I think its pretty obvious why Kurt asked whether you consume alcohol and pork. Namely because according to the Quran Pork is forbidden and alcohol is satanic. I think you guys need to consider what you are trading God's guidance for.

544 We have sent down the Torah, in it is guidance and a light; the prophets who have submitted judged with it for those who are Jews, as well as the Rabbis, and the Priests, for what they were entrusted of God?s Scripture, and they were witness over. So do not fear the people but fear Me; and do not purchase with My revelations a cheap price. And whoever does not judge with what God has sent down, then these are the rejecters.

1695 And do not purchase with God?s pledge a cheap price. What is with God is far better for you if you know.

    Regarding other meats being forbidden

1614 And He is the One who committed the sea, that you may eat from it a tender meat, and that you may extract from it pearls that you wear. And you see the ships flowing through it, so that you may seek from His bounty, and that you may be thankful.

5222 We will supply them with fruit and meat such as they desire.

5621 And meat of birds that they desire.

      Peace be upon you Lobster,

Meat eaters have fangs and substances in ther stomachs to fight the infections of eating an amimal. Humans have to tenderize thier meat to get around not having fangs, and makes effery effort to spice it up to taste like a vegetable. Meat takes a very long time for the human to digest. And there are many mor reasons I dont have memorized, but you can do an easy search to find many more examples.

        Peace be upon you,

Lets first determine God's guidance before we accuse others of trading it.

As for myself, I dont rely on only one man made book for guidance. Even if it is one of the best books for guidance. God says to trust in that which is INSPIRED to you and those before you.

Why is it that you blindly believe that pork is bad , while rat meat, or turkey scrapple is good for you?

Was there some sort of verification process that made you believe that, or because it is written in a book?

          Peace to all,

and did you know that the absence of meat shrinks your brain?

Thanks aalmakto, your spot on, so lobster doesnt eat pork, why not, is it harmful or immoral for you,, i thought you only follow reason, so is it unreasonable for us to eat pork, cause I used to love it, i still have a hard time turning down a bratwurst, my wife even tries to tempt me by cooking them and saying how much i used to love them,, yet I never touched pork once since I read the Quran and beleived it is from God, but oh well, to me mine and to you yours,

            Peace God Within,
If I thought the Quran was a man made book I probably would not be on this forum. So to answer your question, I believed it because it was written in "a book" as you put it.

If a person has verified the Quran and accepted its claims of divinity would it not be hypocritical to then begin questioning every clear ruling . I am not talking about the vague verses here. But the verses that even a Layman can understand.

                    Peace to all,

Yes, god within, sometimes beleiving is all we have, and when our reason conflicts with what God says, it is most likely our reasoning capacity that is wrong and not God, though I agree we should think, question, learn, and reason as much as we can, remember we are still using our own puny brains and limited intellect to think rationally, yet God is all knowing, so yes i try my best, but when in doubt I dont doubt God, so faith in God and absolute belief in him is the most perfect thing we can do when all else fails us.

And godwithin, heres a newsclip for starters that a recent atudy shows a strictly vegan diet shrinks your brain and other problems, nothing wrong with a bit of meat, though I refuse pork.

Ask cannibals, they would confirm what pig meat tastes like. They call men long pig.

Is eating pork harmful? That's the question. I've hardly ever eaten pork but I don't mind eating it much more than any other meat.

been a while since the last time i visited this forum, few years back when i was searching for answers in life. in many ways, questions were answered after i found this website and some other progressive islam sites, as a matter of fact, i dont were hijab anymore, i dont do my prayers no more, i tried to eat pork (but got to quit coz of my cholesterol), tried some wine and beer (but didn't like the taste), i'm not even fasting this month of ramadhan. i dont know if i went overboard with my 'liberating' adventures, but i do know that after a while i started to feel like something is missing... i started to miss the rituals i used to do, started to miss my hijab, started to long the noise of azan from the mosques (don't hear it here in the US). i just feel like i want to go back to my old life being a 'regular' Muslim (which was a sunni, btw) not principally perhaps, merely nostalgic. dunno if any of you got the same kind of feelings i do, guess it's just a temporary drawback (hopefully...)

Hi, I think it's normal to continue and question issues, it's far much better than the Sunni way, which consist into following the majority without questioning and without even thinking about it, as most of them are afraid, since they feel secure in their "ignorance", I was a Sunni by accident as many over here, and I don't regret a single day of moving forward and away from it. I feel much better now, and don't worry, he most important think is to stick with the Quran and ditch away all the Hadiths, this was actually my great achievement so far..

