    Dear edip

" We " include Ibrahim and Ismail also. And further Allah does not ridicule Ibrahim but only reminds them that His promise will not hold good for those transgress. So following the two prophets we seek that Allah makes us muslims as Muhammad too would have similarly followed him. There are many many ayats that talk about being a muslim; and we will come to that later one by one so that there is no contras at all.

      Dear drfazal,

I agree with you that one must not say that "I am a Muslim" but instead one can say "i am one of the Muslims".

In the following verse it is clear to us that there is not a better saying than to claim that ?I am one of the submitters? but this claim is subject to the inviting of people to God?s message and doing good deeds. Saying ?I am one of the submitters? is only valid if one does good deeds and invites people to the message of God.
4133 And who is better in saying than one who invites to God, and does good works, and says "I am one of those who have surrendered."

Following verse tells what makes a submitter.
4125 Who can be better in religion than one who submits his whole self to God, does good, and follows the way of Abraham the true in Faith? For God did take Abraham for a friend.

According to my understanding, in the system of Islam becoming one of the Muslims is the highest ranking and this can only be achieved by fully practicing what is ordered in Quran. Following is the verse which tells us about the rankings or stages of this system which is called Islam.

3335 For Muslim men and women,- for believing men and women, for devout men and women, for true men and women, for men and women who are patient and constant, for men and women who humble themselves, for men and women who give in Charity, for men and women who fast (and deny themselves), for men and women who guard their chastity, and for men and women who engage much in God's praise,- for them has God prepared forgiveness and great reward.

In my understanding in the above verse God has given the sequence or stages to become one of the Muslims. According to my understanding the process starts with God?s praise and the utmost achievement is to reach the degree of one of the submitters. One can take the sequence vice versa too but in my opinion God has started from the top most stage.

The verse 2128 clearly tells that Abraham asked the God to make ?Muslims? out of his progeny that clearly gives an understanding that all cannot become Muslims thus clarifying my understanding.

The following verses tell the same story that one must be of those who submit.
6163 "He has no partner, and it is to this that I was commanded, and I am the first of those who have submitted."
3012 "And I was commanded to be the first of those who submit."

In my understanding, following all the orders given to believers by Quran can lead the believer to the status of ?one of the Muslims?

My conclusion form the above verses is that the claim by anyone himself as submitters does not have any value unless one follows the God and the Messenger. In other words anyone claiming by himself to be ?one of the submitters? does not have any value unless the God or the messenger tells them so. Quran tells us about all the qualities of a believer to let humans understand that unless Human follows all the qualities of a believer mentioned in Quran he cannot call himself as ?one of the submitter? or ?one of the Muslims?. The other logic for my conclusion is that Quran does not address the ?Muslims? directly in whole of the Quran.

?One of the Muslims? is claimed by the prophet Mohammad himself. This is also a logical proof that Muslims are superior to believers, because believers needs addressing and Muslims don?t.

      Regards.

Labels like Muslims or Christians are only valuable if they are able to identify something specific. When you say Muslim it is identified with Sunni/Shia crowd. So whats the purpose of calling yourself Muslim if you are not Sunni/Shia? Trying to determine the technical meaning of the word does not mean much since the Koran refers to Nasara when it talks about the disciples and also uses Hudna as an adjective of faith. After all Yahood comes from the word hady meaning guidance. Yet the Koran mostly refers to Jews and Christians in their identified form.

We must also be aware that the identity of Muslim is not us as is undertsood by the meaning of the word. We are Koranist. Either Koranist or Koran aloners, depending on the person. Koranist believe the prime authority is the Koran and nothing should abrogate it or override it. They can accept other sources as long as it does not contradict the Koran or is made obligatory. While Aloners believe only the Koran has authority and nothing else. Sunni/Shias do not believe in this. So why get the same label? Lables are for identification. Just like a name. Its there for identification.

Muslims means purest in heart for Allah and free from all shirks; are we so? Should we not seek from allah that he makes our heart pure with untainted-belief; 449 says never call yourself pure muslims; for Allah makes one Pure and Guides them in the righteousness who He wish.

