There's a very good reason why both men and women cover their heads when outdoors in Arabia. The sun is really hot and it's not pleasent getting sand in your hair. Unfortunately, sex obcessed imam's took things out of context to force women to dress like pengiuns!

But they were not covering it before Islam , they used to show their hair and part of their bosom also.
Imams are not sex obsessed , practically there is a real difference between a woman showing her her hair and a woman covering it , really the hair gives a lot of beauty to the woman , so the word adornment in the Quran could be interpreted as not showing the hair because it is a real adornment .

From what I heard, before Islam, in Arabia a tradition was for women to cover their hair and show their bosoms. Although this is only hearsay - are they any pre-Islamic sources for the dress code in Pagan Arabia?

        Fajr,
So you think that just because my hair is pretty, I should be covering it? How about lowering your gaze? There are a lot of people into many different things and find the slightest things attrative. Anything from skin tone, to eye color, eyebrow shape (be them bushy or thin), or maybe just the color that I may be wearing. Why is it my responsibility to cover up because YOU find something attractive, after the fact of following God's rules??? Huh.

God commanded us to be modest. NOT UGLY... NOT UNNATRACTIVE! Modesty does NOT mean ugly. Modesty does not mean unnattractive. Matter of fact, many people find modesty ATTRACTIVE and are grossly disguisted by people who show everything.

On top of that, an adornment? Why must smoething that comes naturally from me an adornment?

There are many women who like certain hair styles on men.... short hair, long hair, afros, dreadlocks! Should they be covering their hair too?

On top of that just because the Prophet Muhammad may have allowed his wife to do somthing does not mean that it is an obligation. Again, you represent a case where Muslims make no distinction between the personal life and hte spiritual life of the Prophet.

        salaam

If women were walking around like ninjas how could the Prophet admire their beauty??

Beyond the categories described to you, you are enjoined from marrying any other women, nor can you substitute a new wife (from the prohibited categories), no matter how much you admire their beauty. You must be content with those already made lawful to you. GOD is watchful over all things.

I agree , but it doesn't mean that they were showing their hair , only their face which would determine if the woman is beautiful or ugly .

              Salaam,

just the other day i saw a hijabi walk by , a real decent one, not one with her hair covered but her butt moving like an eal, and what did two or three guys standing there do watch her ass.... so, when will we women be finally left alone. Unless you propose that we just stay at home, from our fathers house to your husbands and than straight to the cementary...

That is not a decent hijab if she is doing like that . Hijab is not only covering the hair , I can cover my hair but I can dress very tight clothes , what is the use of hijab if women do that?!

dear fajr, my question would have been "what is the use of hijab if men do that". Just two letters change but it means a world. no i'm just joking, i know what you mean, but do you get what i mean ?

                    Salaam,

Elke and others. You are wrong, you are all completely wrong. You seem to labour under the notion that the principle of hijab has something to do with logc and that it springs from a desire for decency, or modesty or keeping men from sinning by not tempting them or something of sorts. But you are very wrong and in 24.32 men and women of same categories are given the same hijabous treatment, not to delve into the fact that that were we to go from that premise, hairheaded women of the world would be free to tempt their sons, their brothers, their in-laws, their fathers (Amstetting ? la Fritzl anybody?)? So no, it is not that. It is much better than that. The concept of hijab is simply? MAGIC? You put hijab into your life and? nothing changes. But it doesn?t matter, because through magic everything is what you say it is. Thanks to the magic of hijab everything is perfect, the World is perfect, men are perfect, women are what they should be... Hair is son the head of women not to cover their head, but to have their hair covered magically, and have magical men.

I really recommend everybody to embrace hijab magic, not because it will solve anything (like what would it solve, for instance?), but because even if it doesn?t, you feel that everything is as it should be and let not the magic feeling by destroyed by reality.

On the other hand if people get picky and really feel as if they indeed wanted to solve the problems between the sexes, then the only realistic proposal I have is the two planet principle. One for women and one for men, and guranteed stocks of frozen sperm. That of course would other problems unsolved, like homo... whatever. But between the sexes, that would be it.

All that said, one thing I have to acknowledge as a plus from the hiyab magic febrility is that thanks to it Muslims top the ranks of the obssessed and the silly by whichever rating system. The world is falling on them and they respond with what?

