    SALAAT AN UNDERSTANDING

O ye who believe! take not for friends and protectors those who took your religion for a mockery or sport whether among those who received the Scripture before you or among those who reject faith; but fear ye Allah if ye have Faith (indeed). And when you call for the prayer they take it in a mockery and fun; that is because THEY ARE A PEOPLE WHO UNDERSTAND NOT. Say "" 557/58

This verse is NOT an invitation to the ritual PRAYERS but to the COMMITMENT (of believing in Allah and His Quran and His earlier Books). A high level of UNDERSTANDING is required to BELIEVE in Allah and His Quran and His earlier Books, but requires no UNDERSTANDING to understand the ritual PRAYERS.

No soul can BELIEVE except by the Will of Allah and He has placed abomination on those on those who UNDERSTAND NOT. 10100

O people of the Scripture! Do you take revenge on us except that we believe in Allah, and in (the revelation) which has been sent down to us and in that which has been sent down before (us), and that most of you are Fasiqun ? 559

The REPLY to those who MOCKED when invited for PRAYERS is " DO YOU TAKE REVENGE ON US EXCEPT THAT WE BELIEVED IN ALLAH AND IN THE QURAN AND THE PREVIOUS SCRIPTURES" and most of you are rebellious"

The SALAAT was in fact an invitation to BELIEVE in Allah and the Quran. It was a COMMITMENT to BELIEVE in Allah and the Quran but the infidels and the people of the Book rebelled against it.

    THE MISSING ZUHR PRAYERS

O ye who believe! let those whom your right hands possess and the (children) among you who have not come of age ask your permission on THREE occasions before MORNING prayer; the while ye doff your clothes for the (Z.AHERAH) noonday and after the EVENING prayer these are your THREE times of privacy outside those times it is not wrong for you or for them to move about attending to each other thus does Allah make clear the Signs to you for Allah is full of knowledge and wisdom. 2458

    PLEASE NOTE

SALAAT AL EISHA does not mean NIGHT PRAYERS but EVENING PRAYERS.

Why the deliberate MISSING of ZUHR PRAYERS?

Allah has given the name of the PRAYERS of the two ends of the day as SALAAT AL FAJR and SALAAT AL EISHA. Is it not surprising that in clear words Allah has ordered to observe PRAYERS at the two ends of the day instead of commanding to observe PRAYERS for FIVE times? Is it not surprising that Allah revealed the name of two PRAYERS along with the time of privacy when the verse is speaking of THREE times of privacy?

In which verse of the Quran is the command to pray, SALAAT Az Zuhr, SALAAT Al Asr and SALAAT Al Maghrib?

From where did the Muslims have the names of those THREE prayers?

How did the Muslims FORMULATE the TIMINGS of the THREE missing PRAYERS?

    SALAAT OF ALL MEN

Truly ('INSAAN) man was created very impatient. Fretful when evil touches him; and niggardly when good reaches him except those who (MUSALLEN) prayed those who are (DAAIMON) enduring (cALAA) in their PRAYERS And those in whose wealth there is a known right, for the beggar and the destitute. And those who hold to the truth of the Day of Recompense; and those who fear the torment of their Lord, Verily! The torment of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure, And those who guard their chastity Save in regard to their spouses or those whom their right hands own; so verily they are not blameworthy - But those who trespass beyond this are transgressors And those who respect their trusts and covenants; And those who stand firm in their testimonies; And those who guard their PRAYERS well, Such shall dwell in the Gardens honoured. 7019 to 35

None can be ENDURING in the RITUAL PRAYERS and none can Guard the RITUAL PRAYERS.

Allah is describing the characteristics OF MAN and not BELIEVER.

DO ALL MEN PRAY RITUALLY LIKE THE MUSLIMS?

DO ALL MEN ARE ENDURING IN THEIR PRAYERS?

DO ALL MEN GUARD THEIR RITUAL PRAYERS?

This is what the MUSLIMS do but here Allah is saying that those who have PRAYED and those who are ENDURING in their PRAYERS and those who GUARD their PRAYERS are not FRETFUL when evil touches them and such will dwell in the GARDEN.

There is no GARDEN except for BELIEVERS, but in the above verse there is no mention of those people who BELIEVE but those who PRAYED, those who are ENDURING in their PRAYERS and those who GUARD their SALAAT. Does it mean that all MANKIND will establish PRAYERS, endure in PRAYERS and guard their PRAYERS and enter the GARDEN without BELIEVING?

If there were a war declared do you believe that all Muslims would volunteer to fight. NO! Only those will come forward who uphold the commandments of Allah and have COMMITTED to fight the unbelievers and not those who PRAY ritually.

There are millions of Muslims who are ritually PRAYING but are fretful when evil touches them. But Allah says that mankind is fretful when evil touches him EXCEPT THOSE WHO HAVE PRAYED. THE WORDS OF ALLAH IS IN TRUTH AND THEREFORE THE RITUAL PRAYER OF MUSLIM IS NOT THE SALAAT OF THE QURAN.

Mankind was committed to believe (VERSE 7172) in One God, believe in His messengers, Books, Angels and the Last day, and those who HONOURED these COMMITMENTS became BELIEVERS and the believers were further COMMITTED to be patient when TESTED by Allah and not to be fretful.

BELIEVERS are COMMITTED to the commands of Allah to be PATIENT when he tests them

And certainly, We shall TEST you with something of fear, hunger, loss of wealth, lives and fruits, but give glad tidings UNTO THE PATIENT 2155

Those will enter the Garden who believes, who are patient in TESTS, who GUARD their COMMITMENTS, who are LASTING in their COMMITMENTS, who give in charity etc. etc.

SALAAT OF THE BELIERS OF THE DAY OF RECOMPENSE

O man! What has mislead / deceived thee from thy Lord Most Beneficent? Him Who created thee. Fashioned thee in due proportion and gave thee a just bias, in whatever form He willed, He put you together. Nay! But you BELIE THE RECOMPENSE 829

Woe that Day to those WHO BELIES those who BELIE THE DAY OF RECOMPENSE and NONE can BELIE it except every (MUcTADEN) TRANSGRESSOR (ATHEM) SINNER! 8310/11/12.

