Why is Abraham considered so great? wern't there others like him in the world?

It is inconsistent that God ranks the messengers yet tells us to treat them all as equals.
http//c00022506.cdn1.cloudfiles.rackspacecloud.com/17_55.png
It is very important to understand how Allah gives preference to some over others, remember all of these prophets were pious and righteous, that is why they were chosen amongst billions. But still when allah says that some are preferred over others it clearly indicates that some are on higher ranks than others.
Offcourse we are told not to make distinction among them, but we must acknowledge what Allah is saying.Message is important but the careful choice of messangers shows us that Messenger is as equal important. Without appropriate messenger message just floats in the air.
-
Whatever ranking there is would naturally only be for the purpose of showing us something, some example or lesson or insight. It would have nothing to do with the actual messengers, as they are not important in themselves... it would only be some lesson about them that would be important or beneficial for us to learn. So the focus should not be on the fact that they are differently ranked, if at all... but instead it should be on WHY they are ranked the way they are. There must be some information or lesson to be extracted from the tales about the messengers, otherwise there is absolutely no use mentioning anything about them. We don't worship messengers, so in that sense we make no difference between them... but instead we LEARN from their examples/situation.
And yes, any true message must agree with any other true message, so therefor they would be basically the same, with the same point, but perhaps from different angles. Anything else is not possible. Truth is truth.Peace ya all
Salaam Zulf,
bravo I agree with you totally.
Rasool is always in relation to message and Nabi is always in relation to information, it has noting to do with them personally but with the message and information we get from them is important.
May Allah bless you.

Offcourse we are told not to make distinction among them, but we must acknowledge what Allah is saying.
384 - Say We believe in Allah and what has been revealed to us, and what was revealed to Ibrahim and Ismail and Ishaq and Yaqoub and the tribes, and what was given to Musa and Isa and to the prophets from their Lord; we do not make any distinction between any of them, and to Him do we submit.
From this verse we can see the forbidden distinction between prohets/messengers is nothing to do with their rank. A Christian will say "I believe in Jesus but Muhammad is a false prophet" and similarly a Jew will believe in Moses but disbelieve in Jesus & Muhammad. This is where the distinction is forbidden. It is the equivalent of saying "when a newer messenger comes with the truth, do not exclude him and yield to God as you did for the last messenger". Making a distinction between these makes them a sect. The 'people of the book' are still a group of muslims at the end of the day.

Shalom aleikhem,
This reminds me of a verse from the Bible
"?Why do you call me good?? Jesus answered. ?No one is good?except God alone."
I can be wrong, but the way I always understood it was that we are all mere mortals who can rise/fall. It would be a pointless exercise to label any such mortal "great" and idolize. I see such figures as examples presented in the guidance for us. Abraham never went through what I go through, I never went through what Abraham went through. It is only in principle that we relate to each other. Abraham for me is a symbol of refusal to submit to any authority besides God, if then it makes him Great....probably all of us can be Great too.
Peace

100% wrong and misguiding. Rasool and Nabi is the most important factor in this whole system.
Why first batch of people 1400 years and so in Arabia accepted the message.
What Inspired them?May Allah keep us aware from those who try to misguide.

You have quoted from Bible
"?Why do you call me good?? Jesus answered. ?No one is good?except God alone."but have failed to read the following verse of bible, similarly to those praising your statement.
Genesis 1818
"For Abraham will certainly become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth will be blessed through him.and this
Genesis 122
"I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessingand many others.
No doubt Abraham is symbol but as an indiviual his struggle, his sacrifices, his obedience his patience got him this high status in eyes of Allah. Comparing him with ordinary persons is just a......

RED to quote a believing man "If he is a liar, then his lie will be upon him".
I hope no one here is trying to misguide people, but only share their point of view.
You can correct him with some verses from the Quran if you believe he is wrong, that's much better then accusing a brother in deen of misguiding others.BLUE &

Peace,
Abraham was great because he was the friend of GOD.
Now you may ask, how come, and how does one gain the friendship of GOD?
Tough!!
By letting nothing betweem the Sun and te core of the earth.
Now, what is an idol?
Anything believed that has limits.
Let's begin with these letters you're reading.
Any word is a potential idol. That's why people get upset when you attack their words.
As long as the language is the prison of the self, the words are the partners of God.
Hence, most cannot believe except while setting up partners.
Now Abraham was of the kind that could do stuff beyond what idolaters could comprehend, and anyone who gets free from what eyes see, can do just that.
To serve God, is to allow the Presence of GOD alone in the body.
And idols, prevent the Presence of GOD.
That's why most get stuck in the level of language, they say what they don't do, and are slaves of the own opinions.
Once free, you see.
Abraham was great because he knew how to allow the greatness of Existence live.
Praise be to what makes the human see.
Peace,
R.Please, if you can, why was he so great? Or is it that, that is how he has been depicted to us!
The one who built the Kaaba? did he?
the one who broke the idols? surely we can all do that now aswell!or is there something else .
Thanks All.

How about Musa?
2040
2040 when your sister went and said, 'Shall I direct you to someone who will be responsible for him?' So We restored you to your mother that she might be content and not grieve. And you killed someone, but We saved you from retaliation and tried you with a trial. And you remained years among the people of Madyan. Then you came at the decreed time, O Musa.2041
2041 And I have chosen you for MyselfMay Allah increase us in knowledge and guide us to His true path pr

BenderIt depends some may get the answer in first post as of Why Praise be to Muhammad Rasool Allah? and some may keep on repeating the same question till end of 56 pages.
You have to bother a little by translating the Ayat.
