BONE PHOSPHATE - E542 An anti-caking agent made from the degreased steam-extract from animal bones.

COCHINEAL/CARMINE - E120, E122 A red dyestuff consisting of dried bodies of female cochineal insects. Note E124 Ponceau 4R is acceptable although it is sometimes known as Cochineal Red A.

L-CYSTEINE A flavour and improving agent manufactured from animal hair and chicken feathers.

MAGNESIUM STEARATE May be made from animal fat. Often found in medicines.

RENNET (ANIMAL) An enzyme taken from the stomach of a newly killed calf used in the cheese making process. Vegetarian cheese is produced using microbial or fungal enzymes, or chymosin.

VANILLA EXTRACT Vanilla is a plant product. It is extracted with alcohol as the solvent of choice, from the vanilla bean and is normally kept in a solution containing alcohol. If you examine at a bottle of vanilla extract, you will find it lists alcohol as an ingredient, along with the percentage of alcohol.

WHEY During cheese making, a coagulum is formed by clotting milk with rennet. When the coagulum is cut, a watery liquid known as whey is released and drained off leaving the curd to be salted and further processed into cheese. Whey contains water, fat, protein, lactose, minerals and lactic acid. Cream, butter, cheese, drinks, syrups and powder are some of the products made from whey.

          salaam,

Why the mockery of farida? He/she is not making totally unreasonable posts. He/she is making a point or asking a question based upon a specific bit or revelation. Instead, deal with it like you don't have some pet belief to lose.

          To farida -

          • Define exactly what you understand by the portion from 2173, "dedicated to other than Allah".
          • If you order a pizza, they may have your name on the order, the pizza will be made just for you, as you want it. Would you eat it?

I want to know exactly what your understanding is before I discuss more.

          To afridi220 -

Why don't you make an effort to categorise the ingredients in that list? Use logic and some research, you will be able to decide.

          Salaam

Have you got that list from a sunni site?
The list is just fanatical, or may be worth pondering for health freaks, I don't care much about all this, to me wine sauce or gelatine is okay as it excludes pigs meat(ONLY MEAT OF PIG IS HARAM) and wine is burned in cooking process .

Please read my previous posts to understand my position. I am quite comfortable with my feelings about the birthday cake issue and comparing it to pizza or any other specially prepared food is, IMO taking it to extremes.

Um..ok...I thought that eating meat is ok someone mentions a name OTHER than God, right?

6121 And do not eat from that which the Name of God has not been mentioned, for it is wickedness.

Isn't this kind of saying if no name AT ALL wasn't mentioned, it's haram?

You yourself have to mention God's name upon everything that you eat.

                          Peace brothers and sisters

My dad used to tell me a story that many years ago in Turkey Imams used to say, "if you do a kurbani then the head and the skin should be donated to the mosque or your kurbani will not be accepted by God." Moral of the story, always do your research or something like that )

I have seen cattle being slortered in the slorter houses here in UK. The process is very quick. First the animal has a gun pointed to the side of the head in which a long peice (4 inches I think) of metal is fired and then retracted (this apparently kills the brain so animal can not feel any pain), at this point the animal is hoysted into the air by its back legs and throat is slit and left hanging for blood to drain. This whole process takes seconds, non of the waiting animals are allowed to witness the process, its a very efficient conveyer belt opperation. Question if animals are killed in this manner, will you say it is ok for muslims to eat or is it Haram?

                          Peace

                          Hope

Personally I don?t see any problem in that if God name is mentioned before slitting the animal throat.

made unlawful; except what you are forced to? Many misguide by
their desires without knowledge; your Lord is fully aware of the
                                        transgressors.

Many will misguide you by their desires without knowledge as mentioned above. From this we can conclude that saying 'In the name of God, the Almighty, the Merciful' will mean we have mentioned Gods name over what we eat. It must also be noted that this does not mean only meat we eat but what ever we eat or drink we shall mention Gods name.

6121 And do not eat from that which the name of God has not been
mentioned, for it is wickedness. And the devils they inspire their
supporters to argue with you; and if you obey them, then you are
                                        polytheists.

From 6121 as can be seen it mentions ?and the devils they inspire their supporters to argue with you; and if they obey them, then you are polytheists?. As I don?t exactly know what this means I am having trouble trying to figure it out. Maybe someone will help us. It could mean one of the following but please do your own research and do not take my word for it

                                        1. Who might argue with you if you eat halal food or not? The answer is probably friends or family who eat halal meat only.
                                        2. Or people who argue with you who do not eat halal meat saying that everything except for what has been mentioned is halal providing you say BismiLLAH.

May God guide us in the right path.

I think it soeaks about meat only.

Eat not of which Allah's name hath not been pronounced That would be impiety. But the evil ones ever inspire their friends to contend with you if ye were to obey them, ye would indeed be Mushrikun. (Quran 6121)

It is clear from the above verse that the meat upon which Allah's name has not been pronounced is not allowed to be eaten. Not only that, the severity of this act is so high that it was told in this verse to the Muslims that if they consumed the food on which Allah's name has not been pronounced, it would be considered "fisq" and they would be as if they had turned Mushrikun. It would be a serious error to ignore this verse and interpret 55 independently of it.

This day are (all) things good and pure made lawful unto you. The food of the People of the Book is lawful unto you and yours is lawful unto them.(Quran 55) eat
