    Salaams mr. humble,

I think it is because they can't understand the difference between prayer which is "dua" and ritual prayer worship which is As Salaat. Also, since they don't accept that one form of a root word doesn't have to have the same meaning in all forms, they feel that if any other word derived from S-L-W doesn't fit with "ritual prayer worship"; then this must obviously not be the meaning, according to those that subscribe to that type of thinking. But this is seen with most roots and the different words derived from them. Just my two cents. hmm

    As Salaamu Alaikum, peace

    assalamualikum(pece be upon you),

i have noticed that ever so often the translation for "salaat" in the free-minds translation changes from time to time

from "contact-method", to "oath-of-allegience", and now... "the communion". this must be a difficult case since the translator who updates the free-minds translation ever so often feels that there is no simple english word to describe "Salaat"? why???

i hope this doesn't outrage any of you... this time i didn't intend to bash forum members, since they are not the ones responsible for this act.

i do agree that "namaaz" is a non-arabic term, i think persian, right?

i just want to point out that in English language, "contact-method" and "oath of allegiance" are not the same thing. hope intellignt people here takes note of this! i have noticed this, even when i was thinking i was a quran aloner(hadith rejecter, all of them) but never found the courage to post it, since i thought it wasn't important. but now i realize that changes in terms could alter the meaning of the quran from its original intent! doesn't salaat directly translate as "Prayer"?

    Peace, Rifat

One downside of online translations is there is no list of changes, and reason given for change when changed, which is what I proposed long time ago.

Remember free-minds is NOT a cult/sect with the same views, so any reference to group think is irrelevant. Questions should be addressed to the person in charge of the translation, which is Layth.

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

        You beat me to it.
That first sentence should be in every thread and at the bottom of every post as it just doesn't seem to get through to some. No offense.

        peace

Language is the bursting out of the fountain of information springing up in the hearts. Then what is uttered is the tip of the iceberg that spills from the tip of the tongue; and what you spell is the word, then the words and then into sentences. So we must have the heart to understand the wholesomeness of the heart; and this is the real communication. But sadly enough we embark on the man made language with the grammar usages and so on and so forth. For eg., the word 'prayer' is still haunting the entire populace from the time man was created. Except man all other creations are doing their prayers as Allah had conducted them for, man has taken other than Allah's to teach and conduct him in His prayers.

For 1500 years you do not know what prayer is; and we will never know what prayer is! Turn to Allah and lead your life fearing your conscience and stay in righteousness! And before long you will know for sure that this is the only prayer Allah is definitely pleased with. It is time we stopped even discussing what prayer is and involve in action rather than involving in debates as to how to act a prayer out.

To every one We taught them the prayer which they observe, therefore they should not dispute with you about the matter and call to your Lord; most surely you are on a right way.

              Peace,

Why is that a bad thing?

An honest, truth-seeking person will change his mind ever so often. Who believes the same thing from cradle to grave?

No, salat doesn't translate as "prayer".

              Dua is prayer.

You want to say that "prophets have been changing their minds very often about tauheed" .Because that was the most honest truth seeking group.

                  Salam,

I agree with House M.D. on this one.

People who seek truth will continue to change their mind each time they come accross more information.

Case in point Abraham (the father of prophets) began with the premise that his people were misguided...then he researched/thought and determined that a certain shining planet was god...then he researched/thought and determined that the moon was god...then he researched/thought and determined that the sun was god...then, finally, he found the truth, that God was the One who initiated all these things and He is above them all (674-79)

Which of the above is true? say with evidence from the ayats

provide the evidence/proof for your claim.

                      Allah alone knows the real meaning of quranic verses;

                      Again proof/evidence rquested.

I noticed another change to "commune", e.g.

1071 Have you seen him who is denying IN the system?
1072 It is the one who mistreats the orphan,
1073 And does not encourage the feeding of the poor.
1074 So woe to those who commune,
1075 But to? their communion they are absent minded.
1076 They only want to be seen,
1077 And they withhold from far-reaching deeds.

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.
