    Peace

Was looking at this chapter. For me it comes down to verse 7

    Fa-itha faraghta fainsab

Does anyone have a good meaning for 'fainsab'?

Nuun-saad-ba (the root of fainsab) on project root list

to fix, raise/setup/establish, act with hostility/emnity, he put down a thing, fatigued/tired, suffer difficulty/distress/affliction, nasiba - to use diligence, toil/labour, be instant

The only meaning I good get that would possibly make sense would be to raise/setup/establish in the context of God (and Rabb is mentioned in the next verse). However, checking the root in the Quran, it appears to mainly be used to mean share/portion.

    Any ideas

    Roshan

      Peace Roshan,

Nusiba/nasaba/unsab mean establish/stand/affliction/touch etc. Nasib is in a different form, which means share/portion.

Like you said, stand is the most sensible meaning here, contextually.

I have seen the following translation on www.servantofthelight.com. See what you think.

        ( INTRODUCTION

This is the 94th Surah with 8 verses.

It has a very powerful message, inviting all humans to what has been laid open for them so humans could commence and continue their affairs with ease, which could otherwise be intricate and difficult.

They are asked not to turn away from this message as otherwise they will become tired and fatigued for lack of these exacting things. On the contrary, if they do not shun it away, they will make their course easier. Carefully analyzing the linguistic make up of all the words used in this chapter, it becomes clear that it is not describing any burden on the back of the Prophet, as Rabb in his infinite wisdom, is using this Book again to bring humanity to guidance, for their own benefit.)
        Surah 94 1

Haven?t I laid open, revealed and disclosed all to you? You turned away, shunned and forsook it, and distanced yourself, considering it weak or incorrect.

        Surah 94 2

And we put signs in place before you, but you close your eyes.

        Surah 94 3

This is what makes you into nothing. When this becomes perceptible, manifest and evident after having been concealed or latent.

        Surah 94 4

We lift this up and take it to you. (So)You remember the forgotten and become reminded of it.

        Surah 94 5

And thereupon, commence and continue the affair that had become difficult and intricate. Now simple, so making your conduct and course easier.

        Surah 94 6

Truly, commence and continue the affair that had become difficult and intricate. Now simple, so making your conduct and course easier.

        Surah 94 7

Look! Watch and guard, or became completely lacking and contain nothing of these exacting things, as a consequence becoming tired fatigued and wearied.

        Surah 101 8

So come towards you Sustainer, Maintainer and Fosterer, and as a consequence be broad and plentiful, in what you desire.

          peace Roshan, all,

You may find the following page helpful, taken from PRL's homepage
          http//www.studyquran.co.uk/Qwrmic.htm

You often have to take into account the specific form/derivative, when trying to ascertain meaning.

In this verse, it could mean "toil/labour/stand/establish/fix".

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

As always, PRL was a very good help.

I don't think toil/labour makes any sense due to the fact that God has talked about easing hardship prior to this and has gone on to say, 'and when you have finished'.

If it is toil, it is in more of a metaphorical way, with the context being towards God.

              This is my opinion anyway.

                peace,

The hardship being eased is not necessarily a physical one, e.g. if one is feeling down, if/when God relieves this burden from you, then continue on the path, exert effort, toil/labour, towards your Lord etc.

Yes, it is as you say, IMO. This is a beautiful verse to read when you do feel down.

From the context, I would interpret the word as

be productive (as in take the opportunity of a lull in hardship/a relaxed period to be prepared for what comes next)...

                    i.e. about planning...

I know this is an old topic but I was just going to say something about this chapter and did a search first.

Have We not expanded thee thy breast?
And removed from thee thy burden
The which did gall thy back?
And raised high the esteem (in which) thou (art held)?
So, verily, with every difficulty, there is relief
Verily, with every difficulty there is relief.
Therefore, when thou art free (from thine immediate task), still labour hard,
And to thy Lord turn (all) thy attention.

This is the Open Burhan translation here which is similar to Ali I think, but they all are similar in that the breast was expanded and a burden removed which did 'gall' the back, this is what made me think on these 3 verses.

Anyone who has had gallstones will know the pain is in the back, directly opposite the breast bone and like a heavy weight of extreme pain and that to remove a gall bladder to relieve this pain is done by going into the chest area. removal of gall bladder and/or stones is the ONLY relief, appart from large doses of Pethadine which I dont think were available then

Just something to think about. ;D

                                Peace all,

Here's my simple, common everyday English translation of chapter 94

Haven't We opened up your chest,
and We lifted from you your burden,
                                that had broken your back?
And We raised up for you your dignity.

Then indeed, with the hardship, ease
                                Really, with the hardship, ease

Then whenever you are freed, then set upright!
And to your Sustainer, then hope!

I chose to translate AnSab/InSab as "set upright", as in "setting up/erecting stones for a mark/sign". This is the most basic/most readily comprehensible meaning of this word, imo, which suits the context perfectly.

                                "... fa'nSab and "... fa'rGab "

the latter, which i translated as "hope", is actually closer to desire/wish/longing, i.e. a very deep feeling of longing in one's self.

Thus, the most basic pictures of "AnSab"/"set upright", e.g., the erect/standing "up" posture, the "up"lifted spirit or condition, which are so obviously analagous to the lifting up of one's burden and the raising of one's dignity, is further aligned, as a suggestion, with a very deep feeling of longing toward one's Sustainer.

Then whenever you are freed, then set upright!
And to your Sustainer, then hope!

Then again, we're used to the term "milestone" which is more or less a marking/sign of progress and direction, i.e. where one is going and how far/close he is to where he is going to. Suppose the above meaning ("setting up" of stones for a mark/sign) is indeed the most accurate meaning for AnSab, then the "picture" of the end of chapter 94 could also be seen as, "when you are set free (or feel "free/freed&quot, then set marks/progress/goals/targets along the road/journey (i.e. life) toward your ultimate desire/wish that is your own Sustainer".

Then whenever you are freed, then set upright!
And to your Sustainer, then hope (wish/desire)!

And this is a pretty straightforward observation, i think.

                                Peace

                                  Peace all,

Here's my simple, common everyday English translation of chapter 94

Haven't We opened up your chest,
and We lifted from you your burden,
                                  that had broken your back?
And We raised up for you your dignity.

Then indeed, with the hardship, ease
                                  Really, with the hardship, ease

Then whenever you are freed, then set upright!
And to your Sustainer, then hope!

During the pain given by gallstone one cannot be 'upright' in a physical sense and neither can they be after removal of the gallbladder until you are free or eased of the pain of recovering.

I am not saying this IS what its about, but it seemed to hit a right spot with me when I read it, having been through that pain myself which is like a heavy weight on the back and removed through the chest.

Of course, Ayisha, i can easily imagine many people who were heavily burdened with a condition at some point in their life, then eventually were set free. Ease that comes with hardship -- just about any person can experience this.

The principles/patterns are universal and so wide, that i think it is a shame for people to put this chapter into a tiny little boxed scenario.

                                    Let people "have" Quran, please.

and We have since laid off from you the burden of yours,
                                      which was heavily placed on your back/self;

I disagree. There were many messengers that undertook delivering Gods message and your translation of this, which is unlike all the others, is saying he is now relieved of it, was this the last and final verse revealed?
