Im taking this time now to read the quran albeit in Its translated version. But Im avoiding the footnotes and anything written in brackets, as these are added by man and not what god says.
Im still praying but in my own way, multiple times a day but until i have finished the quran, and understood or researched myself what it says, Im not going to just pray the traditionalist way or do things simply because Thats what other Muslims do.
Insha Allah, my this site will be of great help in my journey.

welcome Good to have you here, sister!
I would add here that its also important to note that the translations are interpretations of the Arabic text - some things are straightforward like La ilaha illAllah, patience and resilience - sabr which is mentioned a lot in the Quran. Some verses though don't include brackets but are highly questionable like the "wife beating" verse. This translation does not work with the rest of the Quran's message on how marriage partners should behave towards each other and even how ex-partners need to treat each other in divorce. Cross-referencing with other parts of the Quran will help. As you read more, you could also check a transliteration. Many words and phrases are repeated in the Quran in the Arabic. So you can sometimes cross reference with other verses to clarify the meaning of a particular phrase in another verse. You may already be aware of this, but if not, insh'Allah this helps!
Salaam.

Many European countries including England are getting islamised(political islam) at an alarming rate. The sad thing is that many mosques use the Quran as a bait to attract non-muslims and after they get converted, they are only taught about the hadith and "sunnah" of the prophet.
I am glad to hear your story ).May Allah guide us all to the straight path
What do you mean about England being islamised by political Islam? Do you mean Sharia?

Yes. Man made sharia. There are many no-go areas for non-muslims all over Europe and Britain even got sharia courts. Google Anjem Choudary and watch his videos on youtube. I'm sure you'll have a good laugh P. These clerics have ridiculous views and unfortunately they form the majority of those who represent Islam in the media. brickwall

Thank you all for the welcome!! I've spoken to my sunni muslim friends of how I feel and sadly, They say I'm kufr for questioning the hadiths and quote passages of the quran saying I must follow them. I always read what it is they quote to see for myself but do not see it saying you must follow the hadiths. Only saying follow the prophet. Which I have. I follow exactly his message as stated in the quran. The same message abraham brought and all the prophets before with NO EXTRA BOOK!!
I just tried exlaing to my seven year old why I don't follow hadiths and she got it straight away. A seven yr old!! Simply by showing her 22. She has been brought up in the west with no influence from mainstream islam so see's the words exactly as they are. How wonderful.

I think we all get that "kafir" thing. Remain as strong as you are.

Are there? o
Are you being sarcastic?
I don't think Anjem Choudary and his ilk are a laughing matter. The things they come out with are abhorrent.
I agree. Most of the things they say are repulsive. Should have been more specific over there. I'm talking about the pseudo science in some of their videos e.g. latest research shows that licking your fingers(which is a sunnah) stops cancer. ;D
They are a chillul hashem. I had to google that one P

I heard the same.
456 These are the revelations of God, We recite them to you with the truth. So, in which narrative(arabic wordhadith) after God and His revelations do they believe?I just tried exlaing to my seven year old why I don't follow hadiths and she got it straight away

Most people lack objectivity.

Is it in the quran or sunnah to sleep in a certain position?
Anything that sounds like nonesense is from the sunnah-from personal experience, anyway. This is what led me to reject all this Bukhari business a few years ago.
Are you being sarcastic?
No, dear. Which are the "no-go areas for non-Muslims in Europe"? I live in England, so I'm keen to know.
Licking fingers stops cancer? eat I think I've heard that one, you know. yes Ya Allah! rotfl brickwall
I love this "chillul hashem". I became quite interested in learning Hebrew, and to me a lot of these Sunnah-based practices are "chillul hashem". Perfect description, I think!

http//www.liveleak.com/view?i=b99_1311688563 .I also remember watching a video that an Imam from a Southall mosque told Tony Blair to "get lost" as he is in a "muslim area". Can't find the link though.

According to Dr. Bilal Philips, just as a snake's body contains the antidote for the poison, one wing of a fly contains a disease and the other one contains its cure. So if a fly drops in your drink. Dip it in and drink it.

Come on, you don't seriously believe everything you read.
If Southall is a "Muslim area", then what are the dudes with the paghs and the karas doing there......
I don't believe there is any such thing as a "no go" area for "non-Muslims" in England. I live in a majority "Muslim" area.

459A friend of mine who is sunni sent me lots to read to prove we should follow hadiths. The rest I drop kicked out of the park, but these are troubling me as they do appear to say follow and obey muhammads sunnah/ways
Also, what does al hikmah means and does anyone know the actual meaning of the word sunnah?
Oooh sorry, one more....I read earlier that it states in the quran not to follow hadiths....anyone know where exactly it says this??

I don't but I saw a clip of his speech if you're talking about the imam. As far as racism and discrimination by muslims is concerned I've seen it with my own eyes. Many mosques teach hate esp. against the jews. I know that the media tends to exaggerate everything but some people do act very aggressively. Good question btw but you should ask that imam .
Racism is everywhere and you will find non-muslims doing the same with muslims. Many people do see them as no-go areas but I guess it all depends on how cautious you are. -

I have seen, heard and challenged these nut jobs myself. They exist, but they don't account for all views. Nor does some twit telling someone that they are not welcome in an area, make that area a "no go" area. Apparently, where I live is a "no go" area for "non Muslims" too, but I can quite categorically tell you that it isn't!

It might be better to start a separate thread for these questions.

I would also advise start a new thread for some of these topics, you may also get a few more responses that way. I think on the hadith issue Renegade gave an example and included the word from the transliteration. You'll have to look at the transliteration and the translation because they have chosen to translate the word hadith to mean different things - in one verse in Surah Luqman they translated to mean music and idle tales 316. There is an article that helps, although I may not use the word Muhammadean as used in the article I linked to below.
http//submission.org/Why_word_Hadith_left_in_Arabic.html There are some more examples that haven't been used in that article. You can also use an online translation with the transliteration on the page which can help.

Racism is everywhere and you will find non-muslims doing the same with muslims. Many people do see them as no-go areas but I guess it all depends on how cautious you are.I don't think they are no go areas. They may be less likely to move there because they think there are fewer people like themselves, although I don't think that would be true. The same could go for areas that are all white - some Asian people or other ethnicities would be less likely to go there, does that mean they are no go areas? The no go areas might be more places with lots of "anti social" as they call it behaviour though a stronger word may be necessary
I don't think many mosques teach anti-semitism, most mosques are open to the public aren't they? There are all sort of people who can just go in and visit. If they hear something quite anti-semitic, that's not going to help. There can be anti-semitism especially when people don't distinguish between Zionist and Jews, but on the other hand, Muslims can be incredibly happy when they hear of Jews who speak out against Israel etc.
