    Assalaamu Alaykum Everyone

I know this has probably been asked before, but is there a Difference between a Prophet and a Messenger? As far as I know, the Holy Quran says that Prophet Muhammad (Peace be Upon him) was the last Prophet. Does this imply that he was the last Messenger of Allah Almighty as well?

      Salaam Seeker of Truth

I will give you my opinion
First i think that prophet is not a good traduction for Nabi. Prophet is too related to someone who make prophecies, that is reading in future. That's not what nabi means.

Now, (rassool) Messenger points toward a message. A messenger is somebody who speaks with words of his sender.
Nabi comes from the words nabaa wich means information. Nabi is thus somebody who is informed by God but who speaks with his own words.
Nabi is a kind of "journalist" and 'Charit al anbaa" means media news in arabic.

By extrapolation, Messenger could be applied to whom are charged to accomply a specified task and nothing else (like messengers to people of Lot)

The bismillah in the beginning of each sourate (in name of God the rahman and rahim) enlight the messenger character of the rassool.

Now you can notice that nowhere in the Quran, it is asked to follow the nabi. This order is stricly reserved to the Rassool.
Sometimes, in the quran, the nabi is even sermonned.

Many times on Quran, the role of messenger is mentionned as only "to transmit message"'.
The root of word nabi is used many times in Quran in the meaning of inform.

Muhammad is last Nabi (someone informed directly by God).
It is improbable that someone who will not be informed by god will have to transmit a message from GOD or to do a specific task in the name of GOD. But it is not impossible mainly if we notice that a messenger can be not a human.

I think however thay you will have to make your own opinion since the people in this forum don't share the same opinion.

      Peace

        Peace all.

It does not matter about the definition of messenger or prophet. In this case it is Easy very to answer the question

Muhammad was not the father of any man among you. He was a messenger of God and the final prophet. God is fully aware of all things]

It clearly says he was a messenger and not the " last messenger"

It also clearly says he was the " last prophet".

So the answer is clear He was not the last messenger.

        Peace.

          Salaam good logic

we have to be more precise

if Human Rassool set is included in Human Nabi set then 3340 yields to Muhammad is Last Human Messenger.
Note that first part of 3340 points towards the human character of Muhammad.

According to history of Lot, Not Humans Messengers can be sended by God (to punish people) .

Now, by logic, it remains a clear question
Can a human rassool be not a Nabi ?
          My opinion is NO

          However this verse
1715 Whoever is guided is guided for himself, and whoever is misguided is for his own loss. And no person shall carry the burdens of another, and We were not to punish until We send a messenger (rassool).

Could mean that there would be other messengers. Will they be humans ?
Notice that Muhammad can be the messenger of verse 1715. His message is now in each library in the world and quite nobody in the world can say "i never heard that a book called quran exists".

          Peace

            Peace noshirk.

GOD chooses His words carefully. He mentioned both " MESSENGER" and " PROPHET" in , however He uses the word " LAST" with "PROPHET" only.

Why did God not say " Last messenger" ?. The reason is there will be messengers after Muhammed but no prophets. Muhammed was the last prophet.

            Peace.

What is a human Rassool that is not a Nabi ? What would be his mission ?

To confirm an existing scripture and remind. Usually when the message is distorted/changed or to give the same message to extented/future generation after a time lapse?

                Peace.

That word denotes LAST, but last prophet. You will not find " Last messenger" in Qoran.

I only enquired about a Particle and a Word. No conclusions.
What this Noun is? Indefinite or definite, singular or plural, passive or active participle, masculine or feminine; why is it in accusative case. What relationship it has with the following plural noun in genitive state?

                            Salamun Alaik,

Surprised by post 2 giving verdicts, I thought to put a general question, without referring to any post whether attention is paid to individual words.

The last post was again to know whether attention is paid to first know the Arabic word.

That is pointed out in post 12. There is translation, and then based on it a verdict. Therefore, suggested to atleast first investigate about the word, before we arrive at conclusions and judgments.

No, I am suggesting a rational course for arriving at judgments. One can have any perception he likes to develop in his mind. But when judgments are related to a foreign text, the minimum requirement is that the person knows the word.

                                      Salaam

Aaron was only Nabi. It looks like if God made Aaron prophet to respond to a demand of Moses.
1953 And We granted him from Our mercy his brother Aaron as a prophet.
2029 "And allow for me an advisor from my family."
                                      2030 "Aaron, my brother."
2535 And We gave Moses the Book and We made his brother Aaron a minister with him.

I think that Aaron case is very helpful to respond to the Nabi/Rassol distinction.
It is the nabi who confirm what rassool says. The Messenger bring a Message from GOD and the Nabi confirms by his own words.

The question is again, what will a human rassool do if Muhammad was not the last human Rassol ?

                                          Peace Mazhar.

It is simple Muhammed was the last prophet but not the last messenger.

                                          You are making it complicated.

                                          Peace.

I am not sure about the last of anything, the Qur'an says khatam an-nibiyin, seal of prophets. It depends what we understand by khatam. A meaning that for me seems unquestionable is that whatever revelation or message a prophet or messenger may bring, the Qur'an is the one that gives or denies its authenticity, that is, that puts the seal on it of being genuine.

                                          Salaam
