But think about a man (a Sunni) who is abstaining from fornication just to enjoy the voluptuous virgins of the Jannah, who avoids taking tasty food just to make Lord happy with the hidden motive of enjoying the tasty apples (sorry my imagination but he will think this) of the Jannah, who avoids even a drop of alcohol just to enjoy the sweet sharab of the Jannah................................................the list is endlesssssssssssssssssssss.............................?????.......I am still confused confused confused confused

O YOU who have attained to faith! Be ever steadfast in upholding equity, bearing witness to the truth for the sake of God, even though it be against your own selves or your parents and kinsfolk. Whether the person concerned be rich or poor, God's claim takes precedence over either of them. Do not, then, follow your own desires, lest you swerve from justice for if you distort , behold, God is indeed aware of all that you do! (4135)
Therefore, it is quite clear that evil desires are a part of human nature, but the challenge is if people can control them.

I think there is quite some trith in what Harun writes. I think the solution is in two directions
one is that in fact the descriptions of jannah must be allegorical (as mentioned in 37). If you look at the descriptions, it is mainly what an arab (or someone else in the desert areas) would be happy about; someone in the colder areas would prefer everlasting warmth and light. But Jannah should be for all of us - as long as we deserve it.
On the other hand, not all pleasure is forbidden but only that which harms others or/and ourselves (if it harms others, it also harms oursleves). Alcohol is not forbidden because it is pleasant but because it gets you drunk and causes accidents, rude behavior, criminal acts. The same for other things forbidden is not pleasure, but excess that makes us forget about others, about our creator and about our duties.Among the signs mentioned in the Qur'an are many things beneficial for us, like all the different fruits (699, 134, 2053 or in general 4513). Why should they have been created if we should not take benefit of them. We should enjoy them but not forget to be thankful to our creator for all of that.

The problem with the traditional interpretation is that "taking descriptions of Heaven and Hell at face value seems to tempt man to do good from the "Joy of Heavenly Pleasures" instead of "Love of the Lord", and avoid evil because of the "Fear of the Fire" and not because of the "Love of the Lord"..........
Hope people understand what I want to ask...and come to the real point of discussion...

Nothing shall abrogate His words, and you shall not find any other source beside it.

However, AQ clearly contains examples and allegory (metaphor and simile) in some of the non-core Ayat. 1335 The example of the Paradise which the righteous are promised, is that rivers flow beneath it, and its provisions are continuous as is its shade. Such is the abode of those who were righteous, while the abode of the rejecters is the Fire.

I believe we should do good and avoid evil even if heaven and hell do not exist. I want to be close to my Lord, that is it, where ever God is that is where I want to be. I would go into the fires of hell if that was where God was.
I do think some take the descriptions for heaven and hell in a wrong manner. The sex orgies and women... ridiculous! I am a woman so heaven (as a sunni) was not even a good place for me, seeing my beloved husband with all the virgins.... nope made me cry. I had two options.. bad(heaven) and worse(hell)....lol Then I came here and researched more. I am not a wiz like some of the posters here.. Masha Allah, they are so blessed and help me strive to study. Most of the crazy ideas are verses filtered through hadith. I have a Quran that says the men will have "Pleasure Mates". I was like wow... what is this the "Playboy Mansion"?? It is a sick heart that views heaven as such. I don't think that heaven changes into the kingdom of "haram" We will be purer. Do things like gluttony, lust and lewdness make sense in a place called heaven? This might as well be a place of very low morality. I personally think we will be at such an elevated state we will not care for the human desires, we will remember, but it will not be as important.
Also, God knows your intention. God knows if it was for the sake of your Lord or a way to get to your own desires. If your intention is evil, do you think you out smarted the all knowing God??
What I can share are things that helped me
Heaven seems to be discussed as a place where all our basic needs are met with above and beyond quality and beauty. Food, water, shelter and clothing. No worries or fears.

Jannah is more than just avoiding the desires, you need to live all aspects or your life in a certain manner, as best you can. Those with false intentions, would have a hard time keeping up that facade.