              Salaams All,

              Was he realy!

Amazing Since the time of Abraham over 2500 years till the Quran no body ever used this name "Muslim" even after Jesus- no literature any where that i have ever come across, have you? apart from the quran, there is a lot of literature available the sea scrolls e.t.c

I believe Abraham said it as a descriptive term for people to surrender to........

Abraham wasn't a Jew, Cristian, Sikh, Muslim ..........but told people to behave themselves and serve the greater good, the greater cause, the cause of ALL humanity.

AND NOT OF A SELECT FEW.

              and be a muslim.

              hmm

              God Bless All.

I don't believe that is actually correct, especially if one refers to the Aramaic of Luke 640.

              http//home.comcast.net/~rzuberi/articles/Being_Like_The_Teacher.pdf

And technically, the term of "muslim" would most likely have existed during the time of Abraham as it's a verb that would apply to the angels.

Never say I am a muslim; say O God ! Make me a muslim

Whoso believes and works (does good deeds ) in the cause of salam, even as he is practicing it is indeed a muslim. On the contrary those who call themselves belonging to muslim community can never be muslims. Allah must acknowledge us as 'muslim' and increase us in our state of salam. When Allah chose one and the only Ibrahim from among the kufr community, that was a perfect example!

Now let us remember the ayah that says To whatever community you may belong Be it a mumin's, or christian's, or jew's community or sabians' (unknown communities of people ) whoso believes in the One God and fears the final judgment and do good, neither fear nor grief shall touch them. This is God given salam thus there are chosen muslims from the mankind like Ibrahim was chosen. A great Prophet was chosen from the kufr community and not from the so called 'muslim community.'

                      Dear Fazl

You are making up a prohibition without evidence... I do not find in the Quran such an instruction. To the contrary, there are instructions to the opposite. For instance

4133 Who is better in saying than one who invites to God, and does good works, and says "I am one of those who have peacefully surrendered."

                      4133

Nothing can be clearer than this.

                        Dear Tony and others

The oath we undertook before Allah is that we will not commit shirk is La Ilaha Illa Allahu i.e
Except Allah there is no other God. If you are muslims you must stand by your oath to Allah as follows..

Except Allah there is no other ... Creator
Except Allah there is no other ... Producer
Except Allah there is no other ... Provider
Except Allah there is no other ... Helper
Except Allah there is no other ... Protector to prevent me from diseases
Except Allah there is no other ... Forgiver
Except Allah there is no other ... Curer when I am inflicted with a diseases
Except Allah there is no other ... Producer
Except Allah there is no other ... Saviour from all adversities
Except Allah there is no other ... gods for all my needs.......

Thus the oath extends limitlessly until my life ends; I shall not commit the gravest sin of associating the things in the world and the peoples of the worlds to fulfill any of my needs; and such a covenant I made with Allah holds good till I breathe my last. During my such stint in the world I am endowed with His Bounties and Grace and Forgiveness and even more than what I even ever thought of. Such is the Truthfulness of Allah upon His bond men. Hence I am in total satisfaction with Allah as the sayer of Truth. I am contented with Allah as He is Content with me. This is the status of a Muslim. If you still think that you are a muslim and do not want to seek His help in becoming a muslim, then I am not even discussing the topic for God's sake.

Now follow Ibrahim "O God! Make us muslims! And teach us Prayer!"
                        .

                          Dear drfazl,

Points you raised in your post at 054806 AM are twisted truth portraying it to an idea which is not even supported by Quran but the Question is what is Allah and how to obey him? When one comes to this question then the real answer comes. Following corrections are done according to my understanding.

