Are muslims allowed to have dogs?

Don't worry about pleasing the traditionalists. Dogs are noble animals. yes, there is work involved, but that will only help your daughter learn about responsibility. If your sunni/shia friends tell you that dogs are evil, ask them why AhlulKahf had a dog among them. A dog's love is priceless

1993, What translation was this verse taken from, it makes more sense than the yusef ali version which states

The usual answer is... the dog was outside the cave not inside with them.
but the cave was sealed off, and Rashad's translation uses the phrase 'in the midst of'
I don't know what the correct translation is, and I don't have the time to find out roots, but that does not make sense. As Jack rightly pointed out, it does contradict 1818