    Who are MUcTADEN

And fight in the way of Allah those who fight you, and (TAcTADO) transgress not; verily Allah loveth not the (MUcTADEN) transgressors 2190

O ye who believe! Make not unlawful the good things, which, Allah hath made lawful for you, and (TAcTADO) transgress not. Verily Allah loves not the (MUcTADEN) transgressors 587

Those, who DISOBEY Allah and cross His Limits, are MUcTADEN (TRANSGRESSORS)

A MUcTADEN can be anyone a BELIEVER and a DISBELIEVER.

A SINNER can be anyone a BELIEVER and a DISBELIEVER.

Therefore the Day of recompense could be BELIED by ANYONE.

Regarding / concerning the CRIMINAL "What led you into Hell-Fire?" They will say "We were not of those who (MUSALLEN) COMMITTED;" "Nor we used to feed the poor; ""But we used to talk vanities with vain talkers;" "And we used to BELIE THE DAY OF RECOMPENSE 7441/42/43/44/45/46

Why the HELL FIRE is the punishment for those who did not feed the poor. Is this a CRIME?

And what will explain to thee the path that is steep? It is freeing the neck, Or, FEEDING, in a day of HUNGER, to an ORPHAN near of kin or to the POOR (down) in the dust. THEN HE, WILL BE OF THOSE WHO BELIEVED, and recommend patience and recommend deeds of kindness and compassion. Such are the Companions of the Right Hand. 9012/13/14/15/16/17/18
Those, who do not feed an orphan or poor in a day of HUNGER, which is due to any reason or calamities, then they are Disbelievers by disobeying the commands of Allah and therefore deserve the punishment in Hell.

A BELIEVER is NOT A BELIEVER unless he FEEDS A POOR on a DAY / DAYS of Hunger

Have you seen him who BELIES THE DAY OF RECOMPENSE? That is HE who repulses the orphan, and urges NOT the feeding of the poor, so woe unto THOSE who (MUSALLEN) COMMITTED who are neglectful of their PRAYERS those who (want but) to be seen (of men) and who withholds even common necessaries. 1071 to 7

    Who are the COMMITTED?

Those, who are ENDURING in their COMMITMENTS and those in whose WEALTH there is a known RIGHT, for the beggar and the destitute. And those who BELIEVE in the DAY of Recompense, and those who FEAR the torment of their Lord, and those who of their private parts are GUARDS, and those, who KEEP their trusts and COVENANTS, and those, who stand firm in their TESTIMONIES; and those, who of their COMMITMENTS are GUARDIANS. 7023/24/25/26/27/29/32/33/34

So woe unto those who (MUSALLEN) COMMITTED who are NEGLECTFUL of their COMMITMENTS (ABOVE MENTIONED IN 7023 TO 34)

    THE MIDDLE PRAYER

H.AAFIZ.O cALAA AS.- S.ALAWAAT WA- AS.- S.ALAAH AL- WUST.AA WA- QOMO LI- 'ALLAAH QAANITEN FA- 'IN KHIFTUM FA- RIJAAL(AN) 'AW RUKBAAN(AN) FA- 'IDHAA 'AMINTUM FA- UDHKURO 'ALLAAH KA-MAA cALLAMA -KUM MAA LAM TAKONO TAcLAMON 2238/239

Guard the PRAYERS, and the MIDDLE prayer, and stand up to Allah devout And if ye FEAR, then on FOOT or RIDING; then when ye are secure, remember Allah in the way He hath taught you which ye ever knew not. . 2238/239

IS THERE ANY MUSLIM IN THE WORLD WHO CAN DEMONSTRATE THE RITUAL PRAYER ON FOOT, INCLUDING BOWING AND PROSTRATION AND THE SITTING (TAHIYYA)?

There is no COMMAND to PRAY but to GUARD the PRAYERS and the middle PRAYER. As already explained above that there is no fear attached to the ritual PRAYERS therefore it does not need any protection. When the command is to guard the five PRAYERS then what is the need of a separate command to GUARD the middle prayer. Is that the middle prayer more important, worthy, or greater than the rest of the FOUR ritual PRAYERS or is that the middle ritual prayer is not a part of the five ritual prayer?

Is there any method to guard the ritual PRAYERS?

And if you fear then on foot or riding; what is the fear? Is the fear of not guarding the ritual PRAYERS? Is the fear of not guarding the middle ritual prayer? Is the fear of not standing up to Allah devout?

How could we ever think of ritually praying on foot or riding? What is the fear that will compel us to pray ritually on foot or riding rather than standing? How can anyone prostrate or bow while on foot and riding? If we can ritually pray on foot then we can very well pray ritually while standing. The subject discussed before this verse and after this verse is DIVORCE and I don't think that there is any fear in divorce that will force us to ritually pray on foot or riding. Even in a situation like war we can easily pray while standing rather than on foot.

IN KHIFTUM IF YOU FEAR.(IN THE QURAN)

FA- 'IN KHIFTUM 'AN LAA YUQEMAA H.UDOD 'ALLAAH 2229
Then if you fear that they would not be able to keep the limits ordained by Allah

WA- 'IN KHIFTUM 'AN LAA TUQSIT.O FE AL- YATAAMAA 43
And if you fear that you shall not be able to deal justly with the orphan girls

WA- 'IN KHIFTUM SHIQAAQ BAYNA -HUMAA 435
If you fear a breach between them twain

IN KHIFTUM 'AN YAFTIN -KA 'ALLADHENA KAFARO 4101
If you fear that the disbelievers may attack you

    WA- 'IN KHIFTUM cAYLAH 928
    And if ye fear poverty

In all the above verses Allah has mentioned the kind of fear, but in verse 2239 there is no fear mentioned and it means the subject mentioned in verse 238 is the cause of fear

The subject mentioned are guarding the ritual PRAYERS and the middle PRAYERS and standing devoutly for Allah.

Then it should read like this

And if you fear that you cannot guard the PRAYERS and the middle PRAYERS then pray on foot or riding.

    OR

And if you fear that you cannot stand devoutly for Allah then pray on foot or riding.

    Is there any logic?

We tried the traditional way to understand this verse but failed and now we shall try to understand from the subject point of view of the verse.

From verse 228 to 241 the subject is divorce and in divorce the role of mediator or broker becomes imperative.

