Salaam/Hello,
I'm new here. I come from a moderate Muslim family. Therefore, extremism and bigotry is something I despise most. I used to be an active member of ummah dot com, but they promote an extremist interpretation of Islam, embracing violent activities and marginalization of women. After my relentless efforts in reasoning with them, I gave up and sought out moderate, secular and free-minded Muslims such as myself. Eventually I stumbled upon this site. From what I've been seeing here, I like this place already.

Salam afsalim. Welcome to the forum ) I hope you will enjoy being here, and share your knowledge with us. Follwing God alone is the true islam. Abraham was monotheist, and he was one of the greatest. Pray for god to show you the the way, and be patient, because everything takes a bit time before we understand it fully, especially for me it was like this when i first found islam through God alone. I advice you to read every article you can find on free-minds.org. Almost every article here has some great knowledge in it that the other does not contain, so get the best results you should read them all.
by the way. the "quran when it is used alone", actually contain more rights for women than any other religion. Read this interesting article, it might be very relevant to your views on women

Secularism does not mean non-religious, it just means believing in a system where religion and state remains separate, allowing freedom of thought and spirituality.
Secular does mean non-religious according to any English dictionary. Nevertheless, I understand what you are trying to say. I too am an advocate of 'Secular Government'.

No it's not. Islam is not a religion...Unless you can tell me how Abraham, Jesus, his followers, Moses, his followers, Noah, Joseph, Solomon and Pharoah were following a religion called Islam (arabic word) and were using the arabic word muslim. Quranically, they all claim to be muslims.

2278 can be seen as a proper name, but the vast majority of its usage is as a common word. Thus even if one takes it as a proper name that doesn't discount that it has an actual meaning. It is clear from my studies that its primary signification is as a description, not as a proper noun, but that doesn't mean it cant be used as such.

Proposing that "al-muslimeen" in 2278 is a proper name is no different than proposing that 1400 years ago the followers of the prophet were actually called "The Submitters" long before Modern English was invented. Saying "The Submitters" to Arabs 1400 years ago or "Al Muslimeen" to Ibrahim's followers a few thousand years earlier would have sounded just as gibberish as saying "Qasdhwdkfvwdhcv" to people on this thread. It will still be gibberish to everyone here even if thousands of years from now some yet to be invented language will have "qasdhwdkfvwdhcv" as a meaningful word.

Hehe yeah.. nowadays in sermon, sunnis (i'm among the sunnis) have been saying about humiliation to Islam, Or Islam says this, Islam says that Islam forbids this Islam forbids that.... i wonder, is Islam their God now? I only heard Allah when they are reciting some of the quran verse.. correct me if i'm wrong, Islam not a noun. And surely not a holy noun. D
