    Salaamun alaikum

I know this is a Qur-an Only site, the following is for visitors to consider.

The position that the so-called sunnah/hadith of The Prophet, pbuh, is necessarily supplemental/co-equal to the Qur-an and, is therefore necessary to take shahada, practice Al-Islam and to enter Paradise, is absolutely unfounded and is categorically rejected by Allah.

As with the bible, there is some wisdom/guidance to be found in the hadiths/sunnah, however, neither of these two sources of wisdom/guidance is free of error, therefore, the hadiths, as with the bible, as bodies of work, are not fully sufficient/reliable for guidance, hence, the hadiths are not necessary for one to become Muslim, to practice Al-Islam, and to enter Paradise. In addition, whatever truth/wisdom/guidance is found in the hadiths, is already detailed in Al-Qur-an anyway, so, what is the point of referring to them for guidance, it would be redundant?

If you say, as many do,.."take from the hadiths what you think is true and reject what you think is untrue", then, certainly, you must agree that the hadiths cannot be a reliable source of guidance, because anyone can accept or reject as they see fit, hence, the hadiths cannot be a source of tauhid, but only a source of ongoing fitna as they are today. Al-Qur-an, cannot be approached on an accept or reject basis, hence, it is a complete and inerrant source of guidance and tauhid. There are no descrepencies in Al-Qur-an, but there are in the hadiths. Reject that which is a source of doubt (hadith) for that which is not a source of doubt (Al-Qur-an).

    Consider the following verses.

    1. When Allah, alone, is mentioned, the hearts of those who believe not in the Hereafter are filled with disgust; but when those beside Him are mentioned, behold, they are filled with joy!

1965 The Sustainer of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them! Worship, then, Him alone, and remain steadfast in His worship! Dost thou know any whose name is worthy to be mentioned side by side with His?"

14.52 This is a sufficient exposition for the people and that they may be warned thereby, and that they may know that He is One God and that those possessed of understanding may mind.

    Main Entry ex?po?si?tion
1 a setting forth of the meaning or purpose (as of a writing) my enclosures in blue..
2 a discourse or an example of it designed to convey information or explain what is difficult to understand

8.64 O Prophet! Allah is sufficient for you and (for) such of the believers as follow you.

9.129 But if they turn back, say Allah is sufficient for me, there is no god but He; on Him do I rely, and He is the Lord of mighty power.

25.31 "And thus have We made for every prophet an enemy from among the sinners and sufficient is your Lord as a Guide and a Helper.

17.65 Surely (as for) My servants, you have no authority over them; and your Lord is sufficient as a Protector.

39.36 Is not Allah sufficient for His servant? And they seek to frighten you with those besides Him; and whomsoever Allah makes err, there is no guide for him.

39.38 And should you ask them, Who created the heavens and the earth? They would most certainly say Allah. Say Have you then considered that what you call upon besides Allah, would they, if Allah desire to afflict me with harm, be the removers of His harm, or (would they), if Allah desire to show me mercy, be the withholders of His mercy? Say Allah is sufficient for me; on Him do the reliant rely.

25.58 And rely on the Ever-living Who dies not, and celebrate His praise; and Sufficient is He as being aware of the faults of His servants.

65.3 And give him sustenance from whence he thinks not; and whoever trusts in Allah, He is sufficient for him; surely Allah attains His purpose; Allah indeed has appointed a measure for everything.

It is apparent from these above ayats that, Allah, has made it clear that He is sufficient alone, has detailed everything, leaves nothing out, needing no assistance, further clarification, etc.

    Main Entry suf?fi?cient
1 a enough to meet the needs of a situation or a proposed end.

    Main Entry 1enough

    1. occurring in such quantity, quality, or scope as to fully meet demands, needs, or expectations.
synonym see SUFFICIENT 2.1 in or to a degree or quantity that satisfies or that is sufficient or necessary for satisfaction SUFFICIENTLY

    2. 45 6. Tilka ayatu Allahi natlooha AAalayka bialhaqqi fabi-ayyi HADEETHIN baAAda Allahi waayatihi yu/minoona

45 6. Such are the Signs of Allah, which We rehearse to thee in Truth; then in what exposition will they believe after Allah and His Signs?

    1. 7185 . Awalam yanthuroo fee malakooti alssamawati waal-ardi wama khalaqa Allahu min shay-in waan AAasa an yakoona qadi iqtaraba ajaluhum fabi-ayyi HADEETHIN baAAdahu yu/minoona.

