Walekum Salam, Welcome to the forum!

I can relate very much to your trepidation. I am fairly new to Islam but my personality and analytical mind have always approached it with a "show me proof" attitude, which inherently means that it will take a long time (if not forever) to understand/read/reflect on the Quran and its meanings. In the meantime I started to practice salat, fast for Ramadan, go to mosque, etc...but even on the intuitive level I have also felt something was "wrong" with many of the traditions I began to adapt. For example, I first began using a translated version of the prayer and every time I recited the passages about Mohammed I felt a strange feeling deep in my stomach. Somehow, I just knew it didn't fit. And now after joining this forum, I understand that my subconscious was recognizing it as worshiping someone other than God.

I also have a husband who was born Muslim - a Sunni. We have already had many heated discussions because he takes everything he was taught at face value and I take nothing at face value. He feels frustrated that I won't allow him to "lead me the right way" and that "i always need proof." And I am very anxious as to what his reaction will be now that I have found others who are reinforcing my initial arguments. If there is anyone who has any advice about how I can make peace with my husband while at the same time sharing my spiritual journey with him, I would be very appreciative.

    uuummm rough

be prepared for more arguments but argue in the best way. Maintain your love and sense of humor
Don't panic. Allah chose you to help those who would be guided. Let me relate a story

My wife and I were sunni
one day she say's to me "close the closet"!
    I say to her why?
she say's "because the jinn hides in dark places"
so I say to her "so the jinn is in the closet doing what for 24 hours a day"
she thinks, laughs then reply's "I don't know"
then I say "poor jinn needs something to do, that has to very boring."
So we both shared a light moment.
My point is, give it time, you are also unlike me dealing with the male ego O0

Muhammad Forbidden from Issuing Any Religious Teachings

This is the utterance of an honorable messenger.

Not the utterance of a poet; rarely do you believe.

Nor the utterance of a soothsayer; rarely do you take heed.

A revelation from the Lord of the universe.

Had he uttered any other teachings.

    We would have punished him.

We would have stopped the revelations to him.

None of you could have helped him.

This is a reminder for the righteous.

We know; some of you are rejectors.

It is but sorrow for the disbelievers.

    It is the absolute truth.

    Peace

I might suggest do not follow only the Quran.. ))
Yet follow your conscience.. as God often spoke through it...

Saying Qur'an shouldn't be followed is outright kufr, I'm afraid. It means one doesn't trust or believe in God.

follow the good and leave the bad, from whatever source.

        Peace,

        Verse 285

After this it is ye, the same people, who slay among yourselves, and banish a party of you from their homes; assist (Their enemies) against them, in guilt and rancour; and if they come to you as captives, ye ransom them, though it was not lawful for you to banish them. Then is it only a part of the Book that ye believe in, and do ye reject the rest? but what is the reward for those among you who behave like this but disgrace in this life?- and on the Day of Judgment they shall be consigned to the most grievous penalty. For God is not unmindful of what ye do.

God and Quran is different entity..

Don't idolize the Quran.. it was written by human, translated / explained by human..
Many people 'hide behind the Quran' to support their own twisted opinion..

It's mind boggling, to trust a book, a dead matter, written by human hands more than your own conscience..

And why Kufr? Kufr is "Hiding/covering the truth"..
But in any case... so be it... as it's coming from you anyway.. who do you think you are?

          Salam / Peace

Good for you and you should..

do you want us muslims to believe as you believe Jafar
              Are you muslim?

              1. Define what is muslim to you... and I'll answer that.. being a muslim has NO CORRELATION with Quran.. as evidenced by stories in the Quran itself...
              2. No I don't want YOU to believe as I believe.. I want YOU to believe as your heart tells you to believe... not what a dead matter / book written by human hands and explained by Imams told you to believe..

Where do you find your point of view Jafar?
Where do you get your information?

My own conscience tell me that..
Where did Abraham get his inspiration from? Quran? A book?
Where did Noah get his inspiration from? A book? Hardly.. paper is not yet invented during his time...

Where did Pharaoh get his inspiration from? A book called the "Book Of The Dead".. written by human hands and authorized by the egyptian high priest..
It was the egyptians who initially thought of an idea for 'a book' (a scroll to be exact) which EVERYBODY should buy (and of course sold and available through the priest) to be 'saved' on afterlife.... Those who didn't have the book and/or disbelieve on it shall not earn any 'immortality'.. (hmmm sounds familiar???)

well my friend I don't want to beat up on you too bad, but I could all day and night.

