Blessed Abstinence
roll rollPeace be upon Warda,
Ramadan starts in Europe on Friday, 15th. When does it start at your locations?
I think it starts on the 15th here in the US too, but I am not sure. You see the "imams" who run our local mosques and hoard money instead of glorifying God, don't answer telephone calls when we call them to inquire about such blessed days. Another pagan ritual I might add )
I wish for everybody a peaceful time to enjoy the opening of heart and spirit!
Me too!

Salaam to you all,
I begun my fasting according the calendar of br Layth and it says the first day of Ramadhan would be the 14th of October.
So today is my sixth day of fasting.
Are you going to fast for 10 days or the whole month?
Peace
and have a blessed saumSister Majidah

In France, abstinence began on October 15th after the full moon "invisible " (October 14th)
I'm going to abstain the whole month Insha`Allah.
Blessed abstinence for you all

Salaam,
But do all disbelieve in Layth?
What about those 10 days?Peace
Sis Majidah -
Salaam Sister Marie,
No I didn't follow that thread but I have read through all post now.
Funny how different people understand a verse from Quran.
I have recently met people who think we shall not fast at all and that salat and saum isn't at all ritual acts.
Oh I really wished that the 10 days theory was true because I think more people would be fasting Ramadhan if it was only 10 days.
But Ramadhan must be alot more then just abstinence because what is the meaning to stay away from food and water, I mean the poor people will not be richer if I do that.
It must have a higher meaning.
Peace
Sister MajidahSis Majidah,
Our understanding evolves and we don't hold the absolute truth
Did you read my message in this thread?
Several Questions On Ramadan
-
Salaam Sister Majidah,
Oh I really wished that the 10 days theory was true because I think more people would be fasting Ramadhan if it was only 10 days.
I really can't imagine that "10 days" would be enough. Six days now (or seven days for some) and I am just starting to adjust to Ssiyamm. So imagine if it would end in the next four days, what feelings/lessons would I have gained in such a short period?
Around four weeks time is good length to get the true taste of Ramadhan, because, strangely, the days of Ramadhan are really and incerdibly the fastest. Look, already one quarter is gone; in a blink of an eye, if I may add!
About your wish that more people would fast if Ramadhan was ten days, honestly, Majidah, I never heard anyone say "If only Ramadhan was just one week, or ten days or two weeks". Those who fasted never complained and those who didn't, never really cared! But Ramadhan must be a lot more then just abstinence because what is the meaning to stay away from food and water, I mean the poor people will not be richer if I do that.
It must have a higher meaning.I agree on the first part and the last. Ramadhan is much more than that, but how much more can we give up to it? If you can give up more than just food and water, then go ahead, the more you give up and the more you give from yourself (without risking your health and well-being) in this blessed month, the more you will get in return
And it is not that the poor will get richer, I disagree with you over that middle part, as the keys of fortune are in Allah?s Hands.
I believe that it is those who fast who will get richer, richer at heart. You cannot give to the poor if you yourself are demanding and needy. Ssiyamm is about you not others. Think of the life-jacket example! In case of emergency, you have to wear the life-jacket first and save your own life before you try to save others. The self-discipline and the control over the impulses should make you feel secured enough and strong enough to lend a hand and help those who are broke and helpless. That is, briefly, the way I see it.Taj

Salaam Taj,
I said those things to test you guys in free-minds.
I know what saum is and why we do it.I have always fasted a whole month of Ramadhan but it was because of Layth and his confusing 10 days form of Ramadhan that I had enough.
Don't you see how important it is to be careful what you are saying in public.
God is everywhere and he see what we are doing and what we are thinking.

Please forgive my ignorance, Sister Majidah, but I am wondering what you mean with your statements!
