MIL & hubby are insisting on the abrogation concept, where different verses in the Qur'an cancel other ones.
Are there any books that argue against this idea?
    Please help.

    Selam Aynur,

You can buy the thematic Qur'an tafsir by Suleyman Ates; http//www.suleyman-ates.com/kuran_ans_.html

I know he does not believe in "abrogation" and many such nonsense. It costs about $ 585 and consists of 30 volumes. This is exactly what your husband and MIL need lol

    I had actually made a thread about it;

    peace

I have to admit 2106 is a bit disquieting to me too.

Why would God edit his perfect holy book as it were? Ah well.

As I understood it, there was a Qur'an in Heaven (could just be another Sunni corruption) yet it was as I was told in the beginning.

If this is accurate, then why would God send the revelation worded differently thereby giving another instruction only to edit it later with the actual verse in this presumed heavily version?

Because you read the verse with the traditional interpretation in your head.
First it's about the quraan v previous books (read the context please).
Secondly the verb "nasakha" means "to copy". This meaning is repeated in other verses in different verb forms 7154; 2252; 4529 all meaning copies, to copy, to write, produce a copy...
Even in today's language, no one would understand this verb as meaning to abrogate. It is a false meaning meant to open a door to "abrogate" the quraan.

Absolutely wrong information without any evidenc.
If "nasakha" means to copy ,it also means to abrogate.

to abrogate, invalidate, nullify, annul, abolish, cancel, negate, repeal, revoke, rescind

How will you translate this "naskh " in this verse.

        2252

And your point? Why would God "delete" what Satans does? Does He delete what we do or this is a "special" treat for Satan?
Use your brains more when reading anything, specially the quraan.

And when you quote the dictionary, bring examples form the dictionary other than their distorted meanings of the quraan, for example from the original meaning of the word...
Oh I forgot. The dictionary does bring this example, which, fortunately, you are embarrassed to bring

          Translation
"And the Arabs say the sun "nasakhat" the shadow, meaning it removed the shadow brickwall
I wont be surprised if you say and is this wrong? confused
Because like you, the dictionaries may push their agendas even if they bring such stupid examples.
And since we are on it, tell us honestly what "your" dictionary says about ? I hope it is not

As for the Path in the hereafter, it's a bridge that extends above hell, sharper than the edge of a sword and finer than a hair on which people pass and only those going to paradise will pass according to their deeds...
If you are as your avatar says (seeker of knowledge), take this advice the quraan explains itself; dictionaries are written by sunnis.
          Oops...

2106 is not about the quran...

              Look at 2105

Neither do those who have rejected from among the people of the scripture, nor from among those who have set-up partners, wish that any good comes down to you (this you is in plural, so it's talking to US) from your Lord. But God chooses with His mercy whom He wishes; and from God is the greatest favour.

2106 is about God's signs, not 'verses' being sent down. See also 4153 and 5120-21.

Removal ,deletion ,abrogation are one and the same thing. These are not copying.

God does know the word (delete, remove) by the way!
                  1712; 4224; 1339
                  and it's not (nasakha).
Just from the verse itself, you can see it cannot mean (abrogate)

None of Our revelations do We copy or cause to be forgotten, but We substitute something better or similar Knowest thou not that Allah Hath power over all things.
What We copy ------->We bring similar
What We make forgotten -------> We bring better

What verses are "abrogated"? How come He "abrogates" verses which are still in the qur'aan and does not tell us which one they are?
                  What verses are made forgotten?

See you had did not have courage to translate the whole verse above

Why should I? The verse and chapter number are there. Anyone can read the translation and replace "abrogate" with "copy" and see which version makes sense, read with the verse that follows

                  2253
That He may make the suggestions thrown in by Satan, but a trial for those in whose hearts is a disease and who are hardened of heart verily the wrong-doers are in a schism far from the Truth.
If He is going to delete what Satan throws, how is it going to be used as a trial for people?

It sounds to me like it's talking about the life and death of the messengers and the believers. Hence it is not that the verses of the message change, it is that different ears are listening to it. The message is in the ears of the beholder.

So which verses can be abrogated? The one's the last fellow heard wrongly.

Members kept asking you for translations and you refuse. Why should I grant you what you refuse to offer?

Do The Verses of The Quran Abrogate Each Other?

There are schools of thought that have committed the travesty of allowing the Quran ? regarded as the definitive word of God ? to be abrogated (replaced, overridden) by the hadith and the sunna.