                    YES???? HIJAB MAGIC ???

I encourage everybody to keep filling another pile of millions of Internet pages with it, we should be sure to secure our top ranking till the day of qiyama.

Salaam dear brothers and sisters, Salaam from Saturn,

And this planeary location is not because of the sexes, but because of keeping the hijab magic tide from drowning me.

Can I kiss everybody ever so virtually?

I understand what you're saying but what are the modesty in your eyes according to the Quran ? Quran says Khimar and jilbab . Do you think it's ok if I wear sleeveless blouse , would it be still modest ? what you see modest other wouldn't see it so . Who is putting the rules of modesty ? It is the Quran in 2 words " Khimar and jlbab ".

                      Peace

Yes , I agree with you , what is the point of hijab . Did wearing it make any difference to Muslims women and the world ? Corruption still there .
What is the point of praying ? did our prayers made any difference to many of us Muslims , did it change the world ? Corruption still there .

There is no point in seeing the advantages of anything because we don't want to see it .

No one is saying hijab is magic and salat is magic but that doesn't make us ignore the good side of it .

Please, do not sell me a lame cow. "Hijab", the hijab you are talking about, is not a synonim for modesty, it is not commanded in the Quran, however much you snatch at straws, and doesn't have good or bad sides to it. It is merely an simply and invention. If you feel better hijabing about, please do not feel conspicous and hijab yourself to your hearts content, it is your business and nobody else's. Do not come though telling that it is some commandment, do not come imposing on believers burdens that God Himself has not imposed. Do not infringe on the scope that our Merciful modeller has given us to lead our lives making use of the faculties He has given us and has commanded us to use. Do not impose restrictions nor condition our morality and submission to God to a certain purported fashion or use, actual or imagined. Islam is not about fashion and God has not said that we should follow a fashion, but judgement, our honest, thankful judgement.

And not hijab is not magic nor good. Enjoy it with all my blessings if you like it, but do not sell it as moral merchandise. It is not. It may be a merchandise, but it is not per se moral or inmoral. If you want to dress decently, you will, without having to pay homages or regards or sacralise a piece of contrived clothing for anybody else but yourself, if you feel like it. You cannot uphold moral by undermining sincerity and purity and imposing invented burdens, just because you feel that these burdens have certain (magic) properties.

I'm not feeling anything magical , I'm just a submitter to GOD's' orders . You can't ignore the fact that the word khimar is in the quran , khimar was known to the Arabs as head cover , or maybe you don't like the word khimar because it's out of fashion and God wouldn't command us of such unfashionable dress !!

The women MAY have been covering their head as part of the cultural wear in those days but it certainly wasn't commanded by Allah as part of islam.

I told you before that they wouldn't have done that without the approval of the prophet , if he approved it , it means that what is his understanding of the verse.

way before the prophet was born, people were wearing head covers.

                                How do i know that????!!!!!!!!!!!?????????????????

Sand! To cover themselves from the sand. And direct contact from the sun. And dust.

It does not command any "hijab", my dear, it does not, nor does it speak of any "hijab". And I am not going to go into the little "turn around forever" play hijab fans so much like. I know the tactic of imposing it out of seer downwearing of people. Fiddling with the Quran is not going to make a command appear where there is none. NONE. NONE, my dear, NONE. You will have to wait for another creation in order to have a "hijab" by God's commandment, if such a thing will ever happen.
At any rate, you, like we all, are free to put on whatever you desire, so thank God no problem.

                                    As Salaam Alaikum Fajr,

As far as I am concerned the Quran tells me to cover my breast and lengthen my clothes. That's it. He doesn't tell me how to wear a "khimar" (besides covering my breast) or how long my "jilbab" should be.

                                        Salaam, Elke,

Sorry, sister, I didn't mean to attribute to you or anybody anything. You sure are pefectly capable of attributing to yourself everything you need without my help. I took the liberty of using your previous post to get me going on some sarcamized versions of certain visions of "hijab". Other than that I am one of those who trust each and every person, woman or man, to be eminently capable of choosing the way they dress and present themselves as most appropriate to their needs and aspirations and wish them all well in their endeavours and trust that God will guide them in everything.
