Background This verse was sent down to Muhammad when his moslems companios got divided because differences in tafseer.If I intepret the verses withouth knowing the background, I will only play assumptions, like this possibilities

Maybe the word "you" refers to people who came from any religious background, so perhaps this verse said if all people must united into single ummah.
