Number of wives?
-
salam,
correct me if im wrong , if we are of different religons we will argue over our different faiths, if we are the same religion but different sects we will argue over the hadeeths of differnt men, so now we are of the same faith with one book, and by god you will argue over the different translations. >Sister, its not just books that we need to abandon. People have other biases as well. Hadiths is only a small part of the preconceived notions that we need to abandon. We have to let go of all our preconceived notions and take the Quran as our standard.
angelNOW since this thread is about the number of wives, its very simple god has allowed men up too for wives on a condition he can be fair with all and equal, if not then one, but also he allowed it for the simple reason of that women who are widowed or divorced with children may have a husband and a father figuire.
Sister, previously unmarried women, women who have neither been widowed nor divorced, also require a husband and a family.
it is not a must that a man marry 4 but if he could then i beleive he should and if i were in a marriage, as a female i would have no problem with it, if god says it ok then who am i to judge and if it will make a family as in mother and children have a father and a husband, again no problem.
Yes, I don't think its a must, but the need for polygyny exists as long as unmarried women exist.
You are right, if God says its ok, then its ok. We shouldn't take our wishful thinking as our ilah.
how can i hate on it they are human as i am after all. peace
True, they have the same needs.

Quran requires women to take talaaq before entering into nikah with another man. Thats one husband at a time.
salam
i know this but i was referring to the post before which asked, if men are allowed to marry 4 then why women cant marry 4 men as well . so i kind of gave a small reason loooooool -
Assalaam Alaikum @Fahad
It's quite obvious that you seem to be 'running' from Sura 33.37. I have given you my perception and understanding of the ayah, and I have complied with your request.
Yet it appears that you lack the required level of emotional intelligence to engage in a intellectual discussion regarding the guidance of Allah.
Be that as It may, I will continue to focus on the topic and reserve the right to further engage you regarding the topic.
Sura Nisa 43 does NOT suggest, state or imply that Men can marry 2, 3 or 4 wives.
Wain khiftum alla tuqsitoo fee alyatama fa VERBAL SENTENCE >>> inkihoo ADVERBAL MODIFIERS >>> MA TABA lakum minna <<< GENITIVE >>> alnnisai ADJECTIVES >>> mathna wathulatha warubaAAa <<< fain khiftum alla taAAdiloo fa ADJECTIVE Subject (Al Nisa) >>>> wahidatan <<< aw ma malakat aymanukum thalika adna alla taAAooloo
It is Ma = NOT Taba = good/lawful Lakum =TO/For YOU to be given the Minna = favor/gift/blessing/benefit of Al Nisai = (get married to) Women Mathna = 2, Thulatha = 3, and Rubaa = 4 TIMES
There are THREE points that make it clear as to the true meaning of the ayah
-
Ma Negative particle when placed BEFORE a perfect verb (taba) or BEFORE a pronoun or BEFORE a demonstrative noun. Also used as a negative particle BEFORE a perfect tense among verbal forms. Dictionary of the Holy Quran page 523-524 (ma)
-
mathna, thulatha and rubaa does not mean two three and four because two, three and four in Arabic are ithnaan, thalatha and arbaa' and not mathna, thulatha and rubaa
3)wahiditan (tarmubutah & tanwin, adjective to the feminine noun (Al Nisai ) means ONE female indefinitely
Fain = Therefore Khiftum = If you fear Alla = that you will fall short of your duty and obligation in marriage taAAdiloo = to act justly Fa = conjunctive particle ADJECTIVE of Subject (An-Nisa) wahidatan = Then Marry ONE TIME indefinitely (NOT 2, 3 and 4 TIMES)
Aw = wait UNTIL Malakat = you can take a wife Aymanukum = faithfully, feel trustworthy & secure in a marriage

Read in context not mangled verses and pseudo-intellectual-grammatical-nonsensical buzz words...
3332-37 O wives of the Prophet! You are not like any other women. If you keep your duty, then be not soft in speech, lest he in whose heart is a disease should be moved with desire, but speak in an honorable manner. And stay in your houses, and do not display yourselves like that of the times of ignorance, and perform As-Sal?t, and give Zak?t and obey All?h and His Messenger. All?h wishes only to remove Ar?Rijs (evil deeds and sins) from you, O members of the family, and to purify you with a thorough purification. And remember, that which is recited in your houses of the Verses of All?h and Al?Hikmah. Verily, All?h is Ever Most Courteous, Well?Acquainted with all things. Verily, the Muslims men and women, the believers men and women, the men and the women who are obedient, the men and women who are truthful, the men and the women who are patient, the men and the women who are humble, the men and the women who give Sadaq?t, the men and the women who observe Saum (fast), the men and the women who guard their chastity and the men and the women who remember All?h much with their hearts and tongues. All?h has prepared for them forgiveness and a great reward. It is not for a believer, man or woman, when All?h and His Messenger have decreed a matter that they should have any option in their decision. And whoever disobeys All?h and His Messenger, he has indeed strayed in to a plain error. And when you said to him on whom All?h has bestowed Grace and you have done favour "Keep your wife to yourself, and fear All?h." But you did hide in yourself that which All?h will make manifest, you did fear the people whereas All?h had a better right that you should fear Him. So when Zaid had accomplished his desire from her, We gave her to you in marriage, so that there may be no difficulty to the believers in respect of the wives of their adopted sons when the latter have no desire to keep them. And All?h's Command must be fulfilled.
The woman above was not a widow and Qur?an does not forbid more than one wife if all parties are agreeable.
The issue is frowned upon especially by missionary not right in the head sexual deviates in ?modern? society which expects/encourages young girls learn to perform in their mid-teens and majority of adults are morally hypocritical cheating unfaithful with over 55% divorce.