Except Allah there is no other ... originator not Creator
Except Allah there is no other ... originator not Producer
Except Allah there is no other ... Provider but through his creation
Except Allah there is no other ... Helper but helps through his creation
Except Allah there is no other ... Protector from diseases but through his creation
Except Allah there is no other ... Forgiver but not for the sins committed against other humans.
Except Allah there is no other ... Curer when I am inflicted with a diseases but through men of understanding.
Except Allah there is no other ... Producer (this is repeated)
Except Allah there is no other ... Saviour from all adversities. To whom and why?(this needs very long debate)
Except Allah there is no other ... gods for all my needs.......may be you want to say goods that is also repeated as this comes in the category of producer.

The system of submission is a long process with different steps to be passed along the way.

Basics to enter into system of submission is to Accept that God is One, One has to believe in standing before him for judgment, doing Good deeds.

Drfazal please remember that next step after one enters the system of submission(Islam) is to completely obey Allah and messenger(Rasool) at the same time. Prophets or ordinary humans alike.

Above is my understanding about the message of Quran. Quran provides information how to lead a life individually when not in power for the betterment of soul and what to do collectively to achieve power and then use the power to show the humanity practical living according to the system of God for the betterment of soul simultaneously.

In the last the verse you provided does not say prayer at all if you mean to say salat.

                          Regards.

                              Salaam,
3102 O ye who believe! Fear Allah as He should be feared, and die not except in a state of Islam.
As I understand it this is a continuous process and one must, all the time fear deviating from the right path and do all one can to preserve one's faith and die finally as a muslim.
There are so many times when ones faith is shaken for any number of reasons and often it is associated with fear so the state of muslimhood is not finalised until one dies in submission to God.

                                Dear brothers.

We are not supposed to call us muslims but to seek His Grant to Become One. This is following the foot steps of the prophets Ibrahim, Ismail and Yacub and Yusuf. Muhammad was ordained by Allah to follow only Ibrahim. And from this any one who calls himself a muslim is a kafir.

                                Let our prayers be
2 128 "Our God! make us muslims, and of our progeny a people submissive to you as muslims; and teach us how to pray; and forgive us (for our 5 times and 3 times prayer) ; for You are the Forgiver and most Merciful.?

Where in the Quran does it say that calling ourselves Muslims is a sin? What in the world are you talking about? This website has a lot of great things on it, and then it has a lot of nonsense too. Your post would be a good example of the latter.

                                  God Bless All.

Oh my God! What is with all the stupid nonsense on this website! The word Muslim, just like every word in every language, is a label! It refers to a certain group of people; Muslims are followers of Islam. Islam is a religion, the true religion. Everybody can claim to be a Muslim, but whether they are one or not is up to God. You know what, I'm not even going to argue over this matter anymore here because I think what I have to say will go in through one ear and come out the other. It's like almost everybody on this website wants to find something wrong with the Quran, or think up of some conspiracy, or something of that nature. I like to talk about different viewpoints concerning different verses and aspects of the Quran; there needs to be more serious talks about these things and less of this nonsense.

                                    Brothers in islam

Islam is the way to salam - a continuous journey towards salam; and whoso has been in peace or in salam all the while is only by God's Grace a muslim, a great endowment from Allah indeed. It is for all of us to seek in prayer "O Allah there is none but you shall Bless me with Salam, and make me live with salam, as muslim having salam. We all follow Ibrahim in this regard for Allah says Ibrahim is not the one who shall associate. And he and Ismail were in continuous prayer O God! Make us Muslims; and Teach Us How To Pray!

Next, Islam is the only way for the mankind; you may call yourself a mumin, a christian, a jew, or sabians / other religious groups; but with Allah Islam is the Way. So whoever of the above groups believe in the Way of Allah and prayerfully follows the Way to Salam, Allah shall not lessen the benefits of his efforts in the path of salam, Islam. Such of them they shall neither grieve nor fear. Such are the True Muslims.

So a true muslim does not have grief, fear and worry at all in this worldly life. Are the so called muslims have this life today? They are in such great terror; always in the grip of fear and worry and they are the aggrieved persons in the whole world. So pray to Allah, following Ibrahim and Muhammad as O God! Make us people of Salam ( muslims )! Teach us the REAL PRAYER!