WUSTA = mediator intermediary intermediate ?????? agent middleman go-between broker intermediary ?????? intermediary intermediate middle

RIJAAL = men, great men, important men, leading personalities, men of distinction,

    RUKBAAN = retinue escort

Meanings from A DICTIONARY OF MODERN WRITTEN ARABIC by "HANS WEHR"

Retinue = group of people attending important person (oxford dictionary)

Guard your COMMITMENTS and the COMMITMENTS of the MEDIATORS and stand devoutly for Allah and if you FEAR (that you cannot GUARD your COMMITMENTS as a MEDIATOR) then (take the help of) leading personalities or men attending such person, and when you are in security then remember Allah in the way He hath taught you which ye ever knew not

The SALAAT AL WUSTA is the COMMITMENTS OF THE MEDIATOR and not the middle prayer.

    SALAAT AND TRAVEL

And when you travel in the land, there is no SIN on you (AN TAQS.URO MIN AS.- S.ALAAH) to shorten of / from the PRAYERS if you fear that the disbelievers may attack you, verily, the disbelievers are ever unto you open enemies. 4101

This verse and the following are mutilated beyond imagination.

This verse is not revealed in the context of an ordinary travel but in the context of travelling in hostility. During the days of the prophet the hostility between the believers and the disbelievers were round the clock and the disbelievers never missed an opportunity to attack the believers from behind, therefore the believers were always alert and carried their weapons when travelling alone or in a group.

Allah says that there is NO SIN if the believers reduced FROM the PRAYERS IF THEY FEAR that the disbelievers might attack them

The Muslims have forgotten the word IF in the verse. They shorten the PRAYERS when they travel even though there is no hostility and NO FEAR of the attack of the disbelievers.

    AN TAQSURO MIN AS SALAH

What do we mean by TO REDUCE FROM THE PRAYERS.

What are the contents of the PRAYERS so that we can reduce?

Allah has not provided a single detail of the ritual PRAYER in the Quran then how and what to reduce.

If we read the verse with a little wisdom and go a little deep we understand that, it is a SIN if we shorten from the PRAYERS when there is NO FEAR OF ATTACK of the disbelievers while travelling.

No one has taken the care to understand why it is a SIN in normal circumstance to shorten from the prayer. Remember the prayer is established for the REMEMBRANCE of Allah and therefore the shortening or reduction in the REMEMBRANCE of Allah in respect of TIME or UNIT should not be a cause of SIN.

    WHAT IS, THAT SIN?

They wish that you reject Faith, as they have rejected (Faith), and thus that you all become equal (like one another). So take not Auliya' (protectors or friends) from them, till they SURRENDER in the Way of Allah (to Muhammad SAW). But if they turn back take (hold) of them and kill them wherever you find them, and take neither Auliya' (protectors or friends) nor helpers from them. 490

Except those who join a group, between you and whom there is a treaty (of peace), or those who approach you with their breasts restraining from fighting you as well as fighting their own people. Had Allah willed, indeed He would have given them power over you, and they would have fought you. So if they withdraw from you, and fight not against you, and offer you peace, then Allah has opened no way for you against them. 491

If you (O Muhammad SAW) FEAR TREACHERY from any people throw back (their covenant) to them (so as to be) on equal terms (that there will be no more covenant between you and them). Certainly Allah likes not the treacherous. 858

How (can there be such a covenant with them) that when you are overpowered by them, they regard not the ties, either of kinship or of covenant with you? With (good words from) their mouths they please you, but their hearts are averse to you, and most of them are Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient to Allah). 98

With regard to a believer, they respect not the ties, either of kinship or of covenant! It is they who are the transgressors. 910

Believers are prohibited to fight with those disbelievers who join a group with whom the believers have a treaty of peace and those who approach them with their breasts restraining from fighting them as well as fighting their own people. Those disbelievers who withdraw from them, and fight not against them, and offer them peace, then Allah has opened no way for them against such disbelievers.

But if the believers fear TREACHERY then they have the right to throw away their covenants of peace treaty and attack them because they respect neither the ties of kinship nor the treaty of peace once they overpower the believers, as the disbelievers are the transgressors.

These are the SALAAT COMITMNETS of fighting and the believers can curtail from the commitments and attack the disbelievers if the believers fear TREACHERY and fear that the disbelievers might attack them, with whom they have a treaty of peace.

In PEACEFUL conditions it is a SIN to ATTACK the DISBELIEVERS with whom the believers have a TREATY OF PEACE

When thou art with them then establish COMMITENTS (duties of fighting) for them let one party of them stand up with thee and let them take their arms and when they have SUBMITTED let them take their positions in the rear and let the other party come up which hath not yet COMMITTED and let them COMMIT with thee and let them take their precautions and their arms the unbelievers wish if ye were negligent of your arms and your baggage to assault you in a single rush but there is no sin on you if ye put away your arms because of the inconvenience of rain or because ye are ill; but take (every) precaution for yourselves. For the unbelievers Allah hath prepared a humiliating punishment. 4102

When the prophet is among such travellers then he must set up for them the COMMITMENTS (duties of fighting) and one party should stand with him with the arms and SUBMIT (to the duties of fighting) then let them take their positions in the rear after SUBMITTING. The second party, which has not yet COMMITTED to the duties of fighting, should come forward and COMMIT to the duties of fighting with the prophet.

The word TAQOM stand is not physical standing but allegorical as understood in the following verse.

They ask thy instruction concerning the women. Say Allah doth instruct you about them and (remember) what hath been rehearsed unto you in the Book concerning the orphans of women to whom ye give not the portions prescribed and yet whom ye desire to marry as also concerning the children who are weak and oppressed that (TAQOMO) YOU STAND firm for justice to orphans. There is not a good deed, which ye do but Allah is well acquainted therewith. 4127

Then when ye have finished the COMMITMNETS (duties of fighting), REMEMBER Allah, standing and sitting and lying on your sides. Then when ye are secure, execute the COMMITMENTS (scheduled remembrance and glorifications of Allah, recitation of the Quran) Verily the COMMITMENTS (scheduled remembrance and glorifications of Allah, recitation of the Quran) are prescribed unto the believers at definite times. 4103

In the Quran where are the stated times, definite times or fixed hours of the PRAYERS. Apart from the two PRAYERS, SALAAT Al FAJR and SALAAT Al EISHA and its timings, which are to be observed in the proximity of the night, there are no timings and name of the other three PRAYERS.

Remember when this verse was revealed there was no watch to know the 24 hours time and therefore to know the fixed time of the prayer was next to impossible.

Allah has clearly mentioned the two SALAAT with names and its timings and that can be established without a watch.

