My shih tzu thinks you should definitely get a dog. He is literally licking the screen as i write this. What kind of dog are you looking for by the way.

I was thinking about buying a dog for my daughter, is it ok?

        why not?
        see 1818
You would think that they were awake, when they were in fact asleep. We turned them to the right side and the left side, while their dog stretched his arms in their midst. Had you looked at them, you would have fled from them, stricken with terror.

When we resurrected them, they asked each other, "How long have you been here?" "We have been here one day or part of the day," they answered. "Your Lord knows best how long we stayed here, so let us send one of us with this money to the city. Let him fetch the cleanest food, and buy some for us. Let him keep a low profile, and attract no attention.

If there was a dog with those people and they were saved, then why not?

Practical reasons, like the cost of dog food, allergies to fur, vaccinations, your daughter's age, are a different matter altogether.

No, dogs are haram. > They are dirty and evil, especially black dogs, they're demons.
Just kidding. Dogs are great. I wish I had one as a child. I have two now( including a jet black "demon" dog). I don't think I can handle being dogless again. It's a shame that Abu Hurayra and Co. robbed millions of the joy of having a dog. By all means get her a dog, they bring much love and joy into one's life.

If you are going to have a dog, then get ready to hear comments from your traditional muslim friends about angels not coming to your house, etc. But I think dogs need a lot of care, you need to clean their shi* after them, you need to walk them, even if it is too cold outside (I don't know where you live). If your daughter is ready to do all that go ahead, otherwise you will endup doing it all by yourself. Good luck.

Thanks, I did hear about the dog is an animal that the jinn likes and that the angels do not like and maybe it is rooted in jewish traditions.

I plan to let her pick her own as long as I agree

              Peace.

Don't worry about pleasing the traditionalists. Dogs are noble animals. yes, there is work involved, but that will only help your daughter learn about responsibility. If your sunni/shia friends tell you that dogs are evil, ask them why AhlulKahf had a dog among them. A dog's love is priceless

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

1818 You would reckon they are awake while they are asleep. We turn them on the right-side and on the left-side, and their dog has his legs outstretched by the entrance. If you looked upon them you would have run away from them and you would have been filled with fear from them!

1821 Thus We let them be discovered so that they would know that God's promise is true and that there is no doubt regarding the moment. They argued amongst themselves regarding them, so they said, "Erect a monument for them!" Their Lord is fully aware of them. Those who managed to win the argument said, "We will construct a temple over them."

1822 They will say, "Three, the fourth is their dog." They say, "Five, the sixth is their dog," guessing at what they do not know. They say, "Seven, and the eighth is their dog." Say, "My Lord is fully aware of their number, none know them except for a few." So, do not debate in them except with proof, and do not seek information regarding them from anyone.

54 They ask you what was made lawful to them, say, "All the good things have been made lawful for you, and what the trained dogs and birds catch; you teach them from what God teaches you." So eat from what they have captured for you and mention God's name upon it, and be aware of God. God is quick in reckoning.

4229 From among His signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the creatures He spreads in them. He is able to gather them, if He wills.

I am no longer a Sunna-rejecter. See 4:59-65, 62:2-4, 3:31, 4:156, 7:157 Messenger teaches and is to be followed and obeyed. Examples of revelation received which is not in the Qur'an: 3:123-126, 33:37, 2:187, 66:3, 62:9.

1993, What translation was this verse taken from, it makes more sense than the yusef ali version which states

                      005.004
Yas-aloonaka matha ohilla lahum qul ohilla lakumu alttayyibatu wama AAallamtum mina aljawarihi mukallibeena tuAAallimoonahunna mimma AAallamakumu Allahu fakuloo mimma amsakna AAalaykum waothkuroo isma Allahi AAalayhi waittaqoo Allaha inna Allaha sareeAAu alhisabi

YUSUF ALI They ask thee what is lawful to them (as food). Say lawful unto you are (all) things good and pure and what ye have taught your trained hunting animals (to catch) in the manner directed to you by Allah eat what they catch for you, but pronounce the name of Allah over it and fear Allah; for Allah is swift in taking account.

Even his translation fits. Trained hunting animals = dogs.

Dogs do require a lot of responsibility and leadership and proper upbringing. If you need advice let me know. I used to be a dog behaviorist.

The usual answer is... the dog was outside the cave not inside with them.

                            That contradicts 1818.

Yes, i was only stating what the sunni would claim.

but the cave was sealed off, and Rashad's translation uses the phrase 'in the midst of'
I don't know what the correct translation is, and I don't have the time to find out roots, but that does not make sense. As Jack rightly pointed out, it does contradict 1818