Allah says if you really are muslims, then shall we make you like the terrorists, the grave sinners?

                                    068.035
Shall We then treat the muslims like the People of Sin?
                                    .

There has never been a human being in the entire history of the world who has felt absoloutely no grief, fear, or worry at all. There is no such human being now and there never will be such a human being. However, as a person gets closer and closer to God, the more grief, fear, and worry they will be able to block, no matter what situation they are in. Only God can help us, and we must put our trust in God. As a person becomes a better and better Muslim, the more easily this is done.

Fear is the most damaging feeling and it's nothing but a feeling of uncertainty in ones mind and, you are right, no one is immune from fear and our dua should always be to rid us of fear and to help us to put our trust in Allah. Its Shaitaan who induces fear which can then lead to weakness and despair.
May Allah give us courage to strive in His cause at all times.
                                        peace

                                          khyal,

Understand the essence of what I have posted; if you cannot understand never mind. Do not show your ignorance in trying to correct me. I never asked you to correct me; write something original; any body can rewrite what others say and it is not a post at all. It is you are posing to be posting. Post something of your own. God bless you.

                                          Dear drfazl,

Kindly tell me again what is the essence of what you have posted? When you use the words please try to understand what are the meanings or implications of those words. I have only tried to correct the words you used according to my understanding. If you have read my answer then tell me what is wrong with my understanding. Everyone has the right to his understanding but when you are in a debate you have to prove your point with verses, knowledge or logic. Everybody on this forum talks about Islam but without explaining clearly the reason for his understanding and thinks that he has conveyed the message.

Dear I have corrected according to my understanding where i felt you were portraying wrongly. That does not mean in any way that you were wrong or i was right. I have given my answer according to my understanding by changing the words I thought were correct and clearly marking my words in different color and if you feel that I was wrong then say so with the reason. I have told you that you posted a wrong translation without understanding what it was saying. Even after pointing it out you never bothered to check what I was trying to tell you. I was amazed that you have understood that we should not say ourselves Muslims but you did not bothered to see what the whole asking of Abraham and Ismail was. Let me show you with verses.

Literal Our Lord and make us two Moslems to you, and from our descendants, a nation submitting/surrendering/Moslems to you, and show us our rituals/methods of worship and forgive on us, that you are the forgiver, the most merciful.
Free_Minds "Our Lord, and let us submit to You and from our progeny a nation submitting to You, and show us our rites and forgive us; You are the Forgiving, the Merciful."
Khalifa "Our Lord, make us submitters to You, and from our descendants let there be a community of submitters to You. Teach us the rites of our religion, and redeem us. You are the Redeemer, Most Merciful.
Yusuf_Ali "Our Lord! make of us Muslims, bowing to Thy (Will), and of our progeny a people Muslim, bowing to Thy (will); and show us our place for the celebration of (due) rites; and turn unto us (in Mercy); for Thou art the Oft-Returning, Most
If you pay attention to the word they used in their asking was and that does not mean prayer. The same word is used in the following verse too

                                          2267

Literal To every/each nation We made/created a ritual or method of worship they are practicing the rituals or methods of worship , so they do not dispute/quarrel with you (E) in the matter/affair, and call to your Lord, that you are on (E) straight/direct guidance.
Free_Minds For every nation We have made rites which they will fulfill. So do not let the matter fall into dispute. And call upon your Lord, for you are on a guidance which is straight.
Khalifa For each congregation, we have decreed a set of rites that they must uphold. Therefore, they should not dispute with you. You shall continue to invite everyone to your Lord. Most assuredly, you are on the right path.
Yusuf_Ali To every People have We appointed rites and ceremonies which they must follow let them not then dispute with thee on the matter, but do thou invite (them) to thy Lord for thou art assuredly on the Right Way.

What they were asking was made clear in the above verse that rites(rituals) are different for each nation. I hope this post will help you in making my understanding clearer to you. Please tell me what is Prayer according to you and if possible the basics of Islam according to you.

                                          Regards.
