Isn't this kind of saying if no name AT ALL wasn't mentioned, it's haram?

First the animal has a gun pointed to the side of the head in which a long peice (4 inches I think) of metal is fired and then retracted (this apparently kills the brain so animal can not feel any pain), at this point the animal is hoysted into the air by its back legs and throat is slit and left hanging for blood to drain. This whole process takes seconds, non of the waiting animals are allowed to witness the process, its a very efficient conveyer belt opperation. Question if animals are killed in this manner, will you say it is ok for muslims to eat or is it Haram?

If Hunting is allowed killing animal in that manner is also allowed.
Personally I don?t see any problem in that if God name is mentioned before slitting the animal throat.

Many will misguide you by their desires without knowledge as mentioned above. From this we can conclude that saying 'In the name of God, the Almighty, the Merciful' will mean we have mentioned Gods name over what we eat. It must also be noted that this does not mean only meat we eat but what ever we eat or drink we shall mention Gods name.

As I don?t exactly know what this means I am having trouble trying to figure it out. Maybe someone will help us. It could mean one of the following but please do your own research and do not take my word for it

Who might argue with you if you eat halal food or not? The answer is probably friends or family who eat halal meat only.

I think it soeaks about meat only.

Eat not of which Allah's name hath not been pronounced That would be impiety. But the evil ones ever inspire their friends to contend with you if ye were to obey them, ye would indeed be Mushrikun. (Quran 6121)

It is clear from the above verse that the meat upon which Allah's name has not been pronounced is not allowed to be eaten. Not only that, the severity of this act is so high that it was told in this verse to the Muslims that if they consumed the food on which Allah's name has not been pronounced, it would be considered "fisq" and they would be as if they had turned Mushrikun. It would be a serious error to ignore this verse and interpret 55 independently of it.

This day are (all) things good and pure made lawful unto you. The food of the People of the Book is lawful unto you and yours is lawful unto them.(Quran 55) eat

I assume methods 3, 4, and 5 are not used in commercial slaughtering of animals. (I mean, who runs a slaughterhouse that pushes cattle off a cliff? ? )

The common practice in Muslim countries is the so-called halal slaughtering, which is slitting the throat and letting the blood flow out. This is safe.

In western countries I think they electrocute cattle, sheep and goats. Insofar as death by electrocution is not considered as any of those five forbidden techniques above, then I believe it's still halal. Anyway, it is quite hard to slaughter livestock by strangling or beating though.

Chickens are usually slaughtered either by slitting the throat (at least that's what I've been told by a chicken farmer) or gassing. So it's safe too. It is easy to strangle or beat a chicken to death, but I don't know if any chicken slaughterhouse preferred these two methods over the cleaner ones mentioned earlier.

So I guess as long as it's not carrion, pork, or blood, it's halal. Just offering my thought, sis Khadija. I hope this is useful.

Do we mention the name of God before we eat the animal that has been slaughtered without mentioning the name of God.
Must we do both?

Now we can see what are unlawful that has been detailed in AlQuraan. Please have a look at 2173, 53, 6145 & 16115 as follows

"He has only made unlawful for you that which is already dead, and the blood, and the meat of pig, and what was dedicated with to other than Allah. But whoever is forced to, without seeking disobedience or transgression, then there is no sin upon him. Allah is Forgiving, Merciful." 2173

If you look closely, inshaAllah, you will find it is all about meat or animals. The most beautiful part of these verses are "Allah is Forgiver, Merciful" in all the 4 verses, Alhamdulillah. You can understand why this has been mentioned. Then, in the very next aayat i.e., 16116, there comes a warning

"And do not say, as to what your tongues falsely describe ?This is lawful and that is unlawful;? that you seek to invent lies about Allah. Those who invent lies about Allah will not succeed." 16116

I hope inshaAllah, the animal is clear. If it is not clear enough, then lets take another look at 6118, 6119 & 6121, inshaAllah.

If you think that these aayaats are referring to all foods, it is not possible for everyone to survive in this world. I live in India, here grains, seeds, cereals, vegetables, fruits, all has been cut with Pooja on the day of harvest. The farmers do some rituals in the name of their Hindu gods before they cut it. In such case, people living in India has to grow their own food. Because, as it is said in 6119?

It does not mean that you can take the name of Allah on any food and have it. But the name of Allah has to be taken by someone on it, because, we cannot grow our own foods, fruits, veggies, etc. then slaughtering animal ourself, which is not possible for every person. Nor you can eat anything dead, which is already Haraam, just by taking Allah name on it by yourself.

Now how to take Allah's name on them? 2236 & 37 may help us understand the procedure, inshaAllah.

"And the plump livestock, We have made them for you to be among the symbols of Allah; you will have benefit in them. So mention the name of Allah upon them in succession; then, once their sides have become still, you may eat from them and feed with them the poor and the needy. It was thus that We have made them in service to you, that you may be thankful." 2236

"Neither their meat nor their blood reaches Allah, but what reaches Him is the righteousness from you. It was thus that He made them in service to you, so that you may glorify Allah for what He has guided you to, and give news to the good doers." 2237

Again taking the name of Allah is clearly mentioned in 2236 that only refer to animals. To clarify more we will have a look at 6141 in comparison with 2236.

"And He is the One Who initiated gardens; both trellised and untrellised; and palm trees, and plants, all with different taste; and olives and pomegranates, similar and not similar. Eat from its fruit when it blossoms and give its due on the day of harvest; and do not waste. He does not like the wasteful." 6141

If you notice, giving its due on the day of harvest is mentioned, but taking or mentioning the name of Allah on it on the day of harvest is not said. It may clear the picture that taking name of Allah is said only on animals.

I think the Quran is stating that an animal must be slaughtered with a sharp knife along the neck mentioning God's name. Qur'an 2236, Qur'an 53

That God's name be mentioned at slaughter and mentioned before eating any food. Qur'an 54, Qur'an 6118-119, Qur'an 6121

That the animals that have died through goring, blows, strangling or falls, or that have died on their own are definitely off limits. Qur'an 53, Qur'an 6145

That food that is dedicated to someone or something other than God at slaughter or on the table is off limits. Qur'an 2173

That the blood from the flows through veins and arteries cannot be consumed. Qur'an 2173, Qur'an 6145

That pig meat cannot be consumed. Qur'an 2173, Qur'an 6145

We can eat what our own animals of prey catch/kill when we are hunting. Qur'an 54

What we eat must be good and pure (This implies that our food be natural and even 'organic'. To me that means no unnatural chemicals, grassfed ruminants and chicken that eat a natural diet of grass, bugs and natural seed. Qur'an 54
