Just a thought for the Muslims on the pork thing, as a Jew- we do not question why God gave the kosher laws. God never really says why in the Bible, we just accept them or don't. It's viewed to be an obedience thing or a spiritual discipline.

Does deuteronomy 175 also fall in the category of blind-acceptance and non-questioning 'obedience' and 'spiritual discipline' ?

A lot of that stuff was for that society you know, plus a lot of these laws were hard to carry out, cause they require so many witnesses and such a specific nature of witness.

Haha, and you are not even ashamed of saying this. How about Lev 2013 ?

Lordfox well many of the Rabbis believe that to be about Pagan sex rites or something as that whole section of Leviticus is clarified by "after the manner of the Egyptians you will not do, and after the manner of the Canaanites you will not do."

Its more about obscure sex rites then homosexual love.

              Salaam,

My understanding of Qur'aanic dietary rule is that, the food must be both halaal and clean/pure. Just because a certain food is not classifies as haraam, it does not always mean it is okay to consume it. We need to ensure that the food is clean/pure. Then again, the definition of "clean" or "pure" will be different with different individuals. Ultimately, I believe that we should exercise our judgement to determine is the food we consume is clean/pure or not. For example, I hold the opinion that chemical-loaded food is not clean/pure, hence it is best to avoid. So preserved beef, while halaal in nature, may not be clean/pure because it contains a lot of chemicals that are damaging to one's health. Hence, I believe such food should not be consumed.

Coming back to the original question

I ask If this is the reason, then why is the Qu'ran silent on the many other unhealthy foods ?

I believe the Qur'aan has already commanded us to not consume unhealthy foods, by stating that we should eat good and pure things. The list of unhealthy foods is endless, and it will be tedious to mention each healthy food.

Pigs, I believe areunclean. Yet, many people see them as livestocks, and do not hesitate to eat them. Hence why I believe it is the one animal that is singled out in the Qur'aan.

Its actully submission; i.e. aligning yourself with the views of our Creator; if God says not to go near that tree, or not to eat pork we, as his servants should be grateful for the rest of the blessings bestowed on us, and not insist on finding out why one thing is singled out as prohibitted.

This is EXACTLY what I am saying.

1 - Allah clearly says we are "allowed" to eat all of the foods which are "good and pure" (Hence establishes the only reason why a certain food would be not "allowed" - that is, because it is not "good and pure&quot
2 - Allah says that one is not "allowed" to eat Pork
3 - We know that Pork is not "good and pure"
4 - Allah does not speak of the rest of the foods which are not "good and pure" in the Qu'ran because there are tons of it
5 - Hence, the verse "prohibiting" the consumption of Pork is a conceptual verse and includes not only "Pork" but all of the foods which are not "good and pure"

Its actully submission; i.e. aligning yourself with the views of our Creator; if God says not to go near that tree, or not to eat pork we, as his servants should be grateful for the rest of the blessings bestowed on us, and not insist on finding out why one thing is singled out as prohibitted.

While you have faith, I personally am trying to attain certainty by understanding each and every concept, prohibition, allowance etc. within the Qu'ran.

Yes it is about having faith in God's judgement, but that does not mean we are not to do our research. I for one know from studies that amino acid in pigs are very similar to those of the human being. Pigs meat even tastes similar to human meat, according to those who have tried both. Could this be the reason for prohibition? I don't know.

Ultimately, I think this is the correct answer. We can discuss our personal thoughts on why swine's flesh might be forbidden for believers, but we can't actually probe God's intentions behind these verses, so any discussion on the subject will necessarily be speculative. Thus it seems more reasonable to simply surrender to the unknowability of the issue and submit to God's expressed will regardless.

God Almighty is the most wise, the Knowledgable.
God Almighty is the BEST planner, thus he would not play dice

God Almighty has put diet regulation on the children of Israel before us in order that they may be "holy/pure".... and if you look into their dietary regulation,
Just an example not to eat of fish without scales = fish without scales are more inclined to absorb more toxins into their flesh

Unto use, the meat of pigs are prohibited... pigs eat their feces, their own kind (canabilistic) etc....
they might carry worms, parasites etc and that can wind up into their flesh... Is this not a reason not to abstain? The meat of pigs is deemed impure (6145)

For the Prohibition of the Meat of Pigs, notice it is the MEAT of pigs and NOT the fat or the bones etc. One can logically eat the fat of pigs (lard), etc. Notice that the Prohibition on the Jews in 6146 is the FAT of some animals except in certain parts of their bodies. However, MEAT is not prohibited.

The fat of pigs is not mentioned as forbidden.

In 6146, we see that the jews had a seemingly opposite dietary prohibition. They are not allowed to eat the FAT of certain animals which is found in certain parts of their bodies.
HOWEVER, no mention is made of the MEAT of those animals, thus they can eat the meat of such animals.

The opposite would be true for us, we are prohibited from eating the MEAT of pigs, but not the fat.

Moreover, we are not prohibited from using pig meat or pig fat, as they maybe found in cleaning products and cosmetics etc. (i think the traditional view is that these products are forbidden)

(the controversy might be about the skin absorbing these products)
I would say that the fat of pigs could be used, since technically we are allowed to consume the fat of pigs, and i just research about amino acids and found that the skin is NOT able to absorbe them (however, please check with creams/lotions/topicals/cosmetics if they have swine-derived amino acids, and especially with make-up as mascara. Putting these products on an open wound or cut might bring in Swine Amino acids into your body)

"I researched skin absorbtion and my opinion is that amino acids like lysine or glycine cannot be abosorbed from the skin. I am not sure about Vitamin C. The reason why amino acids cannot be absorbed through the skin because the major route of transepidermal absorption is through intercellular lipids (this material consists of ceramides, long chan FFA and cholesterol). The corneocytes or outer skin cells contain amino acids and proteins inside the cell protected by a lipid membrane. Amino acids are hydrophilic and therefore do not dissolve in lipid or fat and hence cannot pass either the corneocyte cell membrane or the intercellular lipid pathway."