    2. Do they see nothing in the kingdom of the heavens and the earth and all that Allah hath created? (Do they not see) that it may well be that their terms is nigh drawing to an end? In what message after this will they then believe?

      1. Fabi-ayyi HADEETHIN baAAdahu yu/minoona
    3. Then what Message, after that, will they believe in?

      1. Allahu nazzala ahsana alHADEETHIN kitaban mutashabihan mathaniya taqshaAAirru minhu juloodu allatheena yakhshawna rabbahum thumma taleenu julooduhum waquloobuhum ila thikri Allahi thalika huda Allahi yahdee bihi man yashao waman yudlili Allahu fama lahu min hadin
    4. Allah has revealed (from time to time) the most beautiful Message in the form of a Book, consistent with itself, (yet) repeating (its teaching in various aspects) the skins of those who fear their Lord tremble thereat; then their skins and their hearts do soften to the remembrance of Allah. Such is the guidance of Allah. He guides therewith whom He pleases, but such as Allah leaves to stray, can have none to guide.

      1. Wamina alnnasi man yashtaree lahwa alHADEETHI liyudilla AAan sabeeli Allahi bighayri AAilmin wayattakhithaha huzuwan ola-ika lahum AAathabun muheenun
    5. But there are, among men, those who purchase idle tales, without knowledge (or meaning), to mislead (men) from the Path of Allah and throw ridicule (on the Path) for such there will be a humiliating Chastisement.

      1. Falya/too biHADEETHIN mithlihi in kanoo sadiqeena
    6. Let them then produce a saying like unto it,- If (it be) they speak the truth!

Clearly, no hadith, other than that of Allah's, Qur-an Karriem, is authorized by Him. What is there to question after this? Now, I ask you, please post from the Qur-an any verse which contradicts the above ayats/verses, thank you.

    Ten questions to consider

1.Are the hadiths, Bukhari/Muslim, error/mistake free. Yes or no.

    1. I have Al-qur-an and you have Al-Qur-an and the hadith, who is better guided, you or me?

    2. Show me Allahu Akbar in Al-Qur-an, that is, where does Allah define Himself as Al-Akbar. Is it there? Yes or No.

    3. Show me the term RAKA and WUDU in Al-Qur-an. Are they there? Yes or no.

    4. In a dispute, which body of work takes precedence over the other, Al-Qur-an over the hadith or the hadith over Al-Qur-an?

    5. Is there ONE ayat where Allah mentions His name, Allah, and Muhammad, in the same sentance. Yes or NO?

    6. Did the Prophet or the Sahaba, ever supervise and give their ok as to what was eventually compiled in their name? so how do you know what is truly...FACT?

    7. Do you see any aya telling us to accept any "books", plural? Allah, sent His BOOK, singular.

    8. Do you really believe that Allah sent us an error free Book, Al-Qur-an for guidance, just so we turn around, consult, and take the error filled writings of Bukhari and Muslim for guidance? In that, the hadith are not error-free, then, they MUST and, have at times, contradicted Al-Qur-an! For example, the punishment for adultery. Is it stoning or lashes?

    9. Didn't the Prophet, whom, you say you adore and follow, tell you to leave what IS doubtful for that which is NOT doubtful? Why don't you obey him then and reject the DOUBTFUL hadiths?

I and others, are often referred to as....Quranists (and of course Islamists), as if that is something abhorrent, which, of course it is, to the Shirkists.

Look at what Merriam Webster has to say about the suffix--"ist"

    Main Entry 1-ist

One that adheres to or advocates a (specified) doctrine or system or code of behavior or that of a (specified) individual.

Hmmm...isn't that interesting. Clearly, then, those who advocate Al-Qur-an only are guilty of being Quranists, because we are advocates of, as Allah, has commanded, His Book, The Final Revelation, which in It is no doubt or contradiction, fully expalined/detailed, sufficient and enough. For nearly two hundred years the Muslims didn't us any hadith, so, were they good Muslims seeing how they had no hadiths to refer to? Was their Din therefore incomplete? It is obvious that the early ummah and for the following two hundered years were Quranists.

AGAIN....1965 the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them! Worship, then, Him alone, and remain steadfast in His worship! Dost thou know any whose name is worthy to be mentioned..... side by side with His?"

The following will separate the frauds from the sincere. Read and see which category YOU fall into.

