Being patient
-
Peace all,
Just wanted to hear what others do to feel contented in their daily lives. For me, what helps
• Reading the Quran
• Doing good deeds
• visiting/talking to family
• Hanging out with my brothers
• Being around believers
• Learning how to improve my life and attempting to do so
• going to the garden or somewhere outdoors
• exercising (cardio feels more relaxing then weight lifting)
• learning about the world
• being prepared for deadlines, commitments etc. so I don't have to rush
What makes me impatient is,
• when I sin - probably caused by impatience
• Thinking too much about what I want over what I have (being ungrateful)
• being idle
• Over-entertainment (more than a few hours of internet/dvds/games)
• Sleeping too little
• Overtime at work
• Being around people who mock God
• rush hour
• breaking my daily routines
• Procrastination
-
the good/contented
- walking alone and watching.. watching shadows, watching ants move, watching the breeze wave leaves around, the sky, clouds
- sleeping with nothing to worry about
- eating awesome food
- learning something new
- the laugh of a baby
- seeing others happy
- hanging out with awesome people
- chilling out with creative art work - making things
- reading/listening to Quran
- helping others
the bad
- not sleeping enough
- being nagged to do something
- people without empathy
- people who just bicker about others
- the lack of knowledge i have
- the lack of gutsiness
- the over expectations of others
- sometimes my mirror reflection
peace
-
Salaam,
Mine will go like this
- Yay -
- Reading the Qur'an (especially surahs 49, 55, 56, 89, 93, 94)
- Doing something for others, even better if I can do it together with others.
- Having meaningful discussion/intellectual exchange with other people. Getting to know others in a more personal level
- Connecting to Brothers and Sisters in faith
- Spending quality time with my mum
- Listening to classical music
- Writing poetry
- Drawing
- Baking. Banana Bread. Apple Strudel. Brownies. Muffins. Almond shortbread. Cheesecake. Cookies. Caramel slice. Need I say more?
- Learning languages (and the occasional Eureka!!! moment when I finally understand something in another language)
- Witnessing the beauty of nature as well as its voice (best one is the sound of the seawaves at midnight)
- Drinking a nice cup of coffee or herbal tea.
- Shopping at fruit/veggie market (seriously, the colour there excites me)
- Little kids (when they're all cute and happy lol)
- Nay -
- Being around people who talk the talk but don't walk their talk
- Indulgence/unnecessary spending
- Rude people
- Change in plans
- Cigarette smoke
- Being inactive
- Being alone
- Unreasonable demands and expectations.
- 5-10 assignments on one week (okay, design a concrete slab out of nothing. Wait, I have to write an essay on the refugees and the stateless in contemporary Southeast Asia. Oh look, a lab report on different level of soil compaction. Eeerrr, what do you mean there will be a class test?).
- Feeling powerless to change something
- My university tuition bills and my bank account statement that follows after that (lol)
- Married guys who try to hit on other women (seriously!!!)
- Sometimes... weighing scale lol
-
Nice thread!
does it have to be in +/- lists? i'm not in the mood for lists right now, maybe later.
i just want to share this, i hold myself from getting something i badly want but don't really need atm, because of 5710-11
5711 Who is it that will lend unto Allah a goodly loan that He may increase it manifold, and his may be a generous reward?
well, it takes patience to believe in the "increase/generous reward", i guess, because it's not coming instantly nor in the way you'd expect... you have to believe it to be able to "re-channel" your lust. the point is, sort of better knowledge/perspective really helps with patience
worst minus points for me avoiding some responsibilities / procrastination / self-imposed distractions / over-indulgence / over-planning etc -[ it's like lingering on while your soul is being sucked dry slowly
- Baking. Banana Bread.
oh, so you're the one who gave Wakas the recipe? He's getting addicted to it you know... i have yet to join a QC chat where he doesn't mention it
-
Peace,
Respect.Reading Qur'an,
Planning for the better future,
Hanging around and with positive people,
Working,
Reading Books,
Watching movies,
hikes in the forest or park,
....If you're not concerned about anything, then there are no problems to be concerned over, right?
Peace.

Sounds like my daily experience. Trying hard not to buy new clothes/shoes/bags because I know I don't need them. Which is hard because lately I keep seeing big big discounts. Oh well, it's hard being a woman and having this type of lust lol.

Nah, wasn't me. My banana bread is of a secret recipe, passed from my boss to me (haha). Wait 'til you try it, you'll be addicted . Though my specialty is Apple and Blueberry strudel (yum).

Peace all,
You guys really inspired me.
Took lots of notes--many points here ring true to my past intentions, plus quite some new points to boot. I will abstain from posting on FM (except what i must respond to personally), until i establish these things in my life. Thanks guys and take care )
Peace!

Great thread! I love the lists
I must question whether 'patience' vs 'impatience' is simply a state of your psyche. We believe xyz makes us patient/impatient, ergo it does. Isn't it more about NOT letting xyz affect us..negatively?
I agree....Goosfrabba
Best thing in life After months at sea, it is time to set course for home and in only a few hours I will see my family again.
Worst thing in life Every second of those few hours feel like an eternity.Best thing in life can also be the worst....hmmm

Peace,
Respect.Don't be impatient.....you are a young person, exercise.
This Saturday I started exercising again and I can assure you that 95% of the problems and troubles leave my head and I just run around the park, make 110 sit-ups and 15 push-ups. Thank God, I use to do more but got a little depressed lately ....Anyway, my message to you - exercise, sister, exercise. E v e r y d a y.
God bless you,
Peace. -
sleeping
Me too...or rather the thought that I can now go to sleep if I want to. The end of each day usually, I am most grateful and content.
But overall, if I have a decent book to read, some good music, perhaps a movie that takes me away from reality for a couple of hours, that is great. Spending time with my family also good. I love my walk time. When I am doing my breathing/meditation (which I am still getting used to), I find my levels of patience increase immensely.
Being impatient - usually PMS sets me off
Otherwise, its all good )

I'm going on "30-day trials" to build up new habits!
Not sure if i should take too much at the same time, but to put it all into perspective, i'm only integrating what i've learned from AQ so far.
All blended into a single "habit", it becomes much like "swimming/floating" (s-b-H), to always keep it afloat and never to drown.
Peace and best wishes to y'all!

Good luck, Bro. And keep me updated. God willing, what was forsaken, can be continued sometimes in the future )
