dress code on the beach

Well, I think it's up to everyone to choose what to wear on the beach.
Depends on the aim. If part of the aim is to follow Al Quran then how can it be up to everyone to choose?
IF part of the aim is not to follow Al Quran, then yes, it is up to everyone to choose.

inevitably we all choose what we want. your suggestion of a bikini might work in some areas of the world in which the social construction says bikini is the thing to wear at a beach but not all places are like this. Also as people become aware of other people's beliefs and cultures they recognise the clothing as part of identity and do not look out of place. it's all about perceptions and social constructions..

If the beach goers lower their gaze to the ankles , they wouldn't even notice what other people are wearing

I understand "lower their gaze" as idiomatic. It simply means not to stare at women the whole time and so on. It doesnt mean to physically lower their gaze. Otherwise you'd be walking around with your head facing downwards the whole time!

I think the lowering of the gaze can be physically done
I'll give you an example imagine you saw a really attractive guy/girl and you like unconsciously starred at them. IF you thought of lowering your gaze maybe instantly you would look down and distract your thoughts.
i don't mean you look down all the time but maybe you would lower your gaze initially and then be off to walking normally.

I think , we would draw more un-welcome attention/stare if we were to dress differently from other beach goers , and it all depends on our intention for going to the beach . Personally , I am more comfortable in a speedo at the beach , better for swimming ;D

C'mon guys, freedom means choice. We should be allowed to wear what we want. I don't want my choice of clothes to be dictated by others. -
I wouldn't wear a bikini, it would bear too much skin and doesn't exactly cover the breasts. and because i try follow Quran i'd say it's inappropriate. but you all have the choice to wear what you want. but my understanding of Quran and my acceptance of following it "dictates" what i wear. besides i'd become a stronger swimmer swimming even though it would be easier to swim in a speedo/bikini

Since you swim fully covered, have you checked out those "Islamic" swimsuits? (i.e. Burquini, Ahiida, Splashgear) They would be less heavy than wearing your clothes & scarf in the water, and I believe safer for you. -
Yeh i've seen them they're expensive
i'm a strong swimmer alhamdulillah besides it's not like i'm going 20m deep into the ocean so it's ok
also my bro and sis have a pool, so i don't always have to be fully covered, just in publicSalam

The tradition of wearing the veil (by women) and the headcover (by men) was then adopted by the Jews who wrote it in the Talmud (Talmud equals the Hadiths and Sunna, neither are the words of God) then the Christians adopted the same. A well respected Rabbi once explained to a group of Jewish young women, "We do not find a direct command in the Torah mandating that women cover their heads, but we do know that this has been the continuing custom for thousands of years." After the prophet Muhammad's death , the writers of the hadith books adopted and encouraged the ancient tradition of head covering. Hadith book' writers took after the Jews as they did with many other traditions , and alleged them to the prophet since the Quran did not command it.
Any student of the Jewish traditions or religious books will see that head cover for the Jewish woman (and men) has been encouraged by the Rabbis and religious leaders. Observant Jewish women still cover their heads most of the time and specially in the synagogues, weddings, and religious festivities.
Christian women cover their heads in many religious occasions while the nuns cover their heads all the time.
The Quran doesnt say that women have to cover their hair. Give me one Quranic verse that proves such a thing, if you think you are right.

So if I was to follow the prophet in everything including wearing Arabic clothing ? What about my following "the Sunnah" of the prophet by having many wives ? ( some says 9 wives , others say more ) , I wish.......... ;D

I love summer we have the best beaches here in Austalia and I wear a one piece pair of bathers. I have a good figure so yea but I would go for the enjoyment of the sun with plenty of sunscrean on and a pair of sunnies. and a nice bannana smoothie MMMMMMMM. on and a hat and thongs on my feet as the sand gets hot ouch.
