The verse is telling us that women are actually allowed to show off some of their attraction. Notice the underlined and especially the bold. "Except what is apparent OF IT" clearly shows this and rfutes all claims that women have to be covered from head to toe.

I remember watching this a while ago, and thinking kind of how stuck-up (kind of like holier-than-thou) the hijabi lady was acting, kind of like she was better... I didn't get that same vibe from the niqabi or lady with no hijab.
Strange. Anyone else get the same impression?
And then when the hijabi lady was saying that it does say you have to cover your hair in the Qur'an the non-hijabi was kind of knocked off-guard...
I just don't understand how so many people insist that it says "cover your hair" in the Qur'an.
I can understand how someone can say it's implied, if you want to go the route of saying that khimaar means it needs to be on your head.... but to say it says specifically to "cover your hair" is outright wrong.

People think that it says cover your hair in the Qur'an because many English translations say this. The first Qur'an I bought used the word head cover... it's mainly so that it links with the hadiths.

I really felt for the non-hijabi in this video. The interviewer wasn't very fair and basically told her she wasn't practising her faith properly because of the translation she read out. I tried to leave a comment on YouTube saying the non-hijabi had a fair point but people pressed the "thumbs down" button so you can no longer read my comment. >(

I thought they were, on the whole pretty respectful of one another though quick to take personal offense. I didn't like that Sonia's defense is basically that the Muslim world need to look more friendly, appearance-wise, to the Western world.

The woman wearing the hijab says that men too have their own compulsory dresscode and can't wear whatever they want but technically this is untrue because the way the Sunni ruling is, men CAN practically wear whatever they want unless they have an all-consuming urge to constantly walk around in Speedos. How can one compare head-to-toe covering with covering just from the navel to the knees?

Also, did anyone catch the bit where the reporter says "I'm sure you're anxious about breaking your fast" and connected that to a bit in the clip where Sonia drinks from a cup? That made me LOL.

I agree, assimilation isn't the right word, people's cultures should be respected even if they live in a western place. A person in a headscarf or niqab doesn't automatically make them unfriendly. People approach me i can't look too evil or unfriendly. It was like she was implicating anyone who covers isn't able to do anything in the world. anything useful with other people. inevitably all people will have prejudices be it in hijab, niqab or not that's inescapable..

The nun and the ninja were the nun and the ninja. The nun was following Christian practices plagiarized in the hadith and the ninja was following extra-extreme hadith teachings. Whether or not they felt comfortable with it isn't the issue but the fact the two misguided women said "cover your hair" was in the Quran shows they're not only ignorant but following idols i.e. their ignorant and/or sexist imams. Whether this was their intention or not, God almighty knows.

I think 98% of sunni's say it as a confusion (trying to say the truth but failing) while the other 2 are saying it as a lie (they are damned) those being the fags that made the hadith.

Well, those who dress themselves in a way, that only the face is visible, can look nice and friendly, right?
I mean, to cover your hair is one thing, the cover your whole body is another.
And we always have to first find some solid proof from The Quran.