And execute the COMMITMENTS (scheduled remembrance and glorifications of Allah) at the two ends of the day and in the proximity of the night. Verily, the good deeds remove the evil deeds that is a reminder for the mindful 11114

The two SALAAT are to be offered in the proximity of the night and this needs no watch. The fixed watch time OF THE FIVE RITUAL PRAYERS changes round the year but the one mentioned by Allah do not change.

THE COMMITMENT of the LORD to those who are PATIENT

And certainly, We shall test you with something of fear, hunger, loss of wealth, lives and fruits, BUT GIVE GLAD TIDINGS TO THE PATIENT. Who, when afflicted with calamity, say "Truly! To Allah we belong and truly, to Him we shall return." They are those to whom is the COMMITMENTS from their Lord and Mercy and they are the ones that receive guidance. 2155/156/157

Whatever is with you, will be exhausted, and whatever with Allah (of good deeds) will remain. And those who are PATIENT, We will certainly pay them a reward in proportion to the best of what they used to do. 1696

For Muslim men and women for believing men and women for devout men and women for true men and women for men and women who are PATIENT and constant for men and women who humble themselves for men and women who give in charity for men and women who fast (and deny themselves) for men and women who guard their chastity and for men and women who engage much in Allah's praise for them has Allah prepared forgiveness and great reward. 3335

Say "O ye my servants who believe! Fear your Lord good is (the reward) for those who do good in this world. Spacious is Allah's earth! Those who PATIENTLY persevere will truly receive a reward without measure!" 3910

Those will be rewarded with the highest place (in Paradise) because of their PATIENCE. Therein they shall be met with greetings and the word of peace and respect. 2575

And their RECOMPENSE shall be PARADISE, and SILKEN garments, because they were PATIENT. 7612

The COMMITMENT is to recompense those who are PATIENT with PARADISE and SILKEN garments.

THE COMMITMENT OF ALLAH TO THE PROPHET

Allah and His angels have COMMITTED to the prophet O ye WHO believe! COMMIT to him and accept him with submission 3356

What was the COMMITMENT of the LORD to the PROPHET?

If ye HELP HIM not, then SURELY ALLAH HAS HELPED HIM when these who disbelieved drove him the second of the two When the twain were in a cave, and when he Said unto his companion. grieve not, verily Allah is with Us. Then Allah sent down His calm upon him and AIDED him with HOSTS whom ye saw not, and made the word of those who disbelieved nethermost, and the word of Allah! that is the upper most. And Allah is Mighty, wise, 940

Whoever thinks that ALLAH WILL NOT HELP HIM (Muhammad SAW) in this world and in the Hereafter, let him stretch out a rope to the ceiling and let him strangle himself. Then let him see whether his plan will remove that whereat he rages! 2215

The COMMITMENT was to HELP the prophet

THE COMMITMENT OF ALLAH TO THE BELIEVERS

It is He Who has COMMITTED to you and His angels to bring your forth from darkness into light; and unto the believers He is ever Merciful. 3343

The COMMITMENT of Allah was to bring froth the BELIEVERS from the darkness into light.

WHAT SHOULD BE THE COMMITMENT OF THE BELIEVERS

"Those who follow the apostle the unlettered prophet whom they find mentioned in their own (Scriptures); in the law and the Gospel; for he commands them what is just and forbids them what is evil he allows them as lawful what is good (and pure) and prohibits them from what is bad (and impure); He releases them from their heavy burdens and from the yokes that are upon them. So it is those who believe in him honour him HELP HIM and follow the light which is sent down with him it is they who will prosper." 7157

The commitment of the believer was to help the prophet and accept him with submission

Allah has COMMITTED to HELP the PROPHET and the BELIEVERS are also commanded to help the prophet.

    THE SUCCESSFUL

QAD AFLAH.A MAN TAZAKKAA WA- DHAKARA ISM RABB -HI FA- S.ALLAA 8714/15

Indeed he will succeed who PURIFIES himself and REMEMBERS the name of His Lord and then COMMITS. 8714/15

The first thing is to PURIFY from POLYTHEISM

And He is Allah there is no god but He. To him be praise at the first and at the last for Him is the Command and to Him shall ye (all) be brought back. 2870

The second thing is to PURIFY the SOUL

By the SOUL and Him Who proportioned it, and inspired it with its immorality and its piety. Indeed he succeeds that PURIFIES it. 917/8/9

The fourth thing is to PURIFY the WEALTH

Take thou alms out of their riches; thereby thou wilt cleanse them and PURIFY them; and pray thou for them. Verily thy prayer is repose for them; and Allah is Hearing, Knowing. 9103

Those who spend their wealth for increase in self-PURIFICATION 9218

The fourth thing is to REMEMBER the name of Allah

In houses, which Allah has ordered to be raised and REMEMBER in them His name and praise HIM therein in the mornings the evenings. 2436

Then the last thing is to be COMMITTED to these acts.

    COMMIT TO BE THANKFUL

FA- S.ALLI LI- RABB -KA WA- ANH.AR 1082

Verily We! We have given thee abundance. Therefore COMMIT (be thankful) to your Lord and sacrifice 1082

The SALLI explained in verse 3966

Prophet was COMMITTED to the command of Allah be THANKFUL

Nay! But worship Allah and be among the thankful .3966

We can invoke to Allah but we cannot ritually PRAY to Allah.

WHO CAN STOP OTHERS FROM PRAYING?

Seest thou one who FORBIDS / STOPS a slave when he COMMITS (to become a believer and follow the way of Allah) 969/10

No one can FORBID or STOP any one from PRAYING RITUALLY when it is offered in the HOMES.

We believe that this was the first verse revealed to the prophet, but the very first verse speaks of a slave being stopped from praying by some disbeliever. How is it possible?

They said "You have come to us that we should worship Allah Alone and FORSAKE that which our FATHERS USED TO WORSHIP So bring us that wherewith you have threatened us if you are of the truthful." 770

The chiefs of those who were arrogant among his people said "We shall certainly drive you out, O Shu'aib, and those who have BELIEVED with you from our town, or else you (all) shall RETURN TO OUR RELIGION." He said "Even though we hate it! 788

And those who disbelieved, said to their Messengers "Surely, we shall drive you out of our land, or you shall RETURN TO OUR RELIGION." So their Lord inspired them "Truly, We shall destroy the wrong doers. 1413

Verily they, if they come to know of you, would stone you or make you REVERT TO THEIR FAITH, and lo! then ye will never fare well. 1820

The only thing which the DISBELIEVERS hated was anyone abandoning THEIR RELIGION / FAITH / cult / sect and they can go to any extent to STOP / FORBID, him if he exceeds this and COMMITS to become a BELIEVER and follow the way of Allah.

