Not to be forgotten that women also have ma malakat ayman...

Ma is a pronoun for things = what

    What your right hands hold.

    Salaam,

If you are saying "Ma" cannot refer to a person, then how can one get marry to things? 425.
BTW, please take a look at this thread.

Lets get off the sunni boat

if we can only have a sexual relationship with our wives and or malakat aymanokum then surely with our understanding of the Quran

Wives are malakat aymanokum = That to which you have a right over by way of their oath of marriage.

        i think (see M Asad's translation)

        peace

So how many concubines can a man have? So he can 'do' all them?
So women can have their concubines too because there are also MMA that belong to women? -\

          salaam
          theorem
whenever there is a feminin concubine, there is masculine concubin.

you can traduce by girlfriend/boyfriend with sexual friendship if you want.

          for the number. Only one.
there was only one exception, Muhammad. Allah allowed him to marry all the concubines he had before he received revelation in the "night of decree". After that, it was forbidden to him to take other spouses or to exchange one by another.
Verses to read carefully 33-50 to 33-52.

of course, you have to throw away the tale about the marriage with a woman called khadija.
Do you know , that in that "cendrilla" tale, where a princess married with the orphan Muhammed, father of the princess refused the marriage. To convince him, the tale says that the princes convinced his father by making him drunk ?
Can you accept this tale ?

          Peace

Ma is not a person, that is clear, the persons over something of whom other has domain or authority are called by the thing itself, and the whole is shortened meaning the persons who have that thing over which others yamin malakat. I thought it was obvious, the same as when somebody asks for somebody else's hand in fact is not asking for her hand but for the whole of the person in marriage.

The point is that nobody is being the owner or possessor of anubody else, but merely hold some office concerning that person.

            Salaam

                Peace Godsubmitter.

"Mamalakat Aymanukum" means different things in different verses. For example

It may mean here " What you already have"?

                Or

It may mean here"What is permitted to you"?

As far as I understand it does ot mean the same thing in all the verses.

                Pace to you

                      Peace Brother Noshirk,

I have checked the meaning and definition of concubinage on Wikipedia. I kinda agree with your views on MMA but concubinage is always associated with harems. I prefer the use of "de facto spouses" rather than concubines to translate ma malakat ayman.

                      What say you? ;D

                      Regards,
                      Yuliana

                        Salaam sister

                        no problem
MMA is a status where a women is de facto married with no official status. She is, legally, in an unprotected financial status.

                        Peace

                          Actually the answer is simple.

Ayman or yamiin literally means right, right hand or oath.

                          Why ayman doesn't mean slave??

"And tell the believing females to lower their gaze and keep covered their private parts, and that they should not reveal their beauty except what is apparent, and let them put forth their shawls over
their cleavage. And let them not reveal their beauty except to their husbands, or their fathers, or fathers of their husbands, or their sons, or the sons of their husbands, or their brothers, or the sons of their brothers, or the sons of their sisters, or their women, or those maintained by their oaths, or the male servants (taabi'i/) who are without need."

taabi'i/ literaly means disciple, follower, but it also have alternative meaning like "subject, vassal, dependent, appendant, subservient, tributary".

I mean taab'i can also be mean servant or slave like "abdi".

So if we translate "ayman" as slave, indeed there will be a pleonasm/repetition.

                          Peace.
