What means exactly the word Rabb ?
This word is used many times (more the 800) and traduced by different words. This is a selection
276 And when they come across those who believe, they say "We believe!" And when they are alone with each other they say "Why do you inform them of what God has said to us? Then they would use it in argument against us at your (RABB ???). Do you not comprehe
2139 Say "Do you debate with us regarding God? He is our Lord (RABB ???) and your Lord (RABB ???), and we have our works and you have your works, and to Him we are believers."
364 Say "O people of the Book, let us come to a common understanding between us and between you; that we serve none except God, and that we do not set up anything with Him, and that none of us takes each other as patrons (RABB ???) besides God." If they turn away,
380 Nor does He order you that you take the angels and the prophets as patrons(RABB ???). Would He order you to rejection after you have submitted?
931 They have taken their Priests and Monks to be patrons(RABB ???) besides God, and the Messiah, son of Mary, while they were only commanded to serve One god, there is no god except He, be He glorified against what they set up.
1239 "O my fellow inmates, are various lords (ARBAB ???) better , or God, the One, the Supreme?"
4130 Those who have said ?Our Lord(RABB ???) is God,? then they did right, the angels will come down upon them ?You shall not fear, nor shall you grieve. Rejoice in the good news of the Paradise that you have been promised.?
4174 O people, proof has come to you from your Lord (RABB ???), and We have sent down to you a guiding light.
6164 Say "Shall I seek other than God as a Lord (RABB ???) when He is the Lord (RABB ??? ???) of everything?" And every soul earns what is for it, and none will carry the burden of another. Then to your Lord is your return and He will inform you of what you disputed in.
7924 Firaoun said ?I am your lord (RABB ??? ???), the most high.?379 It is not for any human being that God would give him the Book and the authority and the prophethood, then he would say to the people "Be servants (rabbaniyyeena ???) to me rather than God!" Rather "Be Devotees for what you have been taught of the Book, and of what you have studied."
Really, i am not satisfied with my own understanding.
in arabic, Rabb can have many understandings. For example owner.
i don't know if we can relates with the verb rabba (educates, make somthing grow like plants and animals)Really i am confused.
GOD is Rabb of every thing but not of unbelievers ?
Help is neededPeace

Just wanted to share my non-scholarly idea.
If it, like you say, comes from the word 'rabba' with the meaning of 'make something grow', then I think it is a very logical and wonderful thing.
I see it like Allah is the cause of our growing. By aligning with Allah's system, we will grow in all aspects. Allah is the nurturing source of our growth and life. We should not seek other sources for life and grow, because only Allah is capable of being a true and full Rabb with all that entails, including giving life and causing growth. Growth naturally here means all imaginable, positive development... mental, intellectual, spiritual, social, physical, emotional, you-name-it.

@zulf
I agree
The educator meaning is also interesting. Take God as only Rabb would mean Take only God as teacher.
When Firaoun said, i am your Highiest RAbb, that perhaps would mean that he was a great priest and he didn't want another teachings than his teachings (rememeber that his wife was a believer and he had another believer as minister). However not sure. Need help of a linguist to see if we can relates Rabb to Rabba in the meaning of tarbiya (education, making thing grow)
Really don't nowSalaam

I have always understood rabb as sustainer, that without a single instant which everything would cease to exist. The sense of lord has always been secondary. May be because the first time a swa an explanation of the word that was the one I got. Fo0r me it makes sense. The meaning of education, growing, would be part of it.
It is a name I am very fond of too.

Salaam brother noshirk,
Thanks you.
I don't have much study on this subject. But I currently understand that Rabb means growth as you said. And I also understand that Riba and Rabb are from the same root and have same meaning.
May Allah increase us in knowledge and guide us to His true path pr

In arabic, minister of Tarbiya is Minister of Education. Mourabbi is educator. Parents Yourabbouna their Children.
Please note that, Rabb Ol Bayt, could also mean the Teacher of the Bayt.Do you think that GOD is Rabb of believers could means That GOD is teacher of Belivers while unbelievers and associators are who are taking others teachers.
Linguisitically, is it possible ?
we would be his pupils, collaborating between us, while he is the only teacher in wich we can put faith.I can't forget that ALLAHOU could also mean "No other than him".

It's cool to notice that the concepts of 'make to grow' and 'educate' is in essence one and the same.
And generally I think Arabic words generally cannot be directly translated into English 11 equivalents. In such translations, lots of meaning is often lost.

You are welcome brother.
I personally don't take any help or reference from outside to understand alQuraan. I believe that alQuraan used words in its own way. Like for example RAbb is used for growing of children and RIbaa refers to money. Both means growth but the usage or "A" and "I" shows us the difference what is it referring to.
This is how I understand.

For being teacher, I always remember 551-2
551
551 AlRahmaan552
552 Has taught alQuraanI very strongly believe that no one else can do this job . Taught is used because whatever alQuraan He taught till date is taught by AlRahmaan.

Salaam Zulf,
True, it is not possible to translate every word of alQuraan into English. In fact many many words of alQuraan does not have a literal meaning, but it has a concept. Once we understand that, it will be very easy to use that word in understanding other aayaats.

Salaam brother
I mentionned verses in the opening post
for example
380 Nor does He order you that you take the angels and the prophets as (Arbab). Would He order you to rejection after you have submitted?here teacher has better meaning than make you grow.
in fact, God is rabb of all people of the book.
Taking other rabb than god is a bad thing (associtation)
I found no verse, (i didnt see all the 800), that mention that God is rabb of unbelivers. So the growth can't be taken in the sense of physical growthSo, the sense "make grow", is to be taken in the spiritual sense, wich is spiritual growth, wich is education.

Salaam brother,
Thank you for that aayat. Yes, it seems that growth does not suite in 380, as I said, I have no study on this subject.
BTW, I found this.
2049
2049 said, "So who is the Lord of you two, O Moses?"2050
2050 He said, "Our Lord is He who gave each thing its form and then guided."2051
2051 said, "Then what is the case of the former generations?"2052
2052 said, "The knowledge thereof is with my Lord in a record. My Lord neither errs nor forgets."2053
2053 who has made for you the earth as a bed and inserted therein for you roadways and sent down from the sky, rain and produced thereby categories of various plants. This may help to understand what Rabb means! hmm
