i should clarify that i'm questioning the ramadan i've been taught by a salafi
like you end ramadan with a prayer and it cleanse you of sins or something
i dont think it works magicly like thatPeace,

with all due Respect.11113 And hold the contact prayer at the two parts of the day, and the near part of the night. The good deeds take away the bad. This is a reminder to those who remember.

well, i did read the different threads about ramadan and the different opinion on what it is
but that did not help
as for doing good deeds, is praying the way the "traditionalist" pray consedered a good deed
in doubt i guess ill just do one month, but this month is the hardest of them all -

if you haven't learned then what good has fasting done? have i done a good deed by going through the motions? how many people do you know who fast, pray, and have even memorized the entire quran yet they lie, hurt, destroy, kill, are inconsiderate, arrogant, boastful, selfish, etc.
for me salat/fasting are a means of attaining piety, remembrance of God, keeping away from evil, being patient, etc. they are a means of doing good.

I can reach piety and calmness and total peace just by reading The Qur'an.
Of course I read it for a few hours in order to reach total peace and love.God bless you.

Fasting has basically been turned into going without food from morning till evening, gathering for iftar, stuffing faces at the end of the day, acting holier than thou, obsessing over details that surely God in the Koran hasn't.
Some years ago I was opening the fast and I hadn't finished my plate. one of our guests looked at the clock and said it was time. They hadn't finished either and dumped entire glasses of milk in the sink and food in the garbage. Is this what fasting is all about? Would it have mattered a great deal if they just finished their plates in few exta minutes? In the times of the prophet, did people have calenders listing the time of fajr and look at the clock to strike the exact time and stop eating?
Over the years, I have toughened up with judgmental reactions from people who ask how fasting is coming along and I tell them that I am not not fasting and by the way, I am not on my periods either. God makes it clear in the Koran what to do if you find fasting hard. God makes it clear that He wishes ease and not hardship. Why do people make "Islam" what it is not....listening to people I sure wouldn't want to believe in a God who is so harsh, trivial, not very understanding, and such.
This month of ramadan invariably brings sadness, often feeling lonely, and finding solace in God's words.

Also during this month, money for charity is collected via various community centres and donated at their discretion. It is like an obligation to contribute in this manner. Does not seem to matter if you have been offering charity in various forms throughout the year to people who you are in contact with, who may even be (gasp, horror) non-Muslims.

with all due Respect.I agree, especially with Aalmakto and justamuslim, I've seen the same when I was in leicester, so much food and beverages is wasted, I just wanna cry and scream and punch but that is why I keep saying to read The Qur'an, especially at night and read it long, read for a few hours. Trust me, it reminds you who you are and what your goals are. My goals are clear, Glory be to God, Thank God.
