Actually Recluse, Traditionalists developed something called 'Fiqh al-Aqalliyat' (fiqh of minorities) when they became client communities of hegemons after losing power. The fuqaha believe that when Muslims aren't in power, there's no need for 'offensive jihad' but they achieve power, it's an obligation again. A truly fascist ideology, in my opinion.

Not all Sunnis believe in that type of behavior; in fact, most of them blatantly reject it, calling it a form of oppression. The group that believes in killing disbelievers and apostates is a small minority compared to the many Muslims worldwide who reject this ideology...

Bilal is right. Most Sunnis would never do this in practice. However, official Traditional Islam supports this. You can check any compendium of fiqh on the issue of offensive jihad.

And what about the large compendium of fiqh saying that "jihaad" (violence in particular) should only be used defensively, and it should never be used as an offensive strategy for eliminating non-Muslims? Most of the hadiyths I've read on the issue agree with the Qur'aan, as in there is NO COMPULSION IN RELIGION. This means it is against the Shariah law to forcibly convert others, or spread Islaam by the sword. Even according to the sunna, this is considered oppression, and Muslims are forbidden from doing this...

There are several branches of Sunni Islaam, and the Qutbites are one group, who often have extreme views on certain issues. That's not the Sunni (Shariah) law, it's the Qutbian law, and some Salafiyya feel the same way. It is NOT, however, the way of all, or even most, Sunni Muslims. In fact, most Sunnis believe in allowing people to practice their individual religions without any form of compulsion at all, which is why Sunnis have lived amongst Christians and Jews all over the world for centuries. The 4 emaams' words were taken out of context by Sayyid Qutb, which is why he is rejected by Salafis, Ahmadis, Sufis, and nearly all Sunnis (other than those who follow the Qutbian ideologies). To say that this is "Sunni law" is completely wrong...

And yet, I believe that if you went to sunniforum (or any other similar board for traditional Muslims), you would come across a lot of people who are brainwashed into believing that waging war against the disbelievers is part of Islam. At least that is my impression so far. I'm not saying all of them, but they are not just a tiny and negligible minority.

yes thats true. Some sunnis I know wants to wage war with the west. They sort of encourage that.

I disagree. I think most Sunnis believe that war should only be undertaken defensively, since this is stated in the sunna... Allah knows best...