I think I once read that pork has a lot of nitrites in it which I think are supposed to be carcinogenic. A friend of mine came up with the idea once that the reason why consuming pork is forbidden is that pig organs can be used as implants, and eating pork increases resistance to pig organs, which makes them less suitable as organ implants.

Peace, I think there were so many theories about the reason behind God command to avoid eating Pig's meat, unless of course we were constrained to do so.
My point is if a verse is clear than we ought to obey the command.
Let's compile the CLEAR commands and move on.

                                Peace

I understand what you're saying, but I also think it's important to know the deity's reason for issuing Its commandments.

DO you mean blind belief? Well the Christian will say thier Bible clearly says to worship Jesus....do we follow that as well blindly? Remember, this message says to trust in that which descedned to us AND THOSE BEFORE US. So do we just blindly follow everything?

The rejecter is asked to PROVE IT...so why shouldnt the believer?

Doesnt God say that the eyes, and intellegence will be judged?

DOesnt God say thet It wants to move us from belief to knowledge?

Arent we told to say "My Lord, increase me in knowledge"?

There is a HUGE difference between belief and knowledge.....one only says "I believe" when thy CANT SAY "I Know".

It is KNOWLEGDE that is the firm ground on which to build, all else is a sandy cliff which will crumble

Be careful what you ask. If you still want to question God's judgment that is your decision.

1142 And while it was running with them in waves like mountains, Noah called to his son, who was in an isolated place ?My son, ride with us, and do not be with the rejecters!?
1143 He said ?I will take refuge to the mountain which will save me from the water.? He said ?There is no savior from God?s decree except to whom He grants mercy.? And the wave came between them, so he was one of those who drowned.
1144 And it was said ?O land, swallow your water, and O sky, cease.? And the water was diminished, and the matter concluded. And it came to rest on the Judi, and it was said ?Away with the wicked people.?
1145 And Noah called on his Lord, and he said ?My Lord, my son is from my family, and your promise is the truth, and you are the Wisest of all Judges.?
1146 He said ?O Noah, he is not from your family, he was fathered illicitly, so do not ask what you have no knowledge of. I advise you not to be of the ignorant.?
1147 He said ?My Lord, I seek refuge with You that I would ask You what I did not have knowledge of. And if You do not forgive me and have mercy on me, I will be of the losers!?

1865 So they came upon a servant of Ours whom We had given him mercy from Us and We taught him knowledge from Us.
1866 Moses said to him ?Can I follow you so that you will teach me from the guidance you have been taught??
1867 He said ?You will not be able to have patience with me.?
1868 ?And how can you be patient about that which you have not been given any news??
1869 He said ?You will find me, God willing, to be patient. And I will not disobey any command of yours.?
1870 He said ?If you follow me, then do not ask about anything until I relate it to you.?
1871 So they ventured forth until they rode in a boat and he made a hole in it. He said ?Did you make a hole in it to drown its people? You have done something dreadful!?
1872 He said ?Did I not tell you that you will not be able to have patience with me??
1873 He said ?Forgive me for what I forgot, and do not be hard upon my request with you.?
1874 So they ventured forth until they came upon a youth, and he killed him. He said ?Have you killed an innocent person without justice? You have truly come with something awful!?
1875 He said ?Did I not tell you that you will not be able to have patience with me??
1876 He said ?If I ask you about anything after this, then do not keep me in your company. You will then have a reason over me.?
1877 So they ventured forth until they came to the people of a town. They requested food from its people but they refused to host them. Then they found a wall which was close to collapsing, so he built it. He said ?If you wished, you could have asked a wage for it!?
1878 He said ?For this, we will now part ways. I will inform you of the meanings of those things that you could not have patience over.?
1879 ?As for the boat, it belonged to some poor people who were working the sea, so I wanted to damage it as there was a king coming who takes every boat by force.?
1880 ?And as for the youth, his parents were believers, so we feared that he would oppress them by his transgression and disbelief.?
1881 ?So we wanted their Lord to replace for them with one who is better than him in purity and closer to mercy.?
1882 ?And as for the wall, it belonged to two orphaned boys in the city, and underneath it was a treasure for them, and their father was a good man, so your Lord wanted that they would reach their independence and take out their treasure as a mercy from your Lord. And none of what I did was of my own accord. That is the meaning of what you could not have patience for.?