(Pharaoh) said "BELIEVE TE IN HIM before I give you permission? Surely this must be your leader who has taught you magic! Be sure I will cut off your hands and feet on opposite sides and I will have you crucified on trunks of palm-trees So shall ye know for certain which of us can give the more severe and the more lasting Punishment!" 2071

    THE CHAMBER OF PRAYER

Then the angels called him, while he stood COMMITTED (in invocations) in the chamber (saying) ""Allah doth give thee glad tidings of Yahya witnessing the truth of a Word from Allah and (be besides) noble chaste and a Prophet of the (goodly) company of the righteous." 339

He said "O my Lord! How can I have a son when I am very old, and my wife is barren?" Allah said "Thus Allah does what He wills." 340

Please note that the Angels called Zakariya WHILE he was standing in his prayers and Zakariya replied his Lord WHILE he was in prayers.

I don't think that Allah will ever disturb anyone while he is in RITUAL PRAYERS.

At that time Zakariya invoked his Lord, saying "O my Lord! Grant me from You, a good offspring. You are indeed the All-Hearer of invocation." Then the angels called him, WHILE he stood COMMITTED (in his invocation) in the chamber (saying) ""Allah doth give thee glad tidings of Yahya witnessing the truth of a Word from Allah and (be besides) noble chaste and a Prophet of the (goodly) company of the righteous." He said "O my Lord! How can I have a son when I am very old, and my wife is barren?" Allah said "Thus Allah does what He wills." 338/39/40

The angels called him while he stood in his INVOCATION and not in his RITUAL prayer

When he called out his Lord (Allah) a call in secret, Saying "My Lord! Indeed my bones have grown feeble, and grey hair has spread on my head, And I have never been unblest in my INVOCATION to You, O my Lord! "And Verily! I fear my relatives after me, since my wife is barren. So give me from Yourself an heir, Inheriting me and inheriting the Children of Ya'qub; and make him, my Lord, acceptable! (Allah said) "O Zakariya ! Verily, We give you the glad tidings of a son, His name will be Yahya (John). We have given that name to none before (him)." He said "My Lord! How can I have a son, when my wife is barren, and I have reached the extreme old age." He said "So (it will be). Your Lord says; It is easy for Me. Certainly I have created you before, when you had been nothing!" 193/4/5/6/7/8/9

      continued...

And (remember) Zakariya when he cried to his Lord "O my Lord! leave me not without offspring though Thou art the best of inheritors. So We answered his call, and We bestowed upon him Yahya (John), and cured his wife (to bear a child) for him. Verily, they used to hasten on to do good deeds, and they used to call on Us with hope and fear, and used to humble themselves before Us. 2189/90

As per the practice the Ritual Prayers are offered first and before the INVOCATION. But in the above verse Zakariya invokes Allah before the Ritual prayer and while in the midst of his Ritual prayer he receives the message of His Lord through Angel and while in the midst of his Ritual prayer Zakariya replies to Allah. UNBELIEVABLE!

A COMMITMENT TO EXPOUND THE BOOK

And this is a Book which We have revealed bringing blessings and confirming (the revelations) which came before it that thou mayest warn the Mother of Cities and all around her. Those who believe in the Hereafter believe in it (Quran) and they are the GUARDIANS of their COMMITMENTS. 692

And recall what time Allah took a COVENANT from those who were vouchsafed the Book ye shall surely expound it to the people and ye shall hide it not; where after they cast it behind their backs, and bartered it for a small price. Vile is that wherewith they have bartered. 3187

The COMMITMENT was to expound the verses of the Quran to the people and not to hide it.

It was a commitment of honouring the covenants of the people of the Book, who failed.

(They are) those who if We STRENGTHEN / CONSOLIDATE / EMPOWER them in the land execute the COMMITMENTS (covenants of Allah) and bring forth PURIFICATION and COMMAND for Kindness and FORBID from the Shameful with Allah rests the end (and decision) of (all) affairs. 2240/41

THOSE who are wronged and expelled from their homes and when THEY are empowered THEY establish prayers and give Charity, and Command for the Kindness and Forbid for the Shameful.

It means that if those who are wronged and expelled from their homes but are not strengthened / empowered will not establish prayers, give charity, will not command for kindness, and forbid for the shameful. WHY?

If the SALAAT had been RITUAL PRAYERS they would have very much offered in their homes without needing any power or strength.

If the ZAKAAT had been CHARITY they would have given it without the notice of others without needing any power or strength.

In Saudi Arabia do the infidels need strength / power to establish their puja / prayers at their homes. Do they need power / strength to give in charity.

But they would certainly need strength / power to establish their faith, to fulfil their COMMITMENTS of their religion, they would certainly need strength / power to purify themselves from monotheism (according to their belief).

      SALAAT AND THE TRADING

By men whom neither trade nor merchandise can divert from the REMEMBRANCE of Allah nor from executing the COMMITMENTS (to give measure and weight with (full) justice) nor from bringing forth the PURIFICATION (spending the wealth for self purification) they fear a Day when hearts and sights will be overturned 2437

And come not nigh to the orphan's property except to improve it until he attain the age of full strength; GIVE MEASURE AND WEIGHT WITH (FULL) JUSTICE; no burden do We place on any soul but that which it can bear; whenever ye speak, speak justly even if a near relative is concerned; and fulfil the COVENANT of Allah thus doth He command you that ye may remember. 6152

Take thou alms out of their WEALTH; thereby thou wilt cleanse them and PURIFY them; and pray thou for them. Verily thy prayer is repose for them; and Allah is Hearing, Knowing. 9103

Those who SPEND THEIR WEALTH for increase in self-PURIFICATION 9218

The trade and merchandise is the source of generating wealth and THOSE WHO FEAR THE LAST DAY will NOT EARN through deception but with HONESTY and will not ACCUMULATE but SPEND it in the way of Allah to attain SELF PURIFICATION.

      Thanks

How can you say salat is a commit when GOD isolate the covenant and salat as two seperate things. for example

{283}We made a covenant with the Children of Israel "You shall not worship except GOD. You shall honor your parents and regard the relatives, the orphans, and the poor. You shall treat the people amicably. You shall observe the Contact Prayers (Salat) and give the obligatory charity (Zakat)." But you turned away, except a few of you, and you became averse.

this verse clearly explains detail of the covenant, one of which is to observe salat. How can salat be a commit/covenant with it is listed as part of a commit?

