    aw,

Rather than referencing verses and applying little thought, there is a preference for applying thought before referencing verses.

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

What I mean is in many of your posts you quote verses which regurgitate views already discussed, even if they dont support your view but you do not realise if they do or not. Hence applying thought before posting of verses is recommended, and I referenced a link to help with this

I only find in Quran were you salat to God only. I do not find in Quran were we must salat to others.

Do you serve other than God what cannot benifit you or harm you?

                Peace Wakas,

Your above example would hold weight if all content in al quran was instructional and required doing of a physical act, e.g. feeding the poor. However, its content is not all like that, and we dont know what was said.

Even if what was said was a mental command/advice, how did the second party know when the first party had acknowledged it, so that they can move in for the salat? "When they had prostrated" in 4102, implies a physical act of acknowledgment to the mental or physical advice/command given.

"When they had prostrated" in 4102, implies a physical act of acknowledgment to the mental or physical advice/command given.

                  I already answered

4102 mentions "when they have sjd" which has several possibilities. It's primary meaning is to acknowledge / give recognition (positively), which can take various forms.

I will elaborate by explaining what I meant by "various forms", underlining the other possiblities

                  From http//www.studyquran.co.uk/PRLonline.htm

= Siin-Jiim-Dal = lowly, humble, submissive, worship, adore, prostrate, make obeisance, lower/bend oneself down towards the ground, lower the head, to salute/honour/magnify, to pay respect, to stand up, to look continuedly and tranquily.

Thus, it is impossible to say if they physically prostrated or not, as there are other possibilities. Do you agree?

Prostrate means "hear and obey"...its like the teacher took a class and gave them the command to memorize some words, then split the group im two, after the first group prostrates(hears and obeys)..memorizes the words, then the next group came up and memorized the words..prostrated.

It will not seem to fit if you just rely on one occurence, but if you ook at all the verses with prostrate, you will see how this is a metaphor. Ayman has a great article somewhere on this issue that you should take a look at.

                        Peace everyone,

I came across the following while reading al-quran

                        7441 About the criminals.
7442 ?What has caused you to be in the scorching heat??
7443 They said ?We were not of those who connected (musalleen).?
7444 ?And we did not feed the poor person.?
7445 ?And we used to participate with those who spoke falsehood.?
7446 ?And we used to deny the Day of Judgment.?
7447 ?Until the certainty came to us.?

This clearly shows that those who did not perform salaat might incur punishment in the life hereafter. Therefore, it follows that salat is obligatory upon muslims/momins, contrary to what a lot of people who post in this forum think and preach.

                        Comments please.

If you interpret the above verse (7443) as
"Those who didn't regularly bow and prostrate and perform the sahadah RITUAL five times a day". (as prescribed by Sunni's cleric)
Then why does does the corrupters, child abusers, mass murderers, enslaver, oppresors, idol worshipper etc.. is not even mentioned????
Is not performing some kind of RITUAL five times a day is MUCH WORSE than corrupters, child abusers, mass murderers, enslaver, oppresors, idol worshipper??

Let me tell you how I interpret 7443..
7443 They said ?We were not of those who UPHOLD/MAINTAINS THE COMMANDMENT (musalleen).?

The clerics interpret "shalat" as doing somekind of "RITUALS"..
                        While I interpret
                        SHALAT as "UPHOLDING GOD's COMMANDMENT".
Shalat as rituals can be considered as a 'rites' to ALWAYS REMEMBER GOD's Commandment.

If you read the Bible (Old and New Testament) there are many verses there which shows that God loves Mercy, Justice more than merely praying or other rituals...

                        Exhibit 1.
                        Hosea 66
For I desire mercy, not sacrifice, and acknowledgment of God rather than burnt offerings.

                        Exhibit 2.
                        Mark 28-34
One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating.
Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, "Of all the commandments, which is the most important?"
"The most important one," answered Jesus, "is this 'Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one.
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.
he second is this 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these."

"Well said, teacher," the man replied. "You are right in saying that God is one and there is no other but him.
To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.

When Jesus saw that he had answered wisely, he said to him, "You are not far from the kingdom of God."

                        Matthew 23
"Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices?mint, dill and cummin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law?justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former.

                        Exhibit 3 -- On Praying

                        Matthew 5
"And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words.
Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

If you read the bible, the main theme was how the Jews always forgetful of THEIR COMMANDMENTS which is around upholding JUSTICE, LOVE AND MERCY.
Especially on the Jesus episodes (read New Testament), the main theme was on the Clerics Hypocrisy, the clerics put emphasis more on "rituals" (e.g. Synagogue praying mass, torah readings, offerings/KORBAN) rather than JUSTICE, LOVE AND MERCY, which is what actually GOD wanted.

