If you take it that far, then we would have "altered" God's creation when we step on mud, grass, etc.

I am no longer a Sunna-rejecter. See 4:59-65, 62:2-4, 3:31, 4:156, 7:157 Messenger teaches and is to be followed and obeyed. Examples of revelation received which is not in the Qur'an: 3:123-126, 33:37, 2:187, 66:3, 62:9.

Indeed Rev. My taking a bite out of that apple and tossing it away is an alteration, the development of fossil fuels, all kinds of things. God creates you with a genetic disorder, should one cure it, et cetera.

cosmetic surgery... in most cases the reasons behind it are not good and that is the bad part, not the actual surgery. lets look at other surgeries, if someone needs brain surgery, heart surgery, kidney transplant... it can all be considered altering God's creeation as God created it in a way it got damaged and who are we to have surgeries and try to save humans... we should let them die, right... because surgeries=altering=satan's work

            Peace,
            Respectfully.

Brian surgery, heart surgery and so on, ar enot alterations, they're to correct it from bad to good, back again.
            Nothing sinister there.

            Peace.

              Muse asked

How do you understand the verse 4119, in which Iblis says that he shall command men to "alter Allah's creation"?

              Dear Muse,
Very interesting thought, indeed. So I looked at Allama Mauwdudi's Tafheemul Qur'an (http//www.islamicstudies.info/tafheem.php?sura=4&verse=116&to=126). He starts well, but it seems your question as to what constitutes 'Satanic changes' to God's creation, is NOT yet fully answered. Here's the quote

"To alter God's creation in some respect does not mean changing its original form. If that was meant, human civilization would have to be considered Satanic in its entirety. For civilization consists essentially of man's putting to use the resources endowed by God. Hence the alteration of God's creation, which is characterized as Satanic, consists in using a thing not for the purpose for which it was created by God. In other words, all acts performed in violation either of one's true nature or of the intrinsic nature of other things are the result of the misleading promptings of Satan. These include, for instance, sodomy, birth control, monasticism, celibacy, sterilization of either men or women, turning males into eunuchs, diverting females from the functions entrusted to them by nature and driving them to perform the functions for which men were created. These and numerous similar measures are enacted by Satan's disciples in this world, which amounts on their part, to saying that the laws of the Creator were faulty and that they would like to 'reform' them."

And here's what Muhammad Asad explains
              (at http//www.islamicbulletin.org/free_downloads/quran/quran_asad.pdf)

The pre-Islamic Arabs used to dedicate certain of their cattle to one
or another of their idols by cutting off or slitting the ears of the animal, which was
thereupon considered sacred (Tabari). In the above context, this reference is used
metonymically to describe idolatrous practices, or inclinations, in general. The allusion
to Satan's inducing man to "corrupt God's creation" has a meaning to
which sufficient attention is but seldom paid Since this creation, and the manner in
which it manifests itself, is an expression of God's planning will, any attempt at
changing its intrinsic nature amounts to corruption

Insha-Allah, I will also try to think myself.

              Regards, Rafiqul

That makes very good sense... Now let's see... My ears are made for hearing... How can I "alter their creation"? By listening to bad things, like gossip maybe? My mouth is for speaking... Speaking the truth... Because if I were to divert them from their true purpose, then I would speak lies. My eyes are made for contemplating Allah's creation, for example. The opposite would be to look at bad things or things I shouldn't be looking at, such as spying... By going against my own nature, I am actually going against Allah and following Satan instead.

Is anybody following the same train of thought as me? choo choo

That's a very beautiful explanation, indeed. It's a pleasant surprise that great scholars could not pen it the way Muse has done. May Alla s.w.t reward you, Muse, for sharing your pearls of thought, ameen!

The Qur'an will keep unfolding itself with time. In 1989, I came to know 'water from sky' has another source the outer space. In the form of tiny ice particles... Now there is more information on it (e.g., http//www.jstor.org/stable/4018314. Dr. Naqvi, a NASA scientist who designed the electrical system of the Lunar Module that carried Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin to land on the moon in 1969, fist revealed in his book (I don't remember the title) in that I had read. Being an enlightened Muslim, he suggested that the meaning of Allah saying 'revealing' rain from sky could also mean the snow-balls the size of a house that are constantly bombarding the earth. Only last week, there was another new scientific discovery, that even the CLOUDS are being formed by the collision of water vapor with cosmic rays (http//public.web.cern.ch/public/en/Research/CLOUD-en.html). And the source of iron on earth has long been identified with meteors... that rings in mind the verse in Sura Hadeed (The Iron) when Alla s.w.t. says "And we have revealed iron..." (the word 'anjalna' in Arabic). Subhanallah!

                        Salam,

How do you understand the verse 4119, in which Iblis says that he shall command men to "alter Allah's creation"? The majority of traditional Muslims believe that altering Allah's creation consists in cosmetic surgery, tattooing, parting or filing the teeth, plucking the eyebrows, et cetera.
If somebody will also explain "and they will cut the cattle' ears", I would be very grateful.

PICKTHAL "And surely I will lead them astray, and surely I will arouse desires in them, and surely I will command them and they will cut the cattle' ears, and surely I will command them and they will change Allah's creation. Whoso chooseth Satan for a patron instead of Allah is verily a loser and his loss is manifest."

                        Thank you,

                        Muse

Regarding the cut the cattle' ears, in some muslim countries, when there is a wedding and someone is jalous/against/just want to create troubles, they make the husband eating "donkey's ear" without him knowing, and that disable his "sexual capabilities" the night of the wedding which leads to problems for the famillies and so on and so on...
This is not unusual and is one of the many technics of "voodoo" they use, I am sure jewish knows very well these technics too.

                        regards

                        ps nice interpretation you did

                              Khalaq/creation

                              2050 has the answer

He said "Our Lord is the One who gave everything* its creation/khalaq, then guided."

So, could changing the creation be something that is not a physical act? I am referring to the guidance part. This fits better with 4119 imo. Marking the ears of livestock is a physical act and is mentioned specifically. Wouldn't it be redundant to mention change of creation again? In fact, ghayrun/change is used exclusively for changing one's perception (1311 for instance).

*Note 'kulla shee' quranically speaking refers to something animate. See 2130 for example.

                              Thoughts?

The "distortion" is the statement by satan that He will command those who listen to him to distort the religion which got has deemed for man. The distortions of Gods law that you see practised today is proof that many do not believe in the creation (Quran) of God. This is a statement of faith, not material that is why the end of the ayat reads "Anyone who accepts the devil as a lord, instead of GOD, has incurred a profound loss." I hope this explanation is helpful.

                                Peace.