The SALAAT is established for the REMEMBRANCE of ALLAH only and none should be remembered besides Him. Is there any need of physical ups and downs to REMEMBER ALLAH? Why we need a mosque to remember Allah when it could be done at home and permitted by Allah.

surely salat is a remenbrance, that is what ritual prayer is. a consant remembrance of GOD. You argument techinically didnt prove salat is not a ritual prayer. but in something

          **PS

the question is base only on the first part of your article.

          ****side observation
to me salat is a tree. many people are "re-define" what it is base only on the leaves, or only the roots, or only the crunk, but not the entire tree.

            peace Hafeez,

I never read all of it (as its rather long) but I did pick up some stuff you may wish to look at

            ghasaq = darkness

rukban = judging by its other occurrences, I have difficulty understanding your translation, with reference to 2239.

            Wakas

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

              Salaam and peace to all,

              DEAR WAKAS,

              Thanks for your critical reading.

The meaning of GHASAQ in the six dictionaries I possess

Al Wafi = dusk gloaming twilight
Al Mawrid = dusk gloaming twilight

              Atlas = dusk gloaming twilight
Hans Wehr = dusk, twilight before nightfall, dark of night
              Language teacher = dusk gloaming

              DARKNESS = ZULAM

Their likeness is as the likeness of one who kindled a fire; then, when it lighted all around him, Allah took away their light and left them in DARKNESS. (So) they could not see. 217

              RUKBAAN

You forgot another word RIJAAL (AN) in the same verse.

Thus doth Allah make clear to you (His law) lest ye err. And Allah hath knowledge of all things. 4176

RIJAAL(AN) = MEN, MALE, ON FOOT.

Which meaning you would consider in the above three verses.

The meaning of the word should give a logical explanation to the verse.

IF RUKBAAN MEANS "ON FOOT" then no one in the world can pray on foot AND further it raises many questions

What is the fear that forces the believer to pray on foot?

How can one execute the bowing or prostration when praying on foot?

How can one be HUMBLE in his prayer when praying on foot (232)

The prayers, which could be offered standing or sitting, then what is the need to pray on foot?

There is no logic and practically it cannot be demonstrated.

There is NO mention in the verse ' OFFER THE MIDDLE PRAYER" but GUARD THE MIDDLE PRAYER"

Is there any method to guard the "DAILY RITUAL SALAAT" and to "GUARD THE DAILY MIDDLE RITUAL SALAAT"

If there is any method then it can be applied for all the FIVE RITUAL PRAYERS, then why a separate command for MIDDLE RITUAL PRAYER.

The FABRICATION of the SALAAT AL ASR / MIDDLE PRAYER

              MUSLIM Al-Bara ibn Azib

This verse was revealed (in this way) "Guard the PRAYERS and the ASR PRAYER." We recited it (in this very way) AS LONG AS ALLAH DESIRED. Allah then ABROGATED it and it was revealed "GUARD THE PRAYERS, AND THE MIDDLE PRAYERS" Someone who was sitting with Shaqiq (one of the narrators in the chain of transmitters) said Now it IMPLIES the ASR PRAYER. Upon this al-Bara' said I have already informed you how this (verse) was REVEALED and how Allah ABROGATED IT, and Allah knows best. Imam Muslim said Ashja'i narrated it from Sufyan ath-Thawri, who narrated it from al-Aswad ibn Qays, who narrated it from Uqbah, who narrated it from al-Bara ibn Azib who said We RECITED with the PROPHET (peace be upon him) (THE ABOVE MENTIONED VERSE LIKE THIS, i.e. INSTEAD OF SALAT AL-ASR) FOR A CERTAIN PERIOD, as it has been mentioned (in the hadith quoted above).

Allah DESIRED that Muslims should recite verse (Guard strictly your (habit of) prayers especially the MIDDLE PRAYER and stand before Allah in a devout (frame of mind). 2238 as ASR PRAYERS and when Allah's DESIRE ENDED He ABROGATED it. Could you believe?

              MUSLIM Aisha

AbuYunus, the freed salve of Aisha said Aisha ordered me to TRANSCRIBE A COPY OF THE QURAN for her and said When you REACH THIS VERSE "GUARD THE PRAYERS AND THE MIDDLE PRAYER" (ii.23, INFORM ME; so when I REACHED it, I INFORMED her and she gave me DICTATION (like this) Guard the PRAYERS and the MIDDLE PRAYER, and the AFTERNON PRAYER, and stand up truly obedient to Allah, Aisha said This is how I have heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)

The verse was amended and Allah cancelled the words "AND THE AFTERNOON PRAYER" after the death of the prophet. This is an insult to the wisdom and power of Allah that He is not sure of what He is revealing. The enemies of Islam were confused and they tried every means to corrupt the real meaning of Salaat with their preconceived meaning ritual prayer.

              MUWATTA

Yahya related to me from Malik from Zayd ibn Aslam from al-Qaqa ibn Hakim that Abu Yunus, the mawla of AISHA UMM AL-MUMININ said, AISHA ordered me to write out a Qur'an for her. She said, 'When you reach this ayat, let me know, "Guard the PRAYERS carefully and the MIDDLE PRAYER and stand obedient to Allah." ' When I reached it I told her, and she dictated to me, 'Guard the PRAYERS carefully and THE MIDDLE PRAYER and THE ASR PRAYER and stand obedient to Allah.' A'isha said, 'I heard it from the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.' "

Yahya related to me from Malik from Zayd ibn Aslam that Amr ibn Rafi said, "I was writing a Qur'an for HAFSA UMM AL-MUMININ, and she said, 'When you reach this ayat, let me know, " Guard the PRAYERS carefully and the MIDDLE PRAYER and stand obedient to Allah." When I reached it I told her and she dictated to me, 'Guard the PRAYERS carefully and THE MIDDLE PRAYER and THE ASR prayer and stand obedient to Allah.' "

Yahya related to me from Malik from Da'ud ibn al-Husayn that Ibn Yarbu al-Makhzumi said, "I heard Zayd ibn Thabit say, 'The MIDDLE PRAYER is the PRAYER OF DHUHR.' "

Yahya related to me from Malik that he had heard that AIi ibn Abi Talib and Abdullah ibn Abbas used to say, "The MIDDLE PRAYER is the PRAYER OF SUBH."
Malik said, "Out of all that I have heard about the matter, I prefer what Ali ibn Abi Talib and Abdullah ibn Abbas said."