Though in his footnote, Yusuf Ali refers to the other meaning of the word AYAH, and the different interpretation of the verse, by translating the word as "revelations," he affirms the traditional position known as "abrogation" of one revelation by another revelation. A few scholars, as we say, have gone so far as to use hadith to abrogate the Quran; a more common view, however, is that certain verses in the Quran either have been removed or some verses cancel each other's judgment out. We reject these contentions.

! Disputed passage The traditional commentaries and translations render 2106 to justify abrogation in the Quran, thereby justifying the rejection of many Quranic verses.

                                        Yusuf Ali
None of Our revelations do We abrogate or cause to be forgotten, but We substitute something better or similar Knowest thou not that God hath power over all things? (2106)

Nothing of our revelation (even a single verse) do we abrogate or cause be forgotten, but we bring (in place) one better or the like thereof. Knowest thou not that Allah is Able to do all things? (2106)

                                        Shakir
Whatever communications We abrogate or cause to be forgotten, We bring one better than it or like it. Do you not know that Allah has power over all things? (2106)

                                        Reformist
We do not duplicate (or abrogate) any sign or cause it to be forgotten, unless we produce a better, or at least an equal one. Do you not know that God is Omnipotent? (2106)
                                        DISCUSSION OF 2106

Ayaat, the plural of aya, is used in the Quran to mean both a) signs/miracles and b) verses/revelations of the Quran itself. Since verses of the Quran are considered to be miracles/signs, the plural form occasionally conveys both meanings simultaneously.

A single verse of the Quran is not deemed to be a miracle since some short verses of the Quran (for instance 553; 691; 744; 758; 8028; 8126) are not unique and can be found in daily conversations of Arabic-speaking people. In fact, the Quran determines the minimum unit of miraculous nature as a chapter (103, and the shortest chapters consist of 3 verses (103; 108; 110). Therefore, only the plural form of aya, that is ayaat, can be used as reference to the verses/revelation of the Quran.

However the singular form, aya, in all its 84 occurrences in the Quran is always used to mean sign or miracle. Therefore, we choose to translate the singular form aya in verse 2106 as "sign," rather than as "verse (of the Quran)."

By declaring the word of God to be vague and ambiguous, early scholars opened the gate for unlimited abuse and distortion. Furthermore, by distorting the meaning of 2106, they claimed that many verses of the Quran had been abrogated (amended) by other verses or hadiths. By this "abrogation theory," they amended verses which they did not understand, or which did not suit their interests, or which contradicted their hadiths. Repeating the same error committed by the Children of Israel (285), Muslims fulfilled the prophetic description of their action in 1591-93. Some of them abrogated 5 Quranic verses, some 20 verses and some 50. Below, you'll find an extreme (and bizarre) example of an abrogation based on the supposed "authority" of 2106 as interpreted in the orthodox manner.

The verse that was abrogated by a goat!

Some fabricated hadiths claim that the prophet Muhammad stoned a particular couple to death for illicit sexual relations. This punishment, we believe, would have been in conflict with 242 of the Quran, which sets out a separate penalty for adultery, and makes no mention whatsoever of capital punishment.

Since hadith-manufacturers realized that hadiths were not enough to abrogate the clear verses of the Quran, they went so far as to fabricate a "verse" supporting stoning and attributed it to God. "Al-shaykhu wa al-shaykhatu iza zanaya farjumuhuma nakalan bima kasabu..." They tried to inject the stoning penalty for adulterers into the Quran!

When they failed, they fabricated stories which only the people who are described in 10100 of the Quran (those who believe without understanding and comprehending) could accept.

According to the story, the 'stoning verse' was recorded in the Quran during the time of Muhammad; but just after his death, a goat entered the house of the prophet's wife Aisha and ate the page on which that verse was inscribed. Thus, we are assured, the "stoning verse" had been abrogated physically!

This story can be found in the so-called authentic hadith collections, such as Ibn Maja, Nikah, 36/1944 and Ibn Hanbal, 5/131,132,183; 6/269.

How could a verse of a perfect scripture be abrogated by a goat? As an answer to this question, Ibn Qutayba, a proponent of hadith and sunna, in his classic book entitled "Solving the Contradictions Among Hadiths" puts forward the contention that "the goat is a holy animal." And he asked a counter question "Why not trust in God's power? As He destroyed the people of Aad and Thamud, He is also able to destroy His revelations by using even a goat!"