                        Salam / Peace

Isn't feeding the poor a "commandment"? So you still run into the same discrepency that you had to start with...why say after salaat that they did not feed the poor and not the rest of those sins?

Salaat is mentioned first because it is the means of changing your behavior(cause)...the rest are examples of behaviors that need changing..the effects.

i would like to know, if there is no actual salat as in a ritual, then why did god send this verse 56. if prayer is merely just a kind of meditation or remembering of god. then there would be alot of wudu2 to be done especailly when god is in our mind all the time. but he was very specifec in the verse as when we get up to pray we must wash.

I think the answear to your questions are in this article. This article explains why rituals and salaat has nothing to do with the Quran, and that rituals and salaat is a man-made concept

                                Salam Anna,,

                                salam
i would like to know, if there is no actual salat as in a ritual, then why did god send this verse 56. if prayer is merely just a kind of meditation or remembering of god. then there would be alot of wudu2 to be done especially when god is in our mind all the time. but he was very specifec in the verse as when we get up to pray we must wash.

Salat is service to mankind. And because it's a physical task as much as mental, it requires not just having the right mindset but also preparing the face, hands and feet to carry on with the task. Why the emphasis on those parts? Those are the basic body parts (tools) that one basically uses when dealing with the world around him/her. Those parts have to be clean, wouldn't they? For example If you're cooking a meal for your family, wouldn't you, at least, clean your hands, tidy your hair, etc.. to prepare a clean meal? To keep those body parts clean is basic for one to meet the world and positively deal with it. The wudu' shows how much respect, seriousness and sincerity you have to your work and to the people you are serving or helping. To have those body parts clean is basic in performig the effort of salat the service to mankind.

                                peace

                                  Salaams Anna,

I wonder if you have ever come across any great painting where with certain cameras scientists have seen a picture below the picture, so a painter has painted a picture on an existing painting.

Like wise the quran was a master piece but people after the prophet tried to embody their previous believes and thus have corrupted it somewhat- I believe.

                                  There isn't a ritual prayer in the quran and neither wudu;

56 ? using the quran, lanes and the quranic dictionary.

O you who believe when you take to counsel cleanse yourselves- your actions and your earnings till the thing by which you gain- benefit/ services you provide holds back from doing evil with a firm setting and your people till they do likewise and when you are under an obligation/in sin then purify yourself and if you are morally sick or trying to find out or has come one of you from such a background or you not been able to have contact with women and not you find essence then look for the learned, ascended, good
And you wipe your-selves, actions and your earnings from it does not want Allah to lay upon you any hardship but He wants to purify you and to complete His favor upon you so that you may give thanks.

                                  God Bless.

Then why does does the corrupters, child abusers, mass murderers, enslaver, oppresors, idol worshipper etc.. is not even mentioned????

                                      salam,
the quran is not just about translating, the whole point of the aya is not what they are or not doing but the fact that anyone who does not do salat is bound to do wrong wether it be not giving the poor or killing its not how big or small the sin its the fact they disobeyed, if they do not wish to pray because they dont believe, then what is to stop them from doing any wrong, nothing. when god talks about mo2minin or musaleen he is not talking about the everyday person who prays then beats his wife or the person who will go and have a girlfriend but not married but he still prays. he is talking about the true mo2minin the true mosaleen those who are true to god. prayer is important it keeps us from thinkning and doing wrong, when prayer time comes we wont go doing something bad just before and then go stand infront of him . we will think twice of doing such things.KNOWING we are going to stand in front of him in prayer.

For the benefit of newer members, when you post one of your translations, please point out you pay no attention to Arabic grammar or cross-referencing of word usage.

                                        Thanks.

                                          Peace Anna,

You are absolutely right. 7443 can only be about connection/salaat with God according to the context. Al-quran tells us how to uphold this connection with God at certain times, preceded by ablution, and includes reading/reciting from al-quran, remembering God, praising and glorifying Him, and being humble and obedient to Him. This clearly shows that it has both physical and mental components, and it is a "ritual" to be carried out at certain times of the day, preceded by ablution, and carried out in a moderate tone. The mental components of salaat are of course more important; that is why God stresses more on the mental components of salat than the physical.

If it was "service to mankind" or "upholding the commandments", then it should include feeding the poor, not participating with those who speak falsehood, and not denying the Last Day. Mentioning these things in addition to salaat in 7443-46 clearly proves that salaat is not "commandments" or "service to mankind", especially in the context of chapter 74. We should be careful on how we translate and interpret al-quran, and not do it according to our personal whims and desires, but base it on correct understanding of the Arabic words, grammar, context, and cross referencing with other parts of al-quran (tasreef), and it is also very important to verify every information given by others for ourselves as per 1736 before blindly believing or following it.

May God guide us all to the truth.