              No problems..
I'm used to be called "Kuffars", "Murtaad", "Satan" by the ignorant sectarians...

              Salam / Peace

                Peace jafar.

I agree that a book is just that" a book", and we should not idolise a book. But the word of GOD has to be written somewhere, it happens to be in a book.

Now, are you saying GOD did not send a message? Do you believe the "Qoran" is the word of GOD? If not Who is the author?

Did GOD send any message at all? Do you believe in GOD? Do you believe in prophets/ messengers of GOD? Where is their message?

As for your point of view, you are entitled to it, but it is just that, an opinion. Bring your proof/ justification if you are truthful.

Let us have some solid proof/ argument the " Qoran" is not the word of GOD.
                Peace.

The Qur'an is the truth revealed by God. We may misinterpret some verses, but that doesn't mean that the Qur'an is unreliable. We should strive to improve our understanding.

What can I say to you? Do you want GOD to come down and speak to you personally ? Through the messenger HE says

4144 If We made it a non- Arabic Koran,( scripture) they would have said why did it come down in that language.( Whatever language GOD chooses, there is always those who want it in a different one? and those who do not believe it is the word of GOD) Whether it is Arabic or non-Arabic ( It happens to be Arabic because the messenger was Arab! GOD sent the Torah in Hebrew, the language of the children of Israel and Jesus spoke Aramaic ,so the Gospel came in Aramaic) Say? For those who believe, it is a guide and healing; As for those who disbelieve, they will be deaf and blind to it ( Even if they were pure Arabs!) as if they were addressed from far away.? ( Nowadays no language is a barrier! The message is more important than the language! More importantly if GOD is the author, HE guides with HIS words those who choose to be guided?)

4145 ( When) We have given Moses ( and Jesus) the scripture , it was also disputed. If it were not for your Lord s predetermined decision, ( To allow you a life to make your decision) they would have been judged immediately. Indeed, they harbour too many doubts.?

Are you sure you checked them verses?

                                  Peace.

If there is anyone who has any advice about how I can make peace with my husband while at the same time sharing my spiritual journey with him, I would be very appreciative.

                                    cellobykasia,

Welcome. I have absolutely NO advice for you...but I offer my support anytime you need it. My husband is extremely stubborn, and I know if I told him I was leaning towards rejecting hadith, he would have me on the phone with so many of his other Muslim buddies warning me of the consequences of doing such.

My husband is what I call a "fire and brimstone Muslim", LOL! He can tell you every place that warns of the hellfire and who is going to burn for what, but mention the mercy and forgiveness of Allah (swt) and he shuts down. I don't understand why someone would want to worship and serve God when that is all they see in the Quran. To each his own, though.

I was like your husband when I first came to Islam...I took everything at face value. Over time, I began to scrutinize much more, and now I just tune out whenever my husband begins to talk about Islam because if I give my opinion, it starts an argument. I just listen half heartedly to keep peace.

Everyday I make dua that Allah (swt) guides me in the right direction. That is the best I can do at this point in time.

                                    With peace,

                                    Amina

As Salaam Alaykum. As my name says, I am scared. Scared of what I have learned, but feel I have known all along...that a majority of Muslims follow the Prophet Muhammed (saws) over God. So often I would scratch my head at the "rituals" I was told to perform (like the pointing of the finger during salat, saying "bismillah" when entering the house, asking protection when entering the bathroom, etc.). It seemed so...I can't seem to find the word today, must be from the fasting P.

So I have spent the better part of the day reading up on Qu'ran only Muslims. I agree with so much of what it says, but am terrified that I will be a kafir for walking away from hadith. How can something that so many others follow be so wrong?

I guess my answer to that could be equated with how so many Christians observe Christmas and Easter, even though the Bible never says to do it.

I am married with a daughter, my husband came to Islam while incarcerated in prison, even though his father was Muslim (and is also incarcerated). I am the only Muslim in my family, other than a distant cousin. I was raised Christian and for a while studied with Jehovahs Witnesses. Of course, they too commit shirk and once I realized that, I came to Islam.

Please forgive me if I seem shattered...I am terrified...I have no idea what is right anymore.

                                          welcome handshake sun
although we've had some posts with each other, i actually haven't had the chance to greet you in this forum and i'm currently in a greetings spree hehe,

on the fear that you have, if i were you, i'd be alleviated by looking at these verses

with a note that muslims will go to heaven regardless of their aymaan(oath/creed/religion/covenant) as long as they stay true to the definition of being in peace and in good