(MISKHAT) Malik transmitted it from Zayd and Tirmidhi from both of them without a full isnad.
The MIDDLE PRAYER is the NOON PRAYER

              (MISKHAT) Transmitted by Tirmidhi.
Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) said, It is the AFTERNOON PRAYER (ASR) which is the MIDDLE PRAYER.

WHY SO MANY NONSENSE HADITH FOR A PRAYER REVEALED BY ALLAH?

              THANKS

                Peace be upon you Hafeez,

Long reading brother, but that is what it takes.

You are almost there. I urge you to consider that it is stated that "salaat" is at stated times (dawn and dusk).

Are we only to maintain our "commitments" at those times?

No, we are to maintain the LEarning Process at those times. The times whan day and night, conscious and subconcious come together, we are to recite the message of the God, wether in book form or in the signs of he universe as Ibrahim did when he witnessed the rising and setting of the heavenly bodies.

Also , Jesus was told to maintain it from birth (as we all should). Children begin learning as soon as they are born, if not sooner.

Learning by reading or meditating is how we arrive at the truth of the Laws of the God and cause and effect, which will protect us from evil deeds because we then begin to sow good seeds.

                  Hello IdolFree,

I have asked this to Hafeez before but I am going to ask you just for good measure.Taking the northern hemisphere as an example ;during summer at latitudes beyond 66 degrees North the sun does not set at all so how do you abide to the dawn and dusk salat??

So the translation of Salat=Commitment=? would be independent of the movement of the Sun relative to us here on earth.

                  Cheers.

                    Peace YD, Kyle,

                    Hello IdolFree,

I have asked this to Hafeez before but I am going to ask you just for good measure.Taking the northern hemisphere as an example ;during summer at latitudes beyond 66 degrees North the sun does not set at all so how do you abide to the dawn and dusk salat??

                    Good point!

We have to observe the salat (establish the god system) during all our life.

                    I think the verse 4103 is linked to 4102, 11114 and 1778.

We have to consider the context of these verses , Allah doesn't say Aqeemoo (plural form) but aqimi (the 2nd person of the singular form).

                    1. And you shall hold (aquimi / the messenger) the salat at both ends of the daylight and the near part of the night. The good deeds take away the bad. This is a reminder to those who remember.
Wa aqimi alssalata tarafayi alnnahari wazulafan mina allayli inna alhasanatiyuthhibna alssayyi-ati thalika thikralilththakireena

                    2. You shall hold (Aqimi/the messenger ) the salat at the sun?s decline until the darkness of the night, and the Quran at dawn; the Quran at dawn has been witnessed.
Aqimi alssalata lidulooki alshshamsi ila ghasaqi allayli waqur-anaalfajri inna qur-ana alfajri kana mashhoodan

The time for the salat on the day of gathering is not indicated and We are concerned by this commands. We could hold it at dawn, at dusk or other time...

                    1. O you who believe, if the salat is called to on the day of gathering, then you shall hasten (faisAAaw towards the remembrance of God, and cease all selling. This is better for you, if you only knew.
Ya ayyuha allatheena amanooitha noodiya lilssalati min yawmi aljumuAAati faisAAaw (plural form) ila thikri Allahiwatharoo albayAAa thalikum khayrun lakum in kuntumtaAAlamoona

In 2183 Allah uses the plural form (3alaykum) and not (3alayka) and We are concerned by this commands (siyam).

                    1. O you who believe, fasting is decreed for you (3alaykum) as it was decreed for those (allatheena) before you perhaps you may be (laAAallakum) righteous.

In 7320 Allah enjoins us to study the quran when we can, there is no time to learn from the quran.
We study the quran in order to establish the god system / to establish the salat (iqamat assalat)

                    1. Your Lord knows that you rise a little less than two thirds of the night, and half of it, and one third of it, as well as a group of those who are with you. And God measures the night and the day. He knows that you will not be able to keep-up, so He pardons you. So study what is made easy of the Quran. He knows that there will be sick among you, and others that venture out in the land seeking from God?s bounty, and others who are fighting in the cause of God, so study what you can of it. And hold the salat and contribute towards betterment and give God a loan of righteousness. And whatever you put forth yourselves, you will find it with God, for it is better and a greater reward. And seek God?s forgiveness, for God is Forgiving, Merciful.

Inna rabbaka yaAAlamu annaka taqoomu adnamin thuluthayi allayli wanisfahu wathuluthahu wata-ifatunmina allatheena maAAaka waAllahu yuqaddiruallayla waalnnahara AAalima an lan tuhsoohufataba AAalaykum faiqraoo ma tayassara minaalqur-ani AAalima an sayakoonu minkum marda waakharoona yadriboona fee al-ardi yabtaghoona min fadliAllahi waakharoona yuqatiloona fee sabeeliAllahi faiqraoo ma tayassara minhu waaqeemoo alssalata waatoo alzzakatawaaqridoo Allaha qardan hasanan wamatuqaddimoo li-anfusikum min khayrin tajidoohu AAinda Allahihuwa khayran waaAAthama ajran waistaghfirooAllaha inna Allaha ghafoorun raheemun

                    Any comments appreciated

                      Dear Yankee Doodle

Thanks for reminding me at the right time.

Your question still haunts me and undoubtedly has logic and cannot be avoided.

If we believe that words of Allah are perfect then the SALAAT at dawn and dusk should be valid in any part of the world. However, when this format of dawn and dusk salaat fails when applied in the Northern hemisphere, there remains no option, except to reconsider the meaning of the verse.

An Excellent and informative post by Marie From the reading I understand that there were some commands, which were directed to the prophet only and not to the followers.

The question of Yankee and the explanation of Marie fit like hand in the glove.

The command to observe salaat at dawn and dusk is not possible in the Northern hemisphere; therefore this command is without doubt directed only to the prophet.

                      Thanks Yankee and Marie.

                        Marie,

Perfect answer from the Al-Qur'an, which is one of the reason I need to really brush up my knowledge of second hand Arabic to know now that Aqimoo and Aqimi means you.

For many years I have always had doubt about this verse but now I can rest easy.

