I also came back in this to say that Shakir is not the most accurate, and I can argue about this now because I just happened to find another instance of pure...

I was looking through this and read that Shakir wrote "gave to Dawood" instead of "gave to Dawood psalms" http//www.searchtruth.com/chapter_display.php?chapter=4&translator=3&mac=
But my home copy shows "pslams" in it. Plus as you can see in the link there's no period at the end so it's obviously an e-typo. That or my computer is screwy again.
Anyway a side note, it's interesting how traditional muslims view musical instruments (and music in general) as haram when the Quran says that David was given Pslams and even in the "divine" hadith it says something similar.
Narrated Abu Musa that the Prophet said to him' "O Abu Musa! You have been given one of the musical wind-instruments of the family of David.'"
The only thing that fights music, in the traditional muslim world, is hadith that conflict with the one above and brainless scholars who misinterpret verses from the Quran to make people lives hell.

Sadly has a lot of mistranslations. Pickthal, Yusuf Ali, and Monshin Khan's versions are alike, but Shakir's for some reason, has many (disturbing) mistranslations.
For example, he translates "khimar" in 2431 to "head coverings". As if placing "head coverings" over your breasts makes sense. This is an example showing how hadith makes you a retard.
He also translates "Ihda" in 7435 to "misfortunes", when all other versions, including Khalifa's, translates it to "signs" or "miracles".
There are of course many others, but this is why I'm not reading Shakir's anymore. Apparently, Shakir is the only English Quran translator that either didn't know Arabic or English to well. I believer the latter is right.
Yusuf Ali I think was an Ahmedi while Shakir seems more Salafi oriented. All of them translate verses based on Sunni interpretation regardless. Like they way the say first, then and finally beat them lightly. Something taht does not exist in the Arabic original version. They also say captives of war regarding Ma Malakat Aymanukum, also something thats does not exist in the Arabic version.

MMA translated literally is right hands possess.
They are mentioned a few times in the Quran. I think you're thinkning of the verse telling you who you can marry. Its supposedly someone who is not quite your wife so you can't have sex with her, I think. I've read too many opinions on the issue so I am not entirely sure what MMA is and can't give you a definite answer. -
