Taking off the Hijab

rotfl This discussion has really made me laugh. The funny thing is, I was literally coming on this forum to ask this original question. I've been wanting to take off my headscarf for a while; and have slowly been doing what Sarah suggested, I'm at the showing my neck stage...
I'm still worried about what my friends are going to say. They were really supportive when I decided to wear it, giving me scarfs and pins etc. But that was before I learnt more about my faith. I know I rushed into wearing the headscarf but I know what everyone's going to think. A girl in my school stopped wearing the headscarf for one day and the backbiting carried on for weeks.
Yeah honestly I'm thinking of all the repercussions which will be many.. My teachers, my friends, my friends parents, my family, family friends, next door's cat

Last night i had a weird dream about the headscarf! (and i hardly dream) must be a sign haha nah.. well anyway i changed the way i wear the headscarf i put photos on facebook you can see there. I thought i'd get backlash but no one said anything though it's not too extreme... yet.

Stubble is attractive on a man as it accentuates his jaw line, making him look more masculine. But full on beards are unattractive because they hide the jawline, reducing the appearance of masculinity as well as making it harder to recognise emotions.

The Quran does not advocate the Hijab. The Quran says to cover your bossoms( breasts and butt) and to lengthen garments which means no mini skirts or midriff belly shirts. It means to wear modest clothes that dont show off your body sexually and to be protected from lustful eyes watching your chest or booty. We are not to reveal our chests to anyone but our husbands and that we should subdue our gaze and not be looking into mens eyes and there faces with sex and lust. We should not strike our feet to make our booties jiggle and draw attention.

Lengthen our garments( longer skirts and shirts as to not show off body)
do not show details of our bodies (breasts, butt, Thighs, etc)Dress code in Quran

i just thought i'd add remember Quran isn't against cultural rites and as societies move on from generation to generation things change as part of social/cultural norms. Doesn't mean people need to adopt them just saying it's part of society and that's fine but obligating it and make it part of religion or obligation is when lines get crossed.

I guess it'll be easier for you to take it off. the difference with me is i wore hijab because i "thought" it was an obligation. i felt i was doing right, following God's commands... i know how big the hijab is associated with the community i.e. she's following God's commands, shes doing jihad(struggling) in non muslim country to support her identity.. it's an identity and the fact that it's been apart of me so long it feels odd to just throw it off.
hijab has it's good points but people are just drawn to "it's oppressive, why should i bla bla bla"

sure, Quran isn't advocating hijab. it's given us the benchmark of the guidelines. IF we do more that's our actions irrespective of Quran.
i was thinking if i did take hijab off i'd need to change my wardrobe slightly. with the headscarf at least if the top is low cut it can cover. even if it isn't low cut cross your arms, or bend down you've exposed yourself.. most women's clothing tends to be more huggie as in tight fitted and low cut. just contrasts women's tops to men's.. kinda annoying.

Yeah I totally understand ... even though I only cover my hair while I pray, since it's a habit (and it's not even worn a fraction of the length you wear one outside of the home) it would feel very odd not to wear it. And it does identify you as a 'Muslim'.

I was thinking along the lines of that the other day while looking at some low v-neck cut tops in a magazine, thinking if I wore a scarf I could wear the tops because the scarf would cover the neckline/cleavage area. p

I don?t think it?s necessarily situation specific.
Take a look at the verses before, it talks about those who inflict harm on believers (men and women) they?re doing wrong (335. They can do that whenever.. we don?t wait for them to cause harm to protect ourselves, that?ll be unwise.
Basically as a caution for women, from people (hypocrites) in the city because we can?t control/stop them (3360) lengthening garments is ?adna?, more suitable.
So having a longer garment out in the city is better, for identity purposes and also protection. I guess it?s up to the individual to judge if they should or shouldn?t but lengthening is more suitable in city situations.

Your skirts should cover your buttocks and thighs when bending forward and that they should not be revealing your thighs when you sit and cross your legs. I take lengthen your garments as it says.. lengthening my garments to where my body and sexual parts are covered up and unseen. I dont think that GOD made the " lengthen your garment thing to mean Jilbab like some say. If GOD wanted us to wear Jilbab he would have said wear jilbab over your garments and not lengthen them..???

why would lengthening garments mean what is required? those are required without being specific of bending down and over. covered in all the required places from the appropriate angles...
but this is more about being out and about in the city populated with all sorts, lengthen garments for protection/identity.... so i took it as "more than" the required.