                        Thanks and much appreciated.

may be its my missunderstanding , to me there is a morning and eve - salaat , but having read your post have you said there could not possibly be a morn and eve salat because those few ayats are only for the messenger;please explain.regards.

                              Salaams marie,
may be its my missunderstanding , to me there is a morning and eve - salaat , but having read your post have you said there could not possibly be a morn and eve salat because those few ayats are only for the messenger;please explain.regards.

I do not have other arguments.

The verses 4102-103, 11114 and 1778 are connected and we have to consider their context.

We are not told to establish the salat at dawn and at dusk. Only messenger is concerned by these verses 11114 and 1778.

The verb 'aqama' (to establish) is used in the second person and not in the plural form in 11114 and 1778.

The question of YankeeDoodle is relevant

Taking the northern hemisphere as an example ;during summer at latitudes beyond 66 degrees North the sun does not set at all so how do you abide to the dawn and dusk salat??

This is the same salat for all whatever the geographical situation.

Allah enjoins us to study the quran and to establish the salat whatever the time (7320).

The salat is a scheduled book for the messenger and the the believers at the time of the prophet (4102-103, 11114 and 1778 ).

There is no verse directed to us in order to establish the salat at the prescribed time.

We read always "aqueemoo (establish in the plural form) the salat" without precision of time.

You have the quran at home to study it and you can make it when you want.
This is not the case at the time of the prophet, the quran was not entirely revealed, it is done gradually. The prophet and the believers establish the salat during these two times (learning of the divine commands..).

If the prophet is still alive and the quran is not entirely revealed, certainly we are concerned by the verse 4103, the salat is a scheduled book in order to learn gradually from the prophet the divne commands...etc.

                              Allah knows best

                              Marie

Peace be upon you Marie, Yd and all,

I have debated for a very long time that "salaat" was maintained at dawn and dusk, literally.

After thinking this through, I have no choice but to humbly submit to yor argument REGARDING TIMING.

At once I thought that the place where the sun did not set for a long time was a place that was punishingly cold, so I reasoned no one belonged there, but I have learned otherwise.

Therefore I humbly state that I was incorrect regarding dawn and dusk, and that they have a deeper meaning than the literal dawn and dusk.

However, I still debate that the word "salaat" indicates the learning process, not commitments, because we are told to uphold the covenant already, there is no need to repeat that with another word.

Further, there are too many verses indicating speech for "salaat" to be commitments.

                                Please share your views.

                                  peace,

wow this was a great post, good job@Marie and all for proving that two daily solaa was only a commandment for the messenger, this gives more rise to the possible correctness of definitions such as "commitments" or "divine system"

However, I still debate that the word "salaat" indicates the learning process, not commitments, because we are told to uphold the covenant already, there is no need to repeat that with another word.

what do you think "the covenant" is idolfree? I think the pledge to uphold the covenant is the overall agreement to uphold the commitments, serve none next to God, etc. I believe commitments are part of our covenant, in analogy terms The Covenant is the ultimate promise while our commitments are sanctions within that overall promise, like I say "do you promise not to do bad things?" and you say yes, that is the overall covenant, but bad things include murdering, stealing, adultery, etc. which you promised not to do in a general sense, these are the promises within the overall covenant

                                    Thanks for your support brother

In 7320, we are told to study the quran and to extablish the salat. I undestand this as to study the quran and to follow closely what we read / learn.

This article is about the meaning of the salat, it is written by our brother Hamed Mirghani and I found it is very interesting

                                      Peace be upon you Idris,

for proving that two daily solaa was only a commandment for the messenger

I think we are missing the point by saying that it was only for another person ONLY. The God does not command single beings, he guides humanity. I think what was proven is that the command it to EACH OF US singularly. The God creates an emphasis tha we EACH must maintain salaat.

The word "muhammad" implies one who is appreciative. We are to all struggle to be appreciative. We are all to spread the clear message. I am not a beleiver that there are some verses for a man named "ahmad/muhammad" and some for everyone else. It is a universal message.

what do you think "the covenant" is idolfree? I think the pledge to uphold the covenant is the overall agreement to uphold the commitments, serve none next to God, etc. I believe commitments are part of our covenant, in analogy terms The Covenant is the ultimate promise while our commitments are sanctions within that overall promise, like I say "do you promise not to do bad things?" and you say yes, that is the overall covenant, but bad things include murdering, stealing, adultery, etc. which you promised not to do in a general sense, these are the promises within the overall covenant

In the above example, you equate "bad things" with "covenant" as an example. That doesn't make sense to me becuase if we take covenant as a "general" desription, "commitments" is just as general, because it does not specify ANY SINGLE commitment. Do you see that?

So we can say "uphold the covenant",

or we can say "uphold the commitments",

Both are general statements, neither clarifies the other in more detail.

Further, there is more than one verse regardiong salaat that involves SPEECH.

Salaat IS one of the commitments of the covenant, not the covenant itself.

                                        Peace Kyle,

We agree, the quran is universal message, but you cannot deny that some verses are only directed to the prophet and examples are numerous.
Could you say that this verse 4102 could be applied for you?

When Allah speaks to us , the plural form is used instead of the singular form.

Why Allah use the singular form (aqimi) instead the plural form (aqueemoo) for these verses 11114 and 1778?

Whay Allah use the plural forum (AAalaykum) instead of the singular form (AAalayka) in 283 when we are told that the siyam (fasting) is decreed for US as it was decreed for those before Us?

The singular form and the plural form are not interchangeable.

                                          peace Hafeez,

I dont understand why you debate with me in a manner that implies I somehow uphold the salat=prayer understanding. This portion of your response was redundant. Although I did enjoy reading extracts from the traditional hadith showing how the understanding of the verse may have become corrupted. I like it when I experience another 'click' as another thing fits into place. My thread on "wusta" destroyed the traditional understanding, imho.

When you say darkness = zulam, I am not of the opinion only one specific Arabic word means one specific thing and no other Arabic word can mean the same. Whilst participating in PRL, I have realised this is not the case (e.g. it seems many Arabic words mean perished).

See 1133. I would concede as a minimum that ghasaq = darkening (i.e. in the process of becoming fully dark). I still think the logic implies "darkness" though.

About rukban, from all the other occurrences of the root I can see, it means to ride/mount/embark or refers to an animal that can be mounted.

Can you provide one other verse that supports your understanding of rkb = retinue escort?

                                          Wakas

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.