uuh excuse me, we are focusing on the arabic of the ayah NOT someone's translation. 'Zaid' s NOT in the arabic its 'zaydun'...a verb..NOT a noun.
'adopted son' is NOT in the ayah adAAiya-ihim various meanings relating to take legal action against, institute legal proceedings against, pretense, allegation, litigation, prosecution, suit, lawsuit, arrogance, self-importance, vanity
-
Thanks.
I had been looking for any such clue since long.
siki
For those / who take an oath for abstention from their wives, a waiting for four / arbaAAati months is ordained; if then they return, Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.
The ayah is speaking as a general statement to the collective community....
Thus Sura 2.232 is speaking to the general population as a ummah..NOT as individuals
Al-Baqarah 2.232] When you divorce women, and they fulfil the term of their ('Iddat), do not prevent them from marrying their husbands, if they mutually agree on equitable terms. This instruction is for all amongst you, who believe in Allah and the Last Day. That is (the course Making for) most virtue and purity amongst you and Allah knows, and you know not.

Read in context; it can only be a person and names in any language are often derived from verbs...
3337...so when zaydun ended from her a need/desire (divorced) We made you marry her...
Is below a person/name or verb?
Wama muhammadun illa rasoolun...
3144 And Muhammad is not except a messenger... -

3144 And Muhammad is not except a messenger...zaydun to become greater, grow, become more, increase, compound, multiply, amount to more, exceed; Hans Wehr Arabic Dictionary page 451-452 (zada)
This statement does NOT exist in the Arabic of this ayah 'so when zaydun ended from her a need/desire (divorced) We made you marry her'
Better rendition......
33.37...qada zaydun minha wataran zawwaj nakaha li-kaa (for YOU)

Salaams,
isn,t the following ayah simply telling us we can marry as many as we can manage sensibly?
I've got a complaint about the way the poll is worded.
It doesn't mean "How many women one can marry" - this sounds like it is assuming all forum users are male.
It surely means "How many women a man can marry". Please remember to avoid sexist assumptions next time! Such assumptions can twist people's understanding of the Quran.
-

33.37......A decree or judgement has brought an end to the (previous) excesses] regarding (marriage to) your FEMALE's, the one SINGLE object of your desire is for YOU to marry one female.
This part of the ayah is clearly enforcing the mandate that all previous excessive and oppressive practices as it relates to women are over, done, 'nada'
Please showme the arabic statements for
- '3337 And when you say to who God blessed/comforted and eased on him...'
- 'him'
Also lets get the 'basics' first before attempting to argue about something you know nothing about
We will address Sura 3.144 after clarifying Sura 33.37

salam,
I appreciate your enthusiasim and have absoutely no doubts regarding your passion and sinceriety towards learning or teaching, but sister , you have to take it easy, very easy at this stage. Because I find you erring and that also grossly, in most of your posts.
I sincerly hope that you take this advice of mine in the true spirit that i intend to convey.

To all the knowledgable sisters at this forum
I am quite sure , that you are in disagreement with Muslimtruthrvealed on some of her ideas that she has presented in this forum. But i find you all quite, just hushed up, in sisterhood, why is that so?
Is that an honest way to carry out learning? Isn't that against what GOD ordains, that you should not conceal what your hearts recognize as truth?
I am sure our sister MTR,,, would pecieve it differently, if one of you come forward and correct her instead of us.

Assalaam Alaikum @siki
First, point I am a male
Second, The females NEVER argue against the truth only the Men argue that they can have multiple wives.
Third, The Quran is the Truth.
You nor any other individual can show ANY errors in the Quran, ONLY in the errant translations.
Now show where I am in error
-
Assalaam Alaikum @siki
Please show the females you so desperately wish to remain 'enlightened' by false interpretations and translations, where I am 'grossly in error'.
I await your response.

Thanks God, half of the problem is solved.
Brother , picking out any alternate meaning of your suiting of an arabic word from the dictionary and replacing it in an ayaha? I am afraid , it does not work like that.

Assalaam Alaikum @siki...
Im not concerned about your personal opinion of me. Im concerned about your assertion that I am in error as it relates to polygamy / ploygyny.
Please respond with evidence not your personal sentiment, which has no value as it relates to the Quran.
I await your response.
