Do you mean if we are commanded to tell the truth, this does not mean tellying a lie is not haraam, because "the qur'aan did not say so"? Or if the qur'aan condemns the liars, it is not exactly saying "lying is haraam"?

ok i should mention also depends on situation.
i was put a few times in a position where telling the truth would cause someone pain(emotional)... so i lied, yes, but the intention was good, so i don't see how it could be haram.
there's a grey area.

Not telling the truth is not the equivalent of telling a lie.

This is just my personal opinion on the subject of lying to make other people feel good.

I always feel it is an invitation to help people live lies, to live "deaf, dumb, and blind". Besides, I may feel your style is horrible and someone else may feel your style is great and you may think your style is okay.

Now if you guys want to argue whether lying is haraam or not please do not add to or delete from what God says. Bring the proof and argue your points.

To mark things Haram and Halal is a dangerous business, as per 16116 we cannot assign things Haram and Halal. So in my opinion if Quran states about something "do not do it" "abstain from it" "refrain from it" "donot go near It" they all stand in the category of "non doer". So one should not lie per Quran, and the ayah 2230 is clear enough.

Long dead thread but here's what I believe

Lying is a bad deed if you do it to deceive and harm people.
Lying is not a bad deed lets say if your a teen and someone asks you if you like that girl and you definitely don't want to know and if you just don't want to reply they'll realize its true so you gotta lie.
