My story.

Asalaam Alaykum brothers and sisters.
I am a married woman, mother of three adult children and grandmother of a beautiful little girl. I am soooo glad to discover this site, you can't imagine. I was born and raised up in a catholic family, sit on catholic schools etc. At the age of 11 years, I had, like many of you I read in the mean time, my doubts about a lot of things in catholic religion. For me Jesus wasn't the son of God and he surely didn't take all the sins of the world on his shoulders. I didn't accept that. It was really strange when during the office, we had to say the testimony of faith, I left out a lot sentences.... growing up, I left church completly. My husband also came from a very catholic family and growing up you can say he loosse his faith completly. I didn't.... in all those years I always believed in God and search the truth. So I read a lot.... hundreds of books about all possible religions other christians like protestants of different schools (batipts, reformed, mormons, Jehova's witnesses, .... orthodox. Judaisme, Buddhisme, new-age, wicca, paganisme..... Islam? Yes, but not much... the reason was simple the news, the wars, the terrorist attacks, my sunni-hanafi-muslim neigbours..... Till a year ago, I begun to chat with a very nice muslim couple of the middle-east.... They are very good friends and even if they call themselves sunni-muslims, during the many chats and phone-calls on skype we had, I know they are very liberal. 7 months ago, I did the shahada, alone at home.... Hm, but now, I had to find a masjid and community to go. That was another problem, I don't know why but most community's I examined here in Belgium, came over as really extreme.... but finally I did go to a masjid near my city, again a Sunni-Hanafi-Turqish community. They were nice, but a fews problems were talked over first my husband.... 'O he doesn't convert?, he is not a muslim?' hmmhmmm 'well because you did the shahada before Allah, we accept you as a muslim and we give your husband two years time.'..... Two years for what???? And what after those two years? Would they force me to divorce if he still don't convert?.... This bottered me. My husband always let me free in my religion, he always accepted that I believed in God, but converting to Islam???? He declared me foolish, stupid.... 'How can you, in a few years you also will be dressed in a burqa or with a niqab, go live their.... go to Aghanistan, go to Saoudi and see for yourself.' was his a bit angry reaction. Being the only revert in my family, the only people I could talk with over my faith, were my friends of the middle-east. Really, they are great people and they helped me a lot. After a few weeks I joined Madina.com, a forum for muslims.... Hm, I hoped to talk with other muslims too... yes, well.... Here it begun ' O I hope you wear hijab! ' O no color hijab, that is not modest. Cover your hands during the salat,... see that everything is covered except your face...' Well, I must say I met some real nice sisters too and strangly I remarqued quickly that revert-sisters were a lot more excessive than some born-muslims, who were/are sometimes more tolerant. Now I have a few good muslim-sisters who really also became good friends.... Last week, I put some picture on my profile from my two saluki-dogs OMG!!!! what a reactions!!!!! Immediatly I received a lot of comments, with all different hadiths, telling me that having dogs was haram.... I did reply them that this wasn't mentioned in the Quran.... Than I don't see the problem. If God would forbid holding dogs, I am sure it would be written in the Quran.... So I searched internet and found this site....My middle-east friends always told me that nobody has the right to takfir another muslim brother or sister. They always told me read the Quran... Ask guidance to God....but the majority of muslims always talk a lot of hadiths.... they takfir easily. And it did botter me more than once that they idolate Mohammad, saw, practicly like christians idolate Jesus. .... No, I am glad I found this site God-alone is sufficient. Fi aman Allah. -

Did you ask the hadith followers who said that you should divorce your husband because he is not a hadith follower about the saying that divorce is one of the most hated things by God?
Islam stands for peace and does not give us permission to hurt others. Considering the importance that God places on family unit/relationship, I'd consider it un-islamic to even suggest divorcing your husband. Divorce is one of the most painful of human experiences regardless of the reasons and it affects not just the couple but the entire family. To even suggest a mother and a grandmother to divorce her husband is beyond wrong. Well, my brain simply cannot comprehend it.
So the hadith followers want you to do what....divorce your husband, cause a lot of pain in your family and then you are to marry another hadith follower or stay single! And what exactly will you tell your granddaughter and what values will you be teaching her?
With your love, patience, commitment and understanding, your husband may also join you on the path that you are on. this is what Islam(God) is all about. PEACE

peace be upon you. you are a very smart sister! i am proud to call you sister! i am originally from Latvia, now in usa-had all of the EXACT same things happen to me, except husabdn-i left mine in Latvia-to tell you the truth, about hijab-i wear it and love it, do you know why? i have hot pink, purple, green, all colors, and i am overweight, so a nice abaya and colorful hijab makes me look much nicer than t-shirt and poants! try it sometime only if you wish! God bless you, sister! keep it between yourself and God, ALWAYS, and ignore the Mohammedans, because they DO idolate, you are right! most can quote a hadeeth on ANY subkject, but do NOT know what is in the Koran! i have a dog too, and he is not going ANYWHERE! he loves to pray with us! every time my son and i put doen our prayer rughs, there he is, right with us! our cat does the same thing! they have a natural relationship with their creator! write to me anytime, sister! and dont listen to fools or fairy tales! iwas catholic most of my life (now single mom 47 years old), and always loved jesus, mary, but always too, had questions of how 3 people could be on God....consider me your friend anytime! sun
