Women's Singing and Qur'an Recitation in Public

I didn't want to start a new thread and thought this question might fit in here.
Does anyone know where I can find / download recitations by a woman? I have done some searching, but apart from the above mentioned recitor, all I can find are YouTube videos of girls reciting the Qur'an. But I don't like these, I'd prefer to have a recitation by a woman with a nice voice.
Any help would be highly appreciated. peace

As far as I can remember Omm Kalthum started her carreer by reciting Qur'an in public and the world doesn't seem to have ended since she did such a perilous thing. But obviously back then people were not modern enough. Modern people need this kind of thing to spice life, forbid as much as possible, and also sistematically anything women can do.

QuestionWould it be okay for a woman to sing naats or qasidas in public gatherings? What about Quran recitation in public? If this is not okay, would it be okay for either in a case wherein it is done anonymously from behind a screen?
AnswerWalaikum assalam,
It is permitted for them to do so if it is solely in the presence of women, in such a manner that strange men would not be able to hear it, and no other impermissible matter was associated with it.
It is not permitted for men to listen to the singing or recitation of strange (non-mahram) women, whether it is with or without the fear of fitna. It does not matter whether this takes place from behind a screen, a recording, or otherwise, because it is established in the primary texts that a woman's voice can lead to fitna. As such, it may not be used in ways that could be expected to lead to it.
As for talking to someone of the opposite gender, if there is a reasonable need, it is permitted to the extent of the reasonable need, and disliked otherwise.

Respect.I believe more women should definetely step up and speak in public gatherings, like the one we have in London in Hyde Park. It's called Speaker's Corner and just today there was this woman talkin to another woman about Jesus. The discussion was outstanding.

Egypt Women reciting Quran in spotlight
Egypt's women have already made inroads into several one-time domains of men. But a suggestion to allow women to recite Islam's holy book the Quran in public has triggered sharp differences among Muslim clerics in this country recently swept by a wave of Islamism.
"Such calls echo a Western agenda," said Mohammad Al Barri, a cleric at Al Azhar, Sunni Islam's influential seat of learning. "There is no clear text in the Quran or the Prophet Mohammad's sunna that women recited the Holy Quran in front of men. Should this happen, there would be a big sedition, which we should avoid by all means," Al Barri told a seminar at the Egyptian Press Syndicate this week.
More than two years ago, Egypt appointed its first women judges. However, a vigorous campaign to empower women, led by Mubarak's wife, has faced stiff opposition from Muslim fundamentalists, say observers.
"The only place where women can read the Holy Quran is in the presence of other women," Al Barri, the Al Azhar scholar, said. "Letting a woman read in front of men would tempt them, thereby earning her and them God's wrath instead of His contentment."
Official ceremonies are usually opened with verses from the Quran, which are always recited by male shaikhs.
Likewise, Egypt's Muslims usually hire male reciters to read from the Holy Quran in the presence of male mourners in memory of their departed relatives. Never have women reciters been seen doing this.
"Women should have the right to recite the Holy Quran in public," said Souad Saleh, a well-known woman Muslim preacher. She told the same seminar that women's voices are not enticing and as such should not be suppressed.

I think Tarkan was the 2nd Turkish singer I listened to (the first being Mustafa Sandal).
Isn't Tarkan gay? Or kind of gay-ish? I dunno, I don't find him attractive. That's just me though....

Why would some sects of Islam find any justification for banning something as beautiful and enjoyable as singing?

Well when one tries to learn about something and it changes all the time it is quite difficult to know what is true and false.
Irrational banning has done by many religious institutions, and it is not exclusive to some sects of Islam. I can mention some, but there will be no point. I'd rather focus on the good and not the bad, from other religions. Don't start reading with any pre-conceived views, or desire to criticise/find any flaws. Use open-minded and logical approach, then you're bound to discover the truth.

Men have a lot more control than some scholars (and hadith writers) seem to think. In the west women wear quite revealing clothing, work with men, drink and socialise with men and if the above were true it would be untenable. Yet somehow women here manage not to get raped everyday. Strange that...
I was told/advised to stop singing one day. I was in a small room with no windows to the outside (no, it wasn't prison, but thanks for asking ) so who could have heard aside from the person who told me I shouldn't sing...a mahram. For flips sake!!! Let a girl enjoy doing the dishes!!!
