Salat confusion

I referred you to the occurrences of the word you wish to research as found in The Quran. This is the starting point.
I assume you are coming at salat thinking it means ABC, involves XYZ etc. and when you look at The Quran, you become confused because it does not say ABC or have XYZ. Why do you think that is?

And you're right, that is why I'm confused. Salat is referred to loads of times in the Quran, so it must be important, but it doesn't say much about how we do it. Just want to make sure that I am doing it right. -

Are you serious?!!! There is tons of information about salat in Al Quran. In fact, if you studied all the info in it about salat, it would take you at least a few weeks to digest it all. Here is a good starting point

I know, thats why I said it is mentioned loads of times. What I mean is that there isn't a step by step guide to performing salat in the Quran. Standing, kneeling and prostrating is mentioned, which validates the traditional method of salat, which is what I am doing now, but there are a few people on this site who claim to perform salat differently as they say that salat means different things in the Quran.

I think we were all confused in the begining, but Hamdoulah/Praise to God, with the help of all the brothers here, even if some interpretations are totally opposite, one can make his/her own idea.
Yes sunni way to pray is valid, I still do it same way without the "Amine" at the end of el fatiha, and without the "salat ala nabi (tahiya)".
I am convinced Coran mention 3 salats, but still can pray 5 when I can (e.g. week-ends).Hope it helps

If you are all confused about 'how to perform your ritual prayers' or what is commonly called "salat" then why not learn about it first from the Qur'an ? I am sure that you have all read or know about 1736 .......So before we do anything that we think of as good deeds and a command from god , shouldn't we first learn all about it ? Let's see what the verse says .
" And follow not that of which you have not the knowledge; surely the hearing and the sight and the heart, all of these, shall be questioned about that " (1736 ) .
As to the the reason why we perform 'Salat' is ....this verse
" Surely I am Allah, there is no god but I, therefore serve Me and keep up prayer for My remembrance " ( 2014 ) .
The verse is clear enough to understand that 'Salat' is for rememberance of god , however it does not tell us how to perform this supposedly "ritual prayers" , so for me , the best course to take is study about 'what salat is all about first' from the Qur'an , before I would do it . To continue doing salat as per "Pre-Qur'anic" knowledge " of it is not consistent with the purpose of learning The Qur'an , obeying god and following what the messenger himself followed , e.g. the qur'an .
My own experience when I switched from being a " Muhammadan" to god only according to Qur'an was , I suspended performing the ritual prayers until I could be certain that everything I read during ritual salat was 100% Qur'an and consistent with this verse
" Recite that which has been revealed to you of the Book and keep up prayer; surely prayer keeps (one) away from indecency and evil, and certainly the remembrance of Allah is the greatest, and Allah knows what you do " ( 2945 ) .
I think that the best thing to do while you are 'confused' is to discard all the previous knowledge acquired through brain washing and start fresh with your newly self-acquired knowledge from The Qur'an and your understanding of it , after all you are the one who will be responsible to god for your own actions / deeds .

Contact prayer means having to maintain contact with Allah all the time through His Remembrance for His Bounties, for His Forgiveness, for His Wisdom, for His Provision, for His Peace, for His ... endless Mercy
You do not make a mockery of salat by following the people; what the people follow is a physical one as if they physically have contact with Allah whenever they stand for prayer. Never follow the people of yesterday, today or tomorrow. Never follow the majority; even 2 is majority. So each of you stand all alone with Allah without committing shirk following the damned imams; follow only Allah; this is getting in connection with Allah for all our needs; and we are in need all the time! This is contact prayer.

Because we are trying to breakaway from traditionalism and follow the Quran alone but everyone here has their own understanding of what salat is. Some of us, including myself, are newbies so we haven't studied the Quran and don't know where to start and would appreciate some help.
At the mo, I am still praying traditionally except I don't use the prophet Mohammed's name, I say the God-alone shahada instead of the tashahud and I only read al-fatiha as I do not know any other surahs that can be read to God (I mean reading "Lo! We have given thee Abundance" to God seems strange) -

,you cannot get the actual Salaat way ,consult some expert. Eat two -three almonds daily. Massage of almond oil on the head will also help.