37 He it is Who has sent down to thee the Book
In it are verses basic or fundamental (of established meaning); they are the foundation of the Book others are allegorical.
But those in whose hearts is perversity follow the part thereof that is allegorical, seeking discord, and searching for its hidden meanings, but no one knows its hidden meanings except God. And those who are firmly grounded in knowledge say "We believe in the Book; the whole of it is from our Lord" and none will grasp the Message except men of understanding.

Now, what does the highlighted passage mean?

OK, let's move on. I know, that's a hard one.

2131 Behold! his Lord said to him
"Bow (thy will to Me)" He said "I bow (my will) to the Lord and Cherisher of the Universe."

What does the highlighted passages mean? Now, here's a hard question. What is the Arabic term for someone who bows/submits their will to Allah?

    Let's continue.

2177 It is not righteousness that ye turn your faces Towards east or West; but it is righteousness- to believe in God and the Last Day, and the Angels, and the Book, and the Messengers; to spend of your substance, out of love for Him, for your kin, for orphans, for the needy, for the wayfarer, for those who ask, and for the ransom of slaves; to be steadfast in prayer, and practice regular charity; to fulfil the contracts which ye have made; and to be firm and patient, in pain (or suffering) and adversity, and throughout all periods of panic. Such are the people of truth, the God-fearing.

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

    Asr 103

    1. By the Time,

    2. Verily Man is in loss,

    3. Except such as have Faith, and do righteous deeds, and (join together) in the mutual enjoining of Truth, and of Patience and Constancy.

    And finally...

    1. If any do deeds of righteousness,- be they male or female - and have faith, they will enter Heaven, and not the least injustice will be done to them.

Now, apply the above information to the following scenario.

Some friends and I went camping in the backwoods/Ozark region of Tennessee. On the way home I discovered that I left my bookbag behind containing my Qur-an (no hadiths). Some people who live there happened to stumble upon my bookbag and Qur-an. Now, I have three questions for you, upon reading the Qur-an, would it be sufficient/enough for them to know how to

    1. Take shahada?

    2. Practice this Din/Al-Islam?

    3. Enter Paradise?

    YES OR NO?

This is not the whole story. The Qur'aan calls the Tawrah, Zaboor and Injeel AS WELL AS the "Furqaan" by the singular name "Kitaab Allaah."

It's important not to distort by taking aayaat out of context of the other aayaat.

      Salaam

Thats because he started the topic saying the Injeel is no longer a book of guidance. Now, is that what Koran actually says? This is a contentious issue here especially for those who have prior beliefs. Also the hadiths have given us a complex about narrations which is what many verses of the previous scriptures are like. But I believe the Koran is talking about the religious aspects of the previous scriptures and not its narratives. I think also its important to add that while the Talmud is an oral traditions which jesus and even the Koran condemned some of its excessive religious doctrines, the Koran did confirm some Talmudic narratives like Abraham and the fire and Solomon and the Hudhud and Gahanam(hell fire). Also some stories in Moses like the the raising of the Mountain during the covenant. So I guess we can say at the minimum we must not accept hadiths that CONTRADICT the Koran and take hadith as voluntary and not compulsory but take our core religious understanding from the Koran. This is a more mature outlook, I think.

          Peace all
I believe the hadith should be only used as a historical reference about the life of Mohammad (pbuh) and his companians .
And I don't personaly have anything against using the hadith(If it did not contradict the Qu'ran most importantly ) as like words of wisdom ...
Hadith is just part of history and it should regarded as such nothing more or less.

          Peace,
          Respectfully.

I also think that hadith are some sort of history and i don't use them as historical reference because things get out of hand and people start tkaing history as the law, as we have seen with the sunnis.

          I follow only The Quran.

          Glory be to our God,
          Glory be to our God.
          Peace.

Exactly, and this is the consensus we all should agree upon. I also recently stated that the hadiths are haram because they state many things that are complete opposities to what is stated in the Quran. They would then be labeled as blasphemous "hadith".

The opening poster deserves a pat on the back for that. However that was back in 2003...wow.

I think you either misunderstood this forum and this thread, or you are here for your own agenda. We highly respect all messengers of God, including Muhammad, and we believe in what has been revealed to him. Not accepting the hadith claimed to be from him is not synonymous to being disrespectful of him.
Having said that, this forum does not tolerate any mocking of God or of any of his messengers, whether written by a poster or included in a link (Rule 2). This post of you is a repeat. Repeat posting is in breach of rule 8
