Article on dietary prohibitions

It's been a while since I read some articles on the site and after a discussion with my wife, I stumbled upon the Free-Minds.org article on dietary prohibitions in Islam (http//www.free-minds.org/dietary-prohibitions). In this article, I was disturbed by the following excerpt
"Slaughtering an animal without mentioning God?s name at the time of slaughter makes the animal forbidden. This is to acknowledge God?s gift of the livestock to the Children of Adam which have been highlighted in many verses and for which the entire Pilgrimage is designed (see 222."

Remembering GOD is thanking HIM for providing the food for us.
" Bismi allah" , thank you GOD, ... The intention is to remember it is Allah who provides.
It is one of many ways to remember Allah. Apart from that it is not specified how. It doesnot really matter how you remember as long as you do.

I have not implied that "Allah" is a name.I have said " In the name of Allah" . When you start a chapter What do you say?

Nice that you say "In the name of Allah", but do you say only this or do you take His name(s) also?
BismiAllah does not mean in the name of Allah, so I say, as it is written.

GOD book is fully detailed. If there was anything else prohibited He would have added it in .
You are right however in your detail study that GOD is saying what is good for us to eat.

Thanks for your answers and views so far. If everyone agrees that mentioning God's name during slaughter is not an absolute requirement for meat to be lawful, can't this excerpt be removed from this article?

Support for "remember" at slaughter versus "mention" at slaughter.
6119 And why should you not eat that on which the name of GOD has been mentioned , when He has fully detailed to you what has been made unlawful; except what you are forced to? Many misguide by their desires without knowledge; your Lord is fully aware of the transgressors.
82 The believers are those whom, when GOD is mentioned , their hearts reverence; and when His revelations are recited to them, it increases their faith; and they put their trust in their Lord.
3135 And those who, if they commit lewdness, or wrong themselves, they remember GOD and seek forgiveness for their sins. And who can forgive the sins except GOD? And they do not persist in what they have done while they know.
2236 And the plump livestock, We have made them for you to be among the symbols of GOD; you will have benefit in them. So mention the name of GOD upon them in succession; then, once their sides have become still, you may eat from them and feed with them the poor and the needy. It was thus that We have made them in service to you, that you may be thankful.
774 "And remember that He made you successors after 'Aad, and He established you in the land so that you make palaces on its plains, and you carve homes in the mountains. So remember the grace of GOD, and do not roam the earth as corrupters."

I read your article, but since the article doesn't mention slaughter anywhere, it still leaves me wondering regarding my question. Are you saying ritual slaughter is a requirement or not?

Salaam and hello brother,
When Allah did not mention of slaughtering then it is not required, I should say, we have to remember Allah's name while killing the animal for food. No ritual slaughter is required. Instead better to cut off animals head in one shot to avoid torturing that poor animal, so that the animal should not feel pain.
We have to understand that Allah made them to feed us not to torture them.
