clear. In it there are for them all kinds of fruits; and Grace from their Lord. (Can those in such Bliss) be compared to such as shall dwell for ever in the Fire, and be given, to drink, boiling water, so that it cuts up their bowels (to pieces)?

                                      Otherwise why would it be in heaven??

                                        Oh I see, since AQ mentions something that may be in heaven, that automatically implies it is one of the best substances? ) I prefer points not based on unevidenced extrapolations.

                                          Very good of you to point that out- funny who I painted the picture for though couldn?t see that.

                                          Of course as a parable something as sweet as honey is perfect.

                                          But my point is still that the following ayah is nothing at all to do with honey or honey bees;

                                          PICKTHAL And thy Lord inspired the bee, saying Choose thou habitations in the hills and in the trees and in that which they thatch;

                                          Bees don?t live in mountains or trees but do live in what they themselves build.

                                          But each to his understanding.

                                          God Bless All.
